These idiots in the Alaska legislature think they are clever, but this is an overt threat to the president, and they should be locked up for his visit to Alaska.
We already have enough problems with violence, enough moronic racists threatening President Obama, the last think we need is supposedly intelligent people in power actually promoting the idea.
With this upcoming visit, I am irate that they even suggested this.
And the most absurd thing, this legislature rewrote our tax laws so that the state is now paying out $700 million to oil companies in tax credits instead of making money on our oil with our huge deficit that has them cutting schools, police etc If ANWR were opened, the state would lose $9 Billion more in tax credits.

Getting to Know Jane Sanders "when I heard him speak, well, that was it"
At that time the mayor's race was happening here in Burlington that Bernie was in. I went with the Neighborhood Organization folks to a meeting with the then Mayor and they asked questions. I didn't feel we were getting direct answers, so I started asking questions. They said, "You sound like Bernie Sanders now!" I sat down and said, "Who's Bernie Sanders?" They said, "He's running for mayor." I said, "Let's organize a debate."
So we did. He came, and everyone was swarming around him and the other candidates, because they weren't supportive of the mayor, so, being the good Catholic girl, of course I was very nice to the mayor and barely even said hell-o to Bernie. But when I heard him speak, well, that was it. The police department I was working with supported him after that, and he won 10 days later. We met at the victory party, and that was the beginning of forever.

Gov. Walker on President Obama's 3 Day Visit to Alaska: 'We’ll have plenty to talk about'
On Friday night, Walker’s office announced he’ll accompany President Barak Obama in Air Force One as it travels from Washington, D.C., to Alaska on Monday.
Whether on that flight or in the days to follow, Walker said he’s confident he’ll get a chance to talk to the president one-on-one. In an interview Saturday, we asked Gov. Walker what was high on his list of things to discuss and for his thoughts on Obama’s visit, which is expected to include stops in Anchorage, Seward, Dillingham and Kotzebue.

A bunch of whistleblowers that were hounded, surveilled and prosecuted/persecuted by the US government are banding together to sue all the big names in domestic surveillance.
The claims arise from the government's treatment of these whistleblowers after they started making noise about the NSA's surveillance programs. More specifically, the lawsuit points to the short-lived internet surveillance program THINTHREAD, which was ignored and abandoned in favor of something more expensive, but less protective of Americans' communications.
$4 billion went into another program called TRAILBLAZER (THINTHREAD's internal development cost, by contrast, was only $4 MILLION), along with five years of development. In the end, TRAILBLAZER never worked properly and was abandoned by the NSA in 2006.
This wasteful "funneling" of funds to preferred government contractors was reported to the Dept. of Defense by four of the whistleblowers, under the heading of waste, fraud and misuse of taxpayers' money. The DoD wasn't happy. It issued a scathing internal report. But the NSA wasn't interested in having its faults pointed out. It sent the DOJ after the whistleblowers, using an unrelated leak of information about the NSA's expansive domestic surveillance programs to the New York Times as the impetus for a series of raids.

Alaska Legislature will sue Gov. Walker to block Medicaid expansion

The Alaska Legislature on Tuesday said it will sue Gov. Bill Walker to block his move last month to expand the public Medicaid health care program without lawmakers’ approval.
Following a private discussion Tuesday morning, a Republican-controlled House-Senate committee voted 10-1 to spend up to $450,000 on two law firms to represent the Legislature in a suit against the governor.
The governor, a Republican-turned-independent, promised to expand Medicaid during his campaign last year, which saw him endorsed by the state Democratic Party.
Walker’s administration says the expansion would make some 40,000 low-income residents newly eligible for Medicaid and actually reduce Alaska’s budget by replacing state money with federal funding.

Is there anyone in the Philidelphia area that can help a DUer find housing for her and large dog?
I started another thread with this idea but it turned into mostly a sad collection of insults and judgement.
It appears TTW and yoshi have some $$,(and many Duers would be willing to help pay more to help with 1st,last and deposit)
but it is extremely difficult to find housing for her and her dog.
I was thinking, with so many thousands?? of DUers...someone might know someone who needs a renter, has a mother in law apt to rent??
Sometimes all it takes is connections, or a lucky break....to get someone back on track.
Could DUers with compassion and suggestions please offer help?
