U.S. Coronavirus Response Met With Alarm Abroad; "Don't they care about their health?"

Europe, in general has always to up to America. No more.

U.S. Coronavirus Response Met With Alarm Abroad
Europeans are watching America’s bungled coronavirus response with astonishment.

ROME (AP) — With confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. hitting 5 million Sunday, by far the highest of any country, the failure of the most powerful nation in the world to contain the scourge has been met with astonishment and alarm in Europe.

Perhaps nowhere outside the U.S. is America’s bungled virus response viewed with more consternation than in Italy, which was ground zero of Europe’s epidemic. Italians were unprepared when the outbreak exploded in February, and the country still has one of the world’s highest official death tolls at 35,000.

But after a strict nationwide, 10-week lockdown, vigilant tracing of new clusters and general acceptance of mask mandates and social distancing, Italy has become a model of virus containment.

“Don’t they care about their health?” a mask-clad Patrizia Antonini asked about people in the United States as she walked with friends along the banks of Lake Bracciano, north of Rome. “They need to take our precautions. ... They need a real lockdown.”......................

A win by Marjorie Taylor Greene would be a headache for G.O.P. leaders since she supports QAnon, a fringe group pushing a pro-Trump conspiracy theory. Her opponent, John Cowan, is no less conservative, but does not believe in a “deep state” of child-molesting Satanist traitors.

Kamala and Joe a good history:

Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I'm proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.

How Sen. Ron Johnson's (R,WI) Investigation Became an Enabler of Russian Disinformation: Part I

It would benefit all of America to see Johnson taken down.

How Sen. Ron Johnson’s Investigation Became an Enabler of Russian Disinformation: Part I

Senator Ron Johnson’s investigations involving Ukraine have become a conduit of Russian disinformation.

Earlier this month, Johnson defended himself on a local Wisconsin news station saying, “What have I published, what have I reported on, that is not true, that is any form of Russian disinformation? There has been nothing.” Similarly, in his 11-page letter, Johnson asserted, “It is neither me, Chairman Grassley, nor our committees that are being used to disseminate Russian disinformation.”

The senator surely knows better, and his 11-page defense of his actions reveals it. Published on Monday, Aug. 10, the letter itself contains apparent products of Russian disinformation. And while Johnson denies taking information directly from two specific Ukrainians linked to Russia and its disinformation efforts, he makes no mention of his staff taking information directly from one of those individuals’ principal collaborators, which reportedly occurred over the course of several months.

Fellow Republican Senators — including the previous and current Chairs of the Senate Intelligence Committee Sens. Richard Burr and Marco Rubio — have warned Senators Johnson and Chuck Grassley that their Ukraine investigations could aid the Kremlin. Johnson and Grassley appear committed to going further down that path regardless, taking some of their Republican colleagues down with him.

We provide a roadmap for understanding this disinformation operation currently in progress, using U.S. elected officials as a vehicle...............................

Trump could face more legal trouble after group finds evidence he inflated the value of his golf

“Trump claimed the resorts — Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen and Trump Turnberry, both in Scotland, and Trump Doonbeg in Ireland — brought in a total of about $179 million in revenue on U.S. documents where he is supposed to list his personal income,” wrote Politico’s Anita Kumar. “Records in the United Kingdom and Ireland indicate the resorts‘ revenues were millions of dollars less — about $152 million — and show they actually lost $77 million after accounting for expenses.”

In 2018, Trump said that the Scottish resorts were worth at least $100 million when he disclosed it in the documents, but the U,K. disputed it because Trump had more $80 million in debts that same year.

“Our research has uncovered numerous examples of the Trump Organization reporting potentially fraudulent financial details to the U.S. Office of Government Ethics in addition to apparent inconsistencies, misstatements, and lies in President Trump’s annual financial disclosure filings regarding its overseas golf courses,” said American Democracy Legal Fund (ADLF) President Brad Woodhouse.

The ADLF is now asking Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. to take a closer look into whether Trump broke the law by lying on the financial forms, a letter sent to Vance and the FBI said. ..................................

Madison Cawthorn, a Trump-loving candidate for Congress in North Carolina’s 11th District, has deleted vacation photos he posted on Instagram that he took while visiting German dictator Adolf Hitler’s favorite retreat.
.................................

As The Forward reports, Cawthorn described the Eagle’s Nest as “the vacation house of the Fuhrer,” which was the honorific title given to Hitler by the Nazis. He also described seeing Hitler’s vacation retreat as being on his “bucket list.”

.................

......................

The Forward notes that the deleted photos are not the only evidence of Cawthorn’s potential far-right sympathies, as he “also named his real estate company SPQR, a term popular among white nationalists, and displays in his home an early American flag that the Anti-Defamation League says has been appropriated by far-right extremists.”

Ret. Col. Morris Davis, who is Cawthorn’s Democratic opponent in the NC-11 race, wrote on Twitter Monday that “Hitler’s vacation retreat is not on my bucket list.”........................................

GOP senator: 'I hope' pandemic stimulus talks fail -- so the government doesn't spend more money

Source: raw story

Published 1 min ago on August 10, 2020

On Monday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said that he “hopes” bipartisan talks on the next round of coronavirus pandemic stimulus break down — because he doesn’t want the federal government to spend any more money on it.

“Johnson said in a Friday interview with Breitbart News Tonight that he hopes negotiations stay broken down between the Trump administration and House Democratic leaders on a new pandemic relief package given the trillions Democratic leaders proposed in new spending,” reported Molly Beck. “‘From my standpoint, the breakdown in the talks is very good news. It’s very good news for future generations,’ Johnson said. ‘I hope the talks remain broken down.'”

..............Republicans proposed a short-term extension of the $600 weekly unemployment boost that expired July 31 until a broader compromise can be reached. Democrats rejected the plan, arguing the time it would take to get funds to families would not provide the same meaningful help as a larger deal.

Pelosi and Schumer said they were opposed to a compromise that would bring a boost to unemployment benefits lower than $600 a week.

On Saturday, U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan said Trump's orders did not amount to relief.

"A payroll tax cut executive order — cutting funding for Social Security — is not relief for the American families," Pocan tweeted.

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, said Monday that Trump's orders amounted to chaos.

"It is past time to take action in the Senate to pass bipartisan legislation that extends federal unemployment benefits and provides stimulus payments to families that need help," she said in a statement.

Johnson, who does not support spending more to provide relief as the pandemic continues to keep businesses struggling or closed, said Friday he supports Trump's efforts to "fill in the holes and provide relief where it's actually needed" and believes the president's executive orders are the "reasonable approach."

"We don’t have an unlimited checking account, so I’m glad there’s not a deal," he said.
