I use a VPN app, ZenMate, and the main reason is the nearby church's wifi signal which I access by specific permission. I'm aware it's available to anyone, so I keep file sharing turned off. I don't host anything. I wouldn't be piggybacking if I could afford my own internet connection. Well, technically I could afford it but then I'd have to give up more important stuff like political/social causes and caring for my 2 beloved dogs, a terrier and a hound. I don't waste $ on tobacco or other drugs etc. Since I attend that church, I don't feel bad about asking to piggyback their wifi signal.

I have my browser set to reject 3rd party cookies, so FB says their ballyhoo'd opt out service won't work unless I ALLOW 3rd party cookies - PLUS any opt-out preference will be invalidated if I empty browser cookies on shutdown, meaning I'd have to constantly re-up on the opt-out page! So they THINK they've got us coming and going. AdBlockPlus doesn't seem to have any effect on FB's info gathering but ZenMate is a free independent browser security software which provides a separate server, portal, vpn, etc. Even that's not entirely enough. So I use Malwarebytes AntiMalware (free or paid) for real-time malware protection; it also quarantines and eliminates the PUPs which continue to accumulate. My next plan is to see whether the DuckDuckGo browser works with ZenMate so I can ditch Chrome altogether. Google's the one slapping those PUPs and MUPs on my system; I'll find a way around them yet.

Any further thoughts, please?

I've read in forums that Google only tracks anonymously but how can we know that for sure? I'm not doing anything that would embarrass a great granny; I just don't like big business' nose in MY business.
