Source: Yahoo News/The State
More than seven months after the 2020 election, former President Donald Trump appeared to admit his defeat on Wednesday.
In an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Trump said the results of the 2020 election were shocking. President Joe Biden won the election with 306 electoral votes to Trumps 232, but the results continue to be disputed.
We got them by surprise in 16, and in 20 we did much better than we did in 16, Trump told Hannity. Shockingly, we were supposed to win easily at 64 million votes and we got 75 million votes. We didnt win, but lets see what happens on that. The whole thing was shocking.
Biden carried key battleground states that include Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona. He had more than 81 million total votes, while Trump had just over 74 million. Both totals were more than any presidential candidate in history.
Trump said in the interview he wants Biden to do well as president.

I had to double check this, but another shoe is going to drop.
Tim Ryan from Ohio?
I've seen Ryan pop up from time to time, and what I've seen, I liked. I do recall he challenged Pelosi in the past for leadership, but it didn't seem to go anywhere. Does anyone know more about him?
Trump campaign's Georgia lawsuit dismissed
Source: ABC News
A judge in Chatham County, Georgia, home to the Democrat-leaning city of Savannah, dismissed the Trump campaign's lawsuit during a Thursday morning hearing, according an official in the judge's office.
The suit alleged that the county may be mishandling ballots and therefore inadvertently mixing up ballots that arrived on time with ones that arrived late. The suit was based on one allegation from an out-of-state Republican poll observer and involved less than 60 ballots.
The suit, filed alongside the Georgia Republican Party, sought to order the county to compile, store and account for all ballots received after 7 p.m. on Election Day (the receipt deadline).

Record-breaking GDP growth leaves U.S. economy in the same place as the height of the Great Recessio
Source: The Week
The U.S. GDP jumped at a 33.1 percent annualized rate in the third quarter, a growth of 7.4 percent from Q2, Commerce Department records released Thursday reveal. But as Gregory Daco, the chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics, put it in a tweet, that growth is both "record-breaking and meaningless at the same time."
It's true that the 7.4 percent GDP rise from Q2 to Q3 is a record. But it also comes after a record contraction from Q1 to Q2, and a total loss of 10.3 percent throughout 2020, so it doesn't even come close to making up what was lost amid the pandemic. In fact, the 3.5 percent total GDP shrinkage during 2020 "means we are still down almost as much as we were during the height of the Great Recession," tweets Diane Swonk, chief economist at Grant Thornton.

Trump Records Shed New Light on Chinese Business Pursuits
Source: The New York Times
President Donald Trump and his allies have tried to paint the Democratic nominee, Joe Biden, as soft on China, in part by pointing to his sons business dealings there.
Senate Republicans produced a report asserting, among other things, that Bidens son Hunter opened a bank account with a Chinese businessman, part of what it said were his numerous connections to foreign nationals and foreign governments across the globe.
But Trumps own business history is filled with overseas financial deals, and some have involved the Chinese state. He spent a decade unsuccessfully pursuing projects in China, operating an office there during his first run for president and forging a partnership with a major government-controlled company.
And it turns out that China is one of only three foreign nations the others are Britain and Ireland where Trump maintains a bank account, according to an analysis of the presidents tax records, which were obtained by The New York Times. The foreign accounts do not show up on Trumps public financial disclosures, where he must list personal assets, because they are held under corporate names. The identities of the financial institutions are not clear.

Former Afghanistan commander Gen. Stanley McChrystal endorses Joe Biden, despite previous tension
Source: CNBC
WASHINGTON Retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal endorsed Democratic nominee Joe Biden for president on Thursday, saying that the nation needed a commander in chief that was humble enough to understand that they are a servant.
McChrystal made the endorsement even though there had been tension between McChrystal and Biden in the past.
I dont think we need a genius, I dont think we need a magician, we just need an honest person who is willing to listen. We need someone who will take in information, surround themselves with talented people and lead the country the best they can, McChrystal said on MSNBCs Morning Joe.

After Trump praise, Pence decries QAnon 'conspiracy theory'

Vice President Mike Pence is dismissing QAnon as a conspiracy theory, drawing a line of distinction between himself and President Donald Trump, who earlier this week suggested he appreciated supporters of the theory backing his candidacy.
We dismiss conspiracy theories around here out of hand, Pence said Friday on CNN's New Day," saying he had heard Trump's comments and subsequently decrying the media that chases after shiny objects.
Asked on CBS' CBS This Morning if he was inflaming attention on the group by not going on the record to oppose it, Pence decried spending time on a major network to talk about some conspiracy online theory, later adding, "I dont know anything about QAnon, and I dismiss it out of hand."
QAnon has ricocheted around the darker corners of the internet since late 2017, but it has been creeping into mainstream politics more and more. The baseless theory centers on an alleged anonymous, high-ranking government official known as Q, who shares information about an anti-Trump deep state often tied to satanism and child sex trafficking.

Outside police agencies pulling out of Democratic convention
Source: AP
MILWAUKEE (AP) Wisconsin police departments are withdrawing from agreements to send personnel to help bolster security at the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee next month, citing concerns with a recent order for the city's police to stop using tear gas to control crowds.
A citizen oversight commission last week directed Milwaukees police chief to publicly account for why the department used tear gas during protests in late May and early June after the killing of George Floyd and to change Milwaukee police policies to ban the use of tear gas and pepper spray. The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission said in its order that Police Chief Alfonso Morales could be fired if he fails to comply.
That order comes amid intense scrutiny of police tactics at protests in Portland, Oregon, and elsewhere.
Since the Milwaukee order was issued, police departments in Fond du Lac, Franklin and West Allis have backed out of assisting with providing security at the Democratic National Convention, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Tuesday . Their departure cast doubts on the viability of the program designed to bring about 1,000 officers from outside agencies to provide security at the convention, which is scheduled to take place Aug. 17-Aug. 20.

Even if the Polls Are Really Off, Trump Is Still in Trouble
With Joe Biden claiming almost a double-digit lead in national polls, one question still seems to loom over the race: Can we trust the polls after 2016?
Its a good question. But for now, it is not as important as you might guess. If the election were held today, Biden would win the presidency, even if the polls were exactly as wrong as they were four years ago.
The reason is simple: His lead is far wider than Hillary Clintons was in the final polls, and large enough to withstand another 2016 polling meltdown.
This is not to say that Trump cant win. There are still nearly four months to go until the election more than enough time for the race and the polls to change. The race changed on several occasions over the final months in 2016. And this race has already changed significantly in the past four months. According to FiveThirtyEight, three months ago, Biden held a lead of only about 4 points.
And while Biden can currently survive a 2016-like polling error, there is no reason a polling error couldnt be even larger in 2020.
