Hillary Clinton and Chris Christie in a CNN green room in February.

Hillary Clinton posted a brutal rebuttal to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s RNC speech using behind-the-scenes footage of a meeting between Clinton and Christie.

A video first shared on Clinton’s Snapchat on Wednesday shows the two cordially chatting during a chance encounter of the set of CNN’s “Face The Nation” earlier this year.
......................

The video comes a day after Christie’s aggressive speech at the RNC, where he rhetorically prosecuted a case against Clinton’s judgment and character, asserting that Clinton’s public persona was “a sham meant to obscure all the facts.”

“So as to Hillary Clinton, the charge of putting herself ahead of America. Guilty or not guilty?” Christie said......................

................Today, however, Hillary released a snapchat video that shows what Christie REALLY thinks of Hillary. It shows Christie eager to embrace Hillary in a tight hug, and engage in friendly chat, even ask Hillary to say “Hello to the President for me”, not sure if he meant Obama or Bill Clinton. This was from February of this year, a short 5 months ago.

Here is the video of the snapchat, right from CNN’s Dan Merica’s phone:

Chris Christie's Mock Trial Turns RNC Into "Show Trial in a Third World Country"

Christie's speech itself was not out of the ordinary; plenty of convention speeches seek to lay out clear reasoning why they believe the opposing candidate is not fit to lead.

But the crowd's reaction to the speech — with loud chants of "lock her up" erupting from the convention floor — is anything but normal. And it turned Tuesday night's RNC into a sinister affair that could have lasting impacts on GOP nominee Donald Trump's chances in November.

"C'mon," Flake tweeted. We can make the case that she shouldn't be elected without jumping the shark."

Steve Schmidt, a former senior adviser to Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, also expressed concern over the chants — especially in regard to how it would be viewed by the persuadable electorate that will decide the outcome of the 2016 campaign.

"I do think the 'lock her up' chant, as it's received at home to that 32% of the electorate who will decide the outcome, it seems a little Banana Republican to me," Schmidt said. "......

Trump taunts GOP in private donor meeting

He ridicules rivals and warns RNC to hire good people.

By Alex Isenstadt and Rachael Bade

CLEVELAND – Just hours before accepting his party’s nomination, Donald Trump taunted his party on Thursday – ripping into his rivals and joking that, had he run as an independent, he could have defeated the GOP.

During a luncheon with 300 top donors, just blocks from the convention center here, Trump said the Republican National Committee wanted him to sign the loyalty pledge last year because they were afraid he’d run as an independent and that they knew he would beat them. Four people in the room relayed his remarks—though two thought he was joking.

“He said Reince (Priebus) knew if he ran as an independent, he would have beaten the Republicans,” said one donor in attendance.

Trump also remarked that the RNC “better do a good job at get out the vote. You better hire good people. I’m spending a lot of money and raising this for the party.” He pledged to work hard for the party as the nominee, those sources said................

Donald Trump listens as Al Baldasaro, a New Hampshire state representative, speaks during a news conference in New York, in May. Baldasaro said on July 19, on Boston radio station WRKO, that Hillary Clinton should be “put in the firing line and shot for treason.”

By Michael A. Cohen July 20, 2016

If there has been one recurrent theme of the Republican National Convention so far, it is that Hillary Clinton is a lying, crooked criminal who should be sent to prison. Indeed, the dominant mantra of the last two days has been the chant “lock her up.”

This kind of delegitimizing rhetoric is certainly not new and has been regularly levied at President Obama for the past eight years. On Tuesday, however, that incendiary language took a dark and dangerous turn.

Al Baldasaro, a Republican state representative from New Hampshire and a Trump delegate, called Clinton a “piece of garbage.” Because of how she handled Benghazi as well as classified material on her e-mail account, he said she should be “put in the firing line and shot for treason.”

Baldasaro is not some marginal figure in Trump’s world. He advises the candidate on veterans issues and he’s appeared with Trump at numerous events, including an incendiary press conference in New York, in May, in which Trump attacked reporters and called one a sleaze...

CLEVELAND — The keys to the Republican Party now belong to a onetime Democrat, a man who has lambasted top Republican Party leaders, a man who diverges from the party’s longstanding orthodoxy on an array of central issues.

It’s Donald Trump’s party now.

And his party is one of anger and division, one that is sick and tired of the status quo and skeptical of all elected officials. It is one that is proudly vulgar, one that peddles in innuendo and conspiracy, and one whose members will speak of shooting the presumptive Democratic nominee for treason or chant in unison, “Lock her up!” It is one that is short on specifics but adamant about bumper sticker promises about building a wall to keep out illegal immigrants and about making America great.

“The party’s DNA has been rearranged,” said Nicholas Kemper, a 20-year-old delegate from Texas who supports Trump. “This is the new era right now.”..................

• WI-Sen: While Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson has trailed in the polls in his rematch with Democrat Russ Feingold, Republicans sounded prepared to spend big to try and help him win in the fall. However, Team Red appears to have finally decided that Johnson is just a poor investment. On Wednesday, the news broke that Freedom Partners Action Fund, a group close to the Koch brothers, had canceled their $2.2 million fall TV reservation. Freedom Partners soon explained that they "are realigning our television advertising strategy to ensure maximum impact across key Senate races." That's sort of like breaking up with someone by telling them you are "strategically redeploying to another lover."

Only the day before, the NRSC confirmed that, while they weren't canceling their own ads, they would be pushing their reservation from August and September to the final three weeks of the contest. While the group said they were only changing the timing of their investment, it's a pretty dire sign for Johnson that his allies plan to only run ads during the last weeks of the race. Johnson already trails Feingold in cash-on-hand $7.2 million to $6.3 million. Johnson is wealthy, but he hasn't poured his own money into his re-election campaign: We'll see if Johnson's calculation changes now that his own party has essentially cut him loose.

Feingold calls Trump comments on NATO alliance 'reckless'

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A spokesman for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Russ Feingold says comments by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump about NATO are "reckless" and "thoughtless."

Feingold's campaign reacted Thursday to Trump's suggestion that under his leadership, the United States might not come to the defense of some NATO members if Russia were to attack them. Feingold is running against Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, who supports Trump for president.

Feingold spokesman Michael Tyler says Feingold "believes our alliances around the world help keep our nation safer, and knows it would be reckless to leave America's foreign policy in the hands of Donald Trump, as Senator Johnson wants to do."..................................

The Horrible Humbling of Scott Walker ha ha Trump camp tweeted Thanks to the Wrong Walker!

I really do not think anything will humble Walker.

The Horrible Humbling of Scott Walker https://www.thenation.com/article/the-horrible-humbling-of-scott-walker/ … #RNC. ha ha Trump camp tweeted Thanks to the Wrong Walker! #wiright #wiunion

Cleveland—Until Donald Trump got into the 2016 Republican presidential race, Scott Walker was kind of a big deal.

In June, 2015, polls had Walker leading in the race for the Republican presidential nomination—and the governor of Wisconsin was leading the field in key primary and caucus states.

But once Trump targeted Walker—in the first of his brutal takedowns of Republican rivals—the Wisconsinites presidential bid crashed and burned. Quite horribly.

“I unequivocally denounce him.” —Scott Walker on Donald Trump

The horror was not complete until Wednesday night, however, when Walker appeared on the stage of the Republican National Convention that he had hoped would be nominating him this year. Instead of enjoying the accolades, he was embracing the candidacy of the man he once decried and denounced. Unlike Texas Senator Ted Cruz, the movement conservative who refused to compromise with the Trump campaign’s demands for partisan obedience (and, in so doing, created some actual political drama), Walker bowed to the new boss of the Grand Old Party. ....................................

.............Walker did his part, endorsing Texas Senator Ted Cruz in the Wisconsin primary and cheering on the last-ditch efforts of the so-called “#NeverTrump” movement in April and early May.

Walker did not stop there. While Cruz earned Trump’s wrath by suggesting that Republicans should “vote your conscience” in November, Walker decried talk among serious conservatives about backing a third-party contender such as Libertarian Gary Johnson.

“Let me be clear: A vote for anyone other than Donald Trump in November is a vote for Hillary Clinton,” declared Walker, who not that many months ago was griping about Clinton and Trump as “such poor choices.”

Translation: Remember all that #NeverTrump talk? Well, #NeverMind.

And what did Scott Walker get in return for his surrender on the third night of his party’s convention? A thank-you tweet from the nominee, which was polite enough—except for the fact that it tagged the wrong Scott Walker (a television anchor in New Orleans).

Even at a convention where Donald Trump has humbled an entire political party, it will never get any more humbling than that.
