Trump reverses his opposition to super PACs and is now willing to headline events for a big-money g

CLEVELAND — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence have indicated that they are open to appearing at events for a super PAC seeking to raise at least $100 million, a reversal of Trump's staunch opposition to big-money groups throughout the GOP primaries...............................

..........Such a nod amounts to a dramatic change in position for Trump, who made disdain of big-money politics a central part of his pitch during the primary contest, railing against super PACs that can accept unlimited contributions from individuals and corporations. He called them horrible and corrupting.

"I have disavowed all Super PACs, requested the return of all donations made to said PACs, and I am calling on all presidential candidates to do the same," Trump said in a statement in October, distancing himself from a super PAC that had connections to his campaign. "The character of our country is only as strong as our leaders."

Trump campaign officials did not respond to repeated requests for comment...............

Donald Trump Gets Bipartisan Condemnation for NATO Comments

By ALI ROGIN

Jul 21, 2016, 2:59 PM ET

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump drew swift rebukes from both ends of the political spectrum, as well as from NATO’s top official, for his declaration that, if he is president, the United States will defend fellow NATO countries only if the countries in question were contributing their fair share to NATO’s budget.

“We’re talking about countries that are doing very well. Then yes, I would be absolutely prepared to tell those countries, ‘Congratulations, you will be defending yourself,’” Trump said during an interview with The New York Times, adding that he would defend only countries that had “fulfilled their obligations to us” financially.

In an interview with the New York Times, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called Trump's comments a "rookie mistake."

....................

Two additional Senate Republicans, neither of whom is attending this week’s Republican National Convention, condemned his comments, suggesting Congress would not follow his lead on the issue if he is commander-in-chief.

Yesterday, the New York Times reported an indisputable bombshell: Donald Trump has been offering prospective Vice Presidential nominees the chance to run the entire executive office — domestically and internationally:

One day this past May, Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., reached out to a senior adviser to Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, who left the presidential race just a few weeks before. As a candidate, Kasich declared in March that Trump was “really not prepared to be president of the United States,” and the following month he took the highly unusual step of coordinating with his rival Senator Ted Cruz in an effort to deny Trump the nomination. But according to the Kasich adviser (who spoke only under the condition that he not be named), Donald Jr. wanted to make him an offer nonetheless: Did he have any interest in being the most powerful vice president in history?

When Kasich’s adviser asked how this would be the case, Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.

Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of?

“Making America great again” was the casual reply.

Ailes, Trump have been counseling each other over the past week
by Brian Stelter @brianstelter July 21, 2016: 6:07 PM ET

Even as he was negotiating the end of his time leading Fox News, Roger Ailes was still talking with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The two counseled each other in multiple phone calls this week, two Trump aides told CNNMoney.

.............................

There was immediate speculation -- even among some Fox staffers -- that Ailes might seek to advise Trump in a formal capacity now that he is no longer with Fox News.

........

Ailes and Trump have had a friendly relationship for decades.

After Ailes was sued by ex-anchor Gretchen Carlson earlier this month, Trump expressed support for him. When asked about the allegations by the Washington Examiner, Trump said, "I think they are unfounded just based on what I've read. "Totally unfounded, based on what I read."
