Dwinal87's JournalNotre Dame Re-Build
We visited Paris in July of 2023 with our nephew and we took these of the re-building/renovation work being done to Notre Dame.
They built an entire temporary building on the Seine river side to house construction offices and restoration work so a lot of items wouldn't need to be taken off-site. Barges in the river were holding wooden trusses waiting to be hoisted into place.
I thought I would share these as I don't imagine very many folks have seen it while it is being re-built.
The goal is to have it open for the Summer Olympics. I hope they make it!

2 Eagle Photos From Last Fall
These were taken on the small lake we live on here in MA.
The one diving into the water was after a mallard duck. We watched him for 10 minutes trying to get the duck. Unsuccessfully I might add.
Enjoy!
Cheers!

Sainte Chapelle, Paris France
Hello DU!
We were watching a series on Engineering Failures and they had one on a Gothic church outside of Paris that had collapsed after being the tallest man-made structure in the world up to that point. Until, you know, it partially collapsed.
Anyway, in the show they had pictures of Sainte Chapelle as a good example of Gothic architecture. The exterior of the building is interesting but the real magic is inside. All the stunning stained glass windows!
These pictures are from our first visit in November 2019. It's not as well known as Notre Dame but it's on the same island, steps away, and WAY smaller. I think I prefer it.
If I get a chance I'll post some photos of the construction being done on Notre Dame. What a monumental amount of work the French people have done to repair and restore this incredible building.
Enjoy!
Cheers,
RDR
Sculling Down The Arno
This was taken Thanksgiving week, 2021.
It is one of my favorites from this trip to Florence.
This one is from June of 2018. Almost the same spot!
Valletta, Malta in November 2022
Some panoramas of Valletta, and the 3 cities (Birgu, Senglea, and Bormla) across the harbor.
Oh, and one of the noon time firing of the cannon in Valletta.
If you ever get the chance to go to Malta take it. There is so much history there for such a small place! Plus only about 20k Americans make it there each year. One suggestion? DO NOT RENT A CAR! The streets are crazy tight pretty much everywhere. Almost everyone speaks English due to the heavy UK influence in the area. We had a great time.
This is from Valletta looking to the Grand Harbour opening
The 3 Cities
Valletta from the 3 Cities
3 Cities Harbour (Any "Alien" movie fans here?)

Juvenile Bald Eagle
We have a pair around and this one was trying to get something under the ice along with being harried by a couple of crows.
Rare Otter Visitor To The Lake
First of all, these are VERY grainy pictures! Normally I wouldn't post such poor quality pics, but the sun had already set and there wasn't a whole lot of light left for the long lens. You take what nature gives you.
This is only the 2nd time seeing an otter in the nearly 6 years living here.
It seemed to really be enjoying its catch. They are so much fun to watch!
Anyway, enjoy them if you can get by the "noise" in the photos.
Our Newest Neighbor
We noticed her the weekend of the 4th of July.
The nest is so camouflaged that if you don't see her land on it you likely won't find it.
Enjoy! We sure are.
