Looking for TV recomendations (streaming)

This thread may have already come and gone. I didn't see it in any of the recent posts.
Here is a list of shows that I have enjoyed (some may no longer be streaming) Many of them are BBC or from cable channels that I don't get. I tend to like dramas that have an ongoing story. Netflix is great for that because you can engrossed in the story and watch them all. The comedies are great too, but I tend to watch them more occasionally because they don't have an ongoing plot that develops over the whole series.

Just went over my history to help me remember some of the shows I watched last year - I Watch way TOO MUCH Television.

The first list is ones that thought ere especially good.

The United States of Tara
Life on Mars
Terries
Daybreak
Sports Night
The Good Guys
Commander and Chief
Luther
Sports Night
The Good Guys
Survivors

Archangel
The Unusuals
The Kill Point
Psych
Damages
Arrested Development
Commander and Chief
Persons Unknown
Flash Forward
The State Within

Does your experience with religion as a child influence how you approach Atheism?

Here are several questions, all asking the same basic thing:

Generally speaking, do people who were raised in strict religious homes but later become Atheists 'practice' their Atheism differently then those who were raised in largely secular homes?

If you never had to reject Christianity might you now be less hostile towards it?

If you family members who are constantly trying to 'save' you how does that effect how you express your Atheism?

If you remained closeted about your atheism for many years does effect things once you come out?

If Boy Scouts say OK to gay scouts, will they still leave out Atheists?

If you read to the bottom of this article you will see the ban on Atheists mentioned.

The Scouts, who celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2010, have had a long-standing policy of excluding gays and atheists. Controversy over the policy intensified in 2000 when the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the Scouts to maintain the policy in the face of a legal challenge.

Of course the inclusion of gay scouts and scout masters is long overdue and it would be a step in the right direction. What I find interesting is that some of the reporting fails to mention at all the exclusion of atheists. If the scouts do make the change they will be hailed as being totally inclusive. Then they may again get some funding through the United Way.

"I'm not religious' vs. 'I am an atheist'

So today I was talking to someone at a store that sells used things , there was a sign that said they had gravestones. I said, 'I'm not religious, but buying a used gravestone seems like bad ju-ju. " turns out they were old,but not used. The reason for the post is my choice of words. Why didn't I go ahead and say I was an atheist? It seems like that would be inherently provocative and in this situation I didn't feel the need to do that. Comments?

Wisconsin was a referendum on the recall process

(this became very disjointed, but I am not able to do much editing, sorry)

6 in 10 Wisconsin voters thought that a recall should only be used for 'official misconduct". Some here will argue that that happened in Wisconsin, but the point is that, regardless of the politics there were some in Wisconsin who thought there never should have been a recall. Many who may have been partial to Barrett may have stayed home or even voted for Walker because they saw the recall as an abuse of the system. Of those who voted Obama had a 7 point lead (51-44) over Romney. Walker won by 7 points. That is a large number of voters who say they support the President, but voted for Walker.

Elections have consequences. The Wisconsin Dems lost big in 2010. This is not about politics, I am probably more liberal than at least 2/3rds of you. Its about the process. I don't care what the Rs did (I do care in the micro, but I am making a point about the macro). I know that there are allegations about Walker, but at this point they are just allegations. Remember back to the Clinton Impeachment, how did you feel about that? It was all about partisan politics, it was wrong and it was bad for the country and so is Wisconsin.

I think that there is a much larger story here than Wisconsin. I would not be surprised at all if we started to see a slew of recalls after 2012. Next time the challenger may be a Republican who is able to out spend an incumbent Democrat because of one or two large donors. In that case the challenger could easily win.

Glass Cabin Republicans Hold Undisclosed Party (humor)

Glass Cabin Republicans Hold Undisclosed Party

[link:http://www.freewoodpost.com/2012/06/02/glass-cabin-republicans-hold-undisclosed-party/

“The Glass Cabin Republicans are happy to announce the success of the party they secretly held on October 31st of last year at Washington DC’s famed Town Danceboutique. The name and theme of the event was Staying In, which refers to ongoing efforts to keep the group’s members in office by keeping them in the closet. The organization had not held a public event of this size since it’s founding 152 years ago. The organization decided to take a risk because they believe it will be an important networking tool and a good chance to party among like-minded people.”

An unnamed party goer described the event as,

“A lot like a Log Cabin Republican event, but with more shame, denial and self-loathing.”

Mississippi Town Regulates Menstrual Cycles - original satire from FREEWOODPOST.com

Mississippi Town Regulates Menstrual Cycles

However the plan is enthusiastically supported by a large majority of the town’s male population. Cooter Davenport, a local auto mechanic, expressed an opinion that is shared by most men in the town;

“I am for women’s rights and all, but they are all going to have their periods anyway. Is it really that much of an inconvenience for them to all do it at the same time?”
