U.S.: Syria government has constructed a crematorium to dispose of thousands of prisoners

Source: Washington Post

By Washington Post Staff May 15 at 12:14 PM
Officials say at least 50 prisoners a day are executed, some in mass hangings, at the notorious Sednaya military prison outside of Damascus. And the officals accused Russia and Iran of complicity in “these atrocities.” The U.S. released aerial photos of the facility and said its information came from “intelligence assessments” as well as human rights groups.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.

Shades of the holocaust? It seems to be backed by Russia and Iran.

Sounds like the Trump-Russiagate grand jury is making headway!

Don't fall for browsing history fundraisers....interesting Snopes article

Activists Threaten to Spill Congress’ Browsing Histories After Privacy Rollback

http://www.snopes.com/2017/03/30/activists-congress-privacy-vote/

Redditor Tempkins writes..
1. First off – this bill hasn’t been signed, the data doesn’t exist, and nobody knows what they’re talking about. We don’t know if there will be any data to buy, how it will work, or what will be available. This means you should be very skeptical of any GoFundMe projects to buy this data. They are making promises they can’t possibly keep.If and when any data becomes available, myself and Cards Against Humanity will do whatever we can do acquire it and publish it. We have a long track record of activism and spending around government transparency issues. We’ve donated over a million dollars to the Sunlight Foundation and the EFF.

2. This may take a long time. We may have to file FOIA requests. We may have to buy browsing data for Congressional office building ZIP codes and then p-hack our way to statistical significance in an attempt to fish spurious correlations out of unreliable datasets, but we’ve done it before.

3. The amount of attention this is getting is honestly starting to scare me. I know that voting this up is funny, and easy, and feels good. But even if we get this data, it’s a symbolic victory at best. Our basic human rights, like the right to privacy, are being sold to the highest bidder while the best minds of our generation are here on Reddit asking pro gamers if they want to fight a horse-sized duck or whatever. Real, material change requires sacrifice. You probably can’t do it on a computer. If you’re frustrated with the way things are going, the incompetence and corruption of government, and the money in politics, we need to support institutions like the EFF and we need to be heard by elected officials. I really like the tool 5Calls.org. If 100 Redditors called a congressman, it would freak them out and their staff would have to do something about it. It really doesn’t take much.

Online sales for the Ivanka Trump brand fell 26 percent in January (CNBC)

So it's definitely not political as Trump and Co. says.

"Slice Intelligence said sales declines of Ivanka Trump goods online were evident after the election, and beyond. Ivanka Trump's online sales fell 26 percent in January compared to January 2016.

Sales of Ivanka Trump merchandise on Nordstrom.com fell 63 percent in the fourth quarter, dropped 43 percent on Zappos.com and 31 percent at Amazon.com compared to the previous year.

Nordstrom said its decision wasn't political, it was business. The Slice Intelligence data appears to back up that claim, with Ivanka Trump merchandise sales down, at least online, for Nordstrom.

On Wednesday, the department store further clarified its decision not to place new orders for the brand because sales have been "steadily declining" particularly in the second half of 2016, and it no longer makes "good business sense" to continue selling the line at this time."

So it looks like one more of the many FAILs from Trump and Co.

Nazi Holocaust and the Deaf and disabled

I am a life long Deaf. I have been around DU long enough to know that Trump and DeVos erasure of the disabled website is no surprise. Yes I'm angry about this and I realize that many DUers are, too. For this I thank you all. Now I want to share this BBC documentary on youtube. It's 43 minutes long so you are aware of the time commitment to watch.

From Youtube....The Deaf Holocaust: Deaf People and Nazi Germany is a part of the season of programmes commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Holocaust and the liberation of Auschwitz, Clive Mason visits the killing centre of Hadamar to investigate the development and impact of the Nazi policy of enforced sterilisation and the murder of deaf and disabled people, which took place in Germany between 1933 and 1945. Members of the German deaf community, who are still living with the legacy of this brutal Nazi policy, tell their moving stories in English narration & Sign language.

Please kick and rec this and share on Facebook.

Very interesting Bloomberg article on disability

According to the map contained in article most of the people claiming social security disability payments are in the deep red South. That is Herr Drumph's country!

Enjoy the article!

BTW I'm not anxiously looking forward to the repeal of ACA and cuts to our safety nets. That will rile up the deep red South.

Trump gets bonked! NSFW!

Bernie Sanders Gains on Hillary Clinton in Bloomberg Early-State Polling

Source: Bloomberg News

Bernie Sanders is gaining on Hillary Clinton in Iowa and New Hampshire, with an appeal as an issue-oriented protest vehicle potentially capable of slowing any coronation of the popular front-runner.

In simultaneous surveys, the U.S. senator from Vermont received nearly a quarter of support from likely Democratic caucus and primary voters in the states that host the first presidential nomination balloting early next year, cutting sharply into Clinton's still-huge lead.

The polls suggest substantive and symbolic support for the socialist, as well as a craving among some Democrats for a Clinton rival to rise.

Fear of Ebola versus fear of AIDS...a very interesting story

Ebola: From Microscope to Spotlight

Here are some snips of the article from Emory Hospital

International media coverage of the treatment of patients at Emory University Hospital (EUH), two patients sent to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, and two cases at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas has focused attention on the Ebola crisis and spurred increased response from the American government and governments around the world. This support is critical, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), which warns that the disease could become endemic, infecting more than one million people by January, if efforts to thwart its spread are not “drastically escalated.”

At Emory, infectious diseases specialist Bruce Ribner had been preparing for twelve years to treat a case like Brantly’s.

In 2002, officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approached Emory with the request that the two organizations work together to develop a special isolation unit at EUH. They wanted a secure place to bring CDC employees—from the headquarters or from the field—who had been exposed to or infected with any number of dangerous pathogens.

Slabach remembers encountering the subject of Ebola as a high school student in Virginia when he read The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. The 1994 best seller examined the origins of the Ebola viruses and gave vivid descriptions of early outbreaks in Africa and one in a primate facility in Reston, Virginia, that had government agencies frantically working to identify and contain the deadly virus.

The gruesome depictions of Ebola’s symptoms in the book and in movies like Outbreak, as well as the widely publicized 40 to 90 percent mortality rate of the disease, were fuel for the explosion of negative public reaction that accompanied the first announcement that Brantly was being brought back to the US for treatment. Opponents lashed out in fear, and Ribner bore much of the impact.

(end of snips)

There's a lot more at link below. It really shows what the real human side of the fears and turmoils the medical workers went though. It makes the fear mongers of politicians seem so stupid. Just like in those early days of AIDS when it first came out.
