Is it considered torture when the GOP inflicts suffering on Americans?

The shutdown is a tactic, a diversion from the Mueller investigation.

But nearly 5 weeks into it, millions of Americans are suffering as they are basically collateral damage in the Trump/McConnell GOP shutdown.

Is this suffering considered torture?

Is the deliberate infliction of physical and psychological pain of millions of Americans torture?

Torture:
NOUN
the action or practice of inflicting severe pain on someone as a punishment or to force them to do or say something, or for the pleasure of the person inflicting the pain.

The ugly facts about the MAGA hat kids

From the article:

A day after the video made national news, the story took several more turns after a concerted campaign to try to shield the youth from blame.
But the mainstream media’s coverage of the story failed to report the reason that a crowd of Indigenous people was on the National Mall in the first place — namely, that Friday was the one of the first national marches of Indigenous people since the 1970s....

By Saturday, the mainstream media picked up the story and were reporting on it as a disturbing example of a mob of young kids with the confidence to taunt Indigenous people. So how and why has the story shifted since then?

FIRST, Sandmann’s parents hired a well-connected public-relations firm in Louisville, which released a statement by Sandmann shifting blame for the confrontation to a small crowd of Black Israelites who were also near the Lincoln Memorial. This led the media to revise the narrative, using other video footage.

The fact is, Trump is the President in large part because racists voted for him.

How long before Nathan Phillips is called the aggressor, and the boys become the victims?

After all, the boys are white, and Mr. Phillips is obviously First Peoples.

There is so much associated evidence, the clip from the same march of the boys verbally haarassign a girl, the clips showing the Covington students in black face taunting black athletes, the idiotic MAGA hats that feature so prominently these days whe proud Trump-loving racists express their racism openly.

Now, we have the corporate media that is determined to rewrite reality a few days after it happened.

Orwell described this process in 1984, where yesterday's reality changes to become today's reality at the convenience of the fascists.

'More merciful than Yahweh': Jack Miles on God in the Quran

From the article:

What you found is that Allah is more merciful, consistently so, than in the Bible. Is that accurate?

Yes, it is. A friend asked me, what was the biggest surprise you discovered in writing the book? I said, Allah is more merciful than Yahweh.

MLK Day 2019- A Reminder of Islamic Teachings on Racism and Diversity

From the article:

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white – except by piety and good action- Hadith of Prophet Muhammad

'Medicare for All and Equal Rights Aren't Trends': Ocasio-Cortez Fires Back After Aaron Sorkin Lectures Young Progressives

From the article:

"News flash: Medicare for All and equal rights aren't trends," the New York congresswoman wrote, referring specifically to Sorkin's flippant dismissal of the push for equal rights for transgender Americans as a "Republican talking point they're trying to distract you with."....

Sorkin's unsolicited advice to young congressional Democrats—who, in just a short period of time, have helped push bold solutions like a Green New Deal and a 70 percent tax rate into mainstream political discussion—was widely panned by progressives, who characterized the screenwriter's comments as a sad attempt to shoot down the party's surging left-wing energy.

The agenda must include striking back at these conservative talking points, not ignoring them.

And the current crop of Congressmembers, led by Speaker Pelosi, is doing so.

To Fulfill MLK's 'Revolutionary' Vision, Sanders Says Corrupt, Divisive, and 'Racist' Trump Must Be Defeated

from the article:

In a speech honoring the "revolutionary spirit" of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on what would have been his 90th birthday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Monday condemned both the individual racism of President Donald Trump and the systemic racism of the American criminal justice system—while emphasizing the urgency of forging ahead with King's radical egalitarian vision.

In Arizona, Possible Prison Time for Leaving Food andwater for migrants.

From the article:

Four women were found guilty of misdemeanors and are facing possible prison time for leaving jugs of water and canned food in the Arizona desert for migrants braving the scorching triple-digit temperatures during the summer of 2017.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Bernardo Velasco on Friday convicted Natalie Hoffman, Oona Holcomb, Madeline Huse, and Zaachila Orozco—all volunteers with the organization No More Deaths—for entering the Cabeza Prieta refuge without a permit and leaving the items, which "erode the national decision to maintain the refuge in its pristine nature."

In the age of Trump, where open racism is applauded by the GOP, are we really surprised?
January 21, 2019

Trump has no intention of re-opening the Government.

At least anytime soon. My view is that he sees this as a successful diversion and delay of the Mueller investigation.

We all know that the modern GOP (and what a contradiction that phrase is!!) hates the idea of a Government that regulates the rich in any way.

The GOP wants the protection of the US military because the business interests of the 1% demand it, but the GOP has no use for social service programs.

The GOP is the party of the rich.
