Clinton: Trump shamed into making donations to veterans groups

Washington (CNN)Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that Donald Trump does not deserve "much credit" for his donations to veterans groups, saying that the presumptive GOP nominee only did so because a reporter had to "shame" him into doing it.
"Look, I'm glad he finally did it, but I don't know that he should get much credit," she told CNN's Jake Tapper on "The Lead." "I think the problem here is the difference between what Donald Trump says and what Donald Trump does."
She added, "It took a reporter to shame him into actually making his contribution," though she didn't specify a particular reporter by name.............

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday her campaign has been in contact with the campaign of rival Bernie Sanders about unifying the Democratic Party.
.................................
In an interview on CNN, Clinton said the contacts are likely to intensify after next weeks California primary.
I will certainly do everything I can to unify the Democratic Party. Our campaigns have been reaching out to one another. We will continue to do that, she said.
She said both she and Sanders are going to do everything we can to prevent Republican candidate Donald Trump from winning the Nov. 8 presidential election.

On Tuesday, June 7, I have decided to cast my vote for Hillary Clinton because I believe this is the only path forward to win the presidency and stop the dangerous candidacy of Donald Trump.
I have closely watched the primaries and am deeply impressed with how well Bernie Sanders has done. He has driven home the message that the top one percent has unfairly captured way too much of Americas wealth, leaving the majority of people far behind. In 1992, I attempted a similar campaign.
For her part, Hillary Clinton has convincingly made the case that she knows how to get things done and has the tenacity and skill to advance the Democratic agenda. Voters have responded by giving her approximately 3 million more votes and hundreds more delegates than Sanders. If Clinton were to win only 10 percent of the remaining delegates wildly improbable she would still exceed the number needed for the nomination. In other words, Clintons lead is insurmountable and Democrats have shown by millions of votes that they want her as their nominee.
But there is more at stake than mere numbers. The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has called climate change a hoax and said he will tear up the Paris Climate Agreement. He has promised to deport millions of immigrants and ominously suggested that other countries may need the nuclear bomb. He has also pledged to pack the Supreme Court with only those who please the extreme right.
The stakes couldnt be higher. Our country faces an existential threat from climate change and the spread of nuclear weapons. A new cold war is on the horizon. This is no time for Democrats to keep fighting each other. The general election has already begun. Hillary Clinton, with her long experience, especially as Secretary of State, has a firm grasp of the issues and will be prepared to lead our country on day one.
Next January, I want to be sure that it is Hillary Clinton who takes the oath of office, not Donald Trump.
With respect,
Jerry Brown

New poll by Stanford scholars shows age divide among California Democrats, GOP unity issues
A new poll of California voters by Stanford Universitys Bill Lane Center and the Hoover Institution shows an age divide in the Democratic Party and GOP voters slow to embrace Donald Trump. There were mixed views on the superdelegate issue and the states open primary system.

With Californias June 7 primary only a week away, a new Hoover Institution Golden State Poll finds Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump with large leads in their respective primaries but cautionary signs ahead, and good news for Democratic U.S. Senate hopefuls Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez.

Hoovers Golden State Poll, administered by the survey research firm YouGov and designed in conjunction with Stanford Universitys Bill Lane Center for the American West, finds Clinton holding a 13-point lead over U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (51 percent to 38 percent).
Trump receives 66 percent in the Republican contest. Why that lofty number is problematic: Mitt Romney, like Trump a nominee-in-waiting, received 79.5 percent of the vote in Californias 2012 GOP presidential primary..............................

A major environmental group, the NRDC Action Fund, will endorse Hillary Clinton on Tuesday in its first-ever political endorsement in a presidential election.
In a statement, the NRDC Action Fund, a political affiliate of the Natural Resources Defense Council, said that the unprecedented endorsement is reflective of the need for left-leaning groups to unite against Donald Trump, the likely Republican nominee.
Hillary Clinton is an environmental champion with the passion, experience and savvy to build on President Obamas environmental legacy, Rhea Suh, president of the NRDC Action Fund, said in a statement. More than any other candidate running, Hillary Clinton understands the environmental challenges America faces, and her approach to solving them is grounded in the possibility and promise our democracy affords us.
Suh specifically cited Trump's recent energy speech in North Dakota as one of the main rationales for the announcement....................

The three remaining presidential candidates spent Memorial Day honoring U.S. military service members, each in their own unique way.
In Chappaqua, N.Y., Hillary Clinton marched in the towns annual Memorial Day parade with former President Bill Clinton, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and a large contingent of Secret Service agents.
The Democratic frontrunner and her husband smiled and waved to their fellow Chappaquaintances and were received warmly, though at least one person along the parade route offered Hillary Clinton some unsolicited political advice.

Clinton, herself, did not take questions from reporters, but offered some Memorial Day thoughts on Twitter.
Our fallen heroes deserve our profound gratitude for giving their lives to protect our freedom, she wrote. Today and every day.

But the Vermont senator also took the opportunity to tweak Donald Trump, who vowed to rebuild our military and knock the hell out of ISIS at the Rolling Thunder rally in Washington, D.C., Sunday afternoon.
Its easy to give speeches about how tough we are, Sanders tweeted, but let us not forget the cost of war on the men and women who serve in our military.

Have a great Memorial Day, Trump wrote, and remember that we will soon MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Five animal rights protesters jumped over barricades and rushed the podium at a Bernie Sanders rally in East Oakland, California, on Monday night, prompting the Vermont senator's Secret Service detail to intervene.
One of the protesters appeared to be hit by one of the security member's baton, while another was carried out of the venue by his arms and legs.
................
Zach Groff of the grassroots group Direct Action Everywhere told ABC News that they have been targeting Sanders because of his message about caring for the most vulnerable.
His campaign has promoted itself based on this idea of progressivism and rejecting discrimination and inequality," Groff said, "but when it comes to the animals in the United States and around the world, discrimination and violence is the name of the game every single day.
He claims to be a progressive, but you cannot be a progressive if you oppose animal rights," he said.

Former DNC Chair, Vermont senator, and maverick presidential candidate, Howard Dean speaks with MSNBC about Bernie Sanders' calls for high-ranking Democrats Dannel Malloy and Barney Frank to step aside from their leadership positions at the DNC convention.
HOWARD DEAN: I think this a problem, I wish he would stop doing this. We have a streak of him -- he never quits, he is a tough guy, obivously we admire that in a politician. But this attempt to undo the rules, this business in CA of trying to get a federal judge to extend the registration.
First of all, they are changing the rules after the fact, second of all, they are not going to happen. So he is giving his supporters false hope that somehow this is going to change, this is all going to work out [for Bernie]. This is not what he needs to be doing at this particular time.
