Gandhi, MLK, and Snowden: civil disobedience and jail

“An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

“An unjust law is itself a species of violence. Arrest for its breach is more so. Now the law of nonviolence says that violence should be resisted not by counter-violence but by nonviolence. This I do by breaking the law and by peacefully submitting to arrest and imprisonment.”
― Mahatma Gandhi, Non-violence in Peace and War 1942-49

FWIW as to the NSA business, I am with Sen. Wyden

I am a very strong supporter of the president, I have opposed the PATRIOT ACT for about a decade. I don't know what the Senator thinks about Snowden (that is a different matter). I think he is a traitor.

I also despise the efforts of longtime Obama haters to make this their most recent final straw. Getcha a GOP President and see how it works out.

I give a shit about LGBT Americans (and Russians).

I give a shit about people with preexisting medical condition.

I give a shit about not turning over the executive branch of government to the likes of this dipshit"

Slouch

During Friday’s news conference, President Obama described Russian President Vladmir Putin as having a “slouch…looking like that bored schoolboy in the back of the classroom.”

breastfeeding at hate-fil-a

Aiming to educate diners about a woman’s right to breastfeed in public, a group of about 20 women staged a "nurse-in" Wednesday at a Chick-fil-A in Knoxville, Tennessee. That’s where, earlier in the week, an employee had asked a mother nursing her 5-month-old daughter to stop.

"Just as I was finishing up, an employee came up and told me other parents were afraid of letting their children play while I was feeding her, especially without a cover," mom Jennifer Day told ABC News 6 in Knoxville. So she rallied other lactating pals, who decided the protest would be an effective way of letting folks know that the state law — which allows women to breastfeed anywhere, public or private, where they are "otherwise authorized to be present" — is on the mom’s side.

Anthony Weiner Knocks On Doors, Mocks Reporters, Delivers Fake British Weather Forecast

“I just have the feeling I’ve like, stepped into a Monty Python bit,” he said in response to a question on whether anything would stop his scandal-scarred campaign. “I don’t know, would anything stop me? Now is a rock going to fall onto my head. No, nothing’s going to stop me, I’m going to win this election.”

Then he offered to deliver a British weather forecast. “It’s going to be raining and cloudy and gray, so do what you can guys. Try to keep your head up,” he said. “Keep a stiff - what is it - stiiff upper lip.”

The British reporter was not the only target of his mockery. “Do you have like plumbing and stuff like that? Indoor plumbing,” he asked a reporter from German Der Spiegel.

Insurrection

Late last month we told you about Police Chief Mark Kessler of Gilberton, PA. He was the one making videos of himself making various threats and railing against his perceived political adversaries and general going militia - despite the fact that he’s not just some lone gun nut but the police chief, the guy who’s supposed to be upholding the law.

In the background, Kessler had ambiguous ties with a self-styled paramilitary group which he claimed might be required to fight the federal government’s unconstitutional actions. Later as the town started wondering what kind of situation they had on their hands, the Borough Council suspended him for 30 days.

Now the town is demanding that he provide an inventory of the guns he purchased while he was working for the city.

Russia Plans To Enforce Anti-Gay Law For Athletes, Fans During Olympics

“An athlete of nontraditional sexual orientation isn’t banned from coming to Sochi,” Vitaly Mutko said in an interview with R-Sport, the sports newswire of state news agency RIA Novosti. “But if he goes out into the streets and starts to propagandize, then of course he will be held accountable.”

......

Instead of a boycott of the Olympics, athletes have made individual gestures and called for gestures of protest, such as a pride parade, to be held during the games.

Is it too late to give this guy (Castro) the death penalty?

he says:

he is not a violent person
he is just a "sex addict"
after he got divorced he had to dedicate several hours daily to masturbation
the sex with his victims was consensual
again, he is not a violent person
everything worked out in the end because they are back with their families and are happy!
