Your quote re Rove:

"You are a treasonous piece of shit who, along with others, should be on trial at The Hague for war crimes"

Couldn't have said it better myself, though the jealous part of me wishes I had. Thanks! Be sure to include all the GOP leadership in your thoughts on that one.

Thanks - I know we're in for a wild ride

Molly Maguire, the mini beagle/pom mix, was just about a year old and calmed down enough that I was about to let her out of the big baby bed and into my bed with me. But then came Brigid, so that plan has to wait until she calms down. At least enough to stop trying to cram her muzzle down my throat like a baby bird feeding. She nearly starved to death the first 3 months of her life, though, and went through no telling what other kind of hell, so I try to understand her emotional needs as much as I can.

I seriously doubt Brigid was housetrained on arrival, but Molly took her under her 'wing' and there've been no accidents so far. I love Brigid with all my heart, but must admit that being locked up with her or any JRT in a small apartment would be my worst nightmare. A lot of the reason we're doing so well is that she can run and play outdoors most of the time. Always in at night from 10:30 to 6, of course. But during the worst of winter, I could still let her out 15 minutes every 2 hours, and there wasn't much winter left when she came. By next November she will have quite a few more months growth on her, and she learns the law here pretty fast. She will probably have to be at least 2 years old though before I give her complete and unsupervised free rein indoors.

At least she doesn't scream!

So true.

Are you familiar with Dylan's homage to Lenny Bruce? Exquisite.

I know Bill can be a pill.

But there's a lot of honey in my bank for people who perform the much needed public service of stomping everything GOP. If he ranges a little too far afield at times, maybe I'm too much like an adoring, indulgent mother. I feel the same about David Letterman. He can hardly do anything unforgivable in my eyes because he hammered on Romney w/o an ounce of mercy. Every night like clockwork. I'm sure we owe him a general debt of gratitude for his help.

Anyway, Maher's more of a satirist than outright comedian.

Overall, an enemy of my enemy is at least a potential friend to me.

Speaking of new books

Does anyone know if Cheney's wife and daughter ever finished their updated translation of the Bible? The one where they wanted to purge every hint of the social gospel? I know a lot of GOP wingnuts stood ready to pony up for a copy.

Satire is wasted on fundies

But then I suspect you know that already. They read the Onion and think it's either true or a deliberate actual lie. Satire flies right over their little pin heads.

I'm not terribly fond of pictures that portray Jesus as Eurocentric Caucasian

That looks too much like me, and I've never confused my own identity. The historical Jesus, regardless of a person's opinion on the question of divinity, was Middle Eastern Jewish and that's my preference regarding artwork. Admittedly it's hard to find, but has become easier in modern times. When I see any of the Holy Family depicted with blond hair or blue eyes, it feels creepy.

When you try to explain to most fundies that the religion to which they pay occasional lip service is actually Oriental, they'll chase you down the street yelling bloody murder.

You might be on to something there.

Of course the TP's would declare the BP's commies.

I'm prone to spread that ire around w/o regard to political or theological pews

It is just as counterproductive for the left to kick me for having any religion at all as it is for the right to twist it beyond recognition into something truly evil.

Not saying you're necessarily going to do either of those things; I don't know if you're atheist, agnostic, or some other religion entirely. What I do know is that too many people on this website take an outright stormtrooper attitude, wanting to stick God for humanity's failings.

People messed this world up. We won't get anywhere by misplacing blame or failing to take responsibility for our own collective part in the problem. That's just a cop out.

For what it's worth, I do consider most fundies to be at least somewhat mentally ill, and the farther to the right they go, the sicker they are. And I happen to be delighted with the OP.

It's too horribly foreign and alien to them

So they have to demonize it to soothe their bruised egos.

A guy answered one of my letters to the editor in the local paper with one of his own, and it started out with "HYENAS!" in bold print, then went on to elaborate on "LYING HYENAS OF SOCIALISM!" He warned that the biggest lie told by Democrats, who have no spirit of truth in them, is the claim that they're not out to confiscate every gun and bible in the country. He doesn't really seem to consider liberals any kind of human at all. Which of course is a mandatory precursor to declaring a war of extermination. Believe me, the MidWest woods are full of those nutballs.

About IrishAyes

Still an ardent Irish-American Catholic damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat socialist after all these years. (cue Simon music) Army brat and wife for many years, now have been on the loose far longer than I was married. After my two red chows died, I took in a mini-beagle cross that I named Molly Maguire, thinking she might need a good Irish name like my original real one. Later she got a baby sister, a smooth-coat JRT I named Brigid after the greatest of the ancient Celtic goddesses. My great-grandfather and his son fought for Michael Collins and barely made it out of Ireland one step ahead of John Bull. They slipped over to Wales for new identities and then forward to the States for a fresh start. That makes me second generation of illegal but certainly justified immigrants. There are precious few people to whose defense I fly immediately, but the list includes Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama even when I disagree with him - it happens! - and living Irish patriots Gerry Adams and Martin \\\'Mind Your Kneecaps\\\' McGuiness. I pray earnestly for a united and free Ireland rescued from all official British occupation, with every square inch of alleged \\\'ancestral lands\\\' now held immorally and illegally by the invaders returned to the rightful owners. Irish-only rule for Ireland. No foreign masters anymore! I find it passing strange when Brits chide ME about \'interfering\' in Irish politics!
