Bernie Sanders RALLY In Denver Draws One of BIGGEST CROWDS In Election Cycle

Massive turnout is latest sign the Vermont senator is gaining on Hillary Clinton

Share with Friends.....

At least 5,500 Coloradans crammed into a Denver gymnasium, an adjacent atrium, and lacrosse field Saturday night to hear presidential candidate and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders speak, in what is being reported as one of the biggest political rallies so far in the 2016 election cycle. Addressing the crowd at the University of Denver, Sanders said: "What we are doing tonight is we are sending a message to the billionaire class and that is: You can't have it all!"

This campaign is not about me," he continued. "It is not about Hillary Clinton or any other candidate. This campaign is about you, your kids and your parents. It is about creating a political movement of millions of people who stand up and loudly proclaim that this nation belongs to all of us and not just a handful of billionaires." Saturday's crowd is the latest sign that Sanders is proving a real challenge to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whose rally at New York City's Roosevelt Island last week drew an estimated 5,500 people.

"Sanders's audience—in a state not among those with traditional early nominating contests—rivaled the largest drawn by Clinton and the Vermont senator in recent weeks," wrote Washington Post reporter John Wagner. "The extraordinary turnout was the latest evidence that Sanders, 73, has tapped into the economic anxiety of the Democratic electorate."

Sanders has been drawing large crowds, from Vermont to Minneapolis, and numerous polls show that Sanders is gaining on Clinton, including recent surveys of the battleground state of New Hampshire.

Bernie Sanders Tells Latinos HE BACKS Immigration Reform at NALEO

Re-post from GD...

Share With All.........

LAS VEGAS -- The second Democratic candidate to go before a gathering of Latino officials this week, presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders dedicated much of his speech to immigration reform saying it's time for the country to stop playing the native born against immigrants. Sanders' support for immigration reform - an important issue to many Latinos - has been considered too tempered. But on Friday, the last day of the National Assoociation of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials conference, he was bullish on where he stands. Sanders said too often undocumented workers who cook meals and care for American children are reviled and shunted to the shadows, a situation he called disgraceful.

"It is time to end the politics of division in this country, of politicians playing one group of people against another group, whether it is white against black, male against female, straight against gay or native born against immigrant, that division has got to end," he said.

He also said he opposes tying immigration reform to the building of a border fence and called for a path to citizenship for those here illegally.

"It is not acceptable to me and a growing majority of the American people that millions of people in this country are working extremely hard but they are living in the shadows, and that has got to end," Sanders said.

Sanders is considered an underdog in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, but has been rising as a candidate in a field dominated by Hillary Clinton. Sanders took a swipe at Clinton and her record on immigration views, saying that when tens of thousands of children arrived on the border from Central America and Mexico last spring and summer, there were "so many voices" calling for sending the children back home like a package, "marked return to sender." During the crisis, Clinton had said children who lacked a legitimate claim to asylum should be sent back to their countries of origin. "The U.S. has always been a haven for the the oppressed. Is there any group more vulnerable than children?" Sanders said. Sanders reminded the audience he voted for the Senate's 2013 immigration bill, which he did only after fixes were made to a guest worker provision that he thought would allow for the hiring of cheap labor in place of U.S. workers.

He has supported Obama's executive action programs and said again that he supports expanding Obama's executive action programs that would shield immigrants from deportation and allow them to work. He said that parents not legally in the U.S. and whose children also lack legal status should get similar protection from deportation. "Until we finally pass comprehensive reform - and I'd very much like to see the House pick up where the Senate left off - we must continue pursuing policies that are humane and sensible and keep families together," Sanders said. But he also qualified his support, saying it "concerns me very much" about businesses that are pushing for guest worker programs.

"As the Southern Poverty Law Program has documented, guest workers have been routinely cheated on wages, held virtually captive by employers who have seized their documents, forced to live in unspeakably inhumane conditions and denied medical benefits for on the job injuries. That is unacceptable," Sanders said.

HERE COMES BERNIE: Popular And Out Of The Mainstream

Share With Friends.........

“There’s gonna come a moment of panic in Washington,” says Cenk Uygur, host and CEO of The Young Turks, of Bernie Sanders’s chances in the 2016 presidential elections. Uygur and John Iadarola discuss Bernie Sanders’s climb in the polls during Tuesday’s segment of The Young Turks. Sanders is giving mainstream democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, a run for her money. “The fact that he’s closing in this quickly, this early, there’s gotta be some panic at Clinton headquarters,” Uygur comments. Bernie has a shot at taking this all the way.

The people are pissed and Bernie is giving them authenticity, “That’s kryptonite to the Clinton people,” Uygur says.

He says the policy, when someone asks for a follow-up he answers directly,” Iadarola explains. “There’s this populist rage bubbling underneath Washington,” Uygur adds, “…when populist rage explodes perhaps in the form of Bernie Sanders…Washington is going to be shocked.”

Uygur and Iadarola also look at political pundit David Axelrod’s thoughts on Bernie Sanders. “I think people will have a fling with Bernie, Bernie’s like a great fun date because he isn’t going to be around town too long,” says Axelrod. Uygur offers another solution: campaign finance reform. Money out of politics is a way to get things done, “If Bernie Sanders is on that train, I’m right next to him…when they attack him like this, I want to be right next to him on that train no matter what.”

Clinton Campaign FUNDRAISES With PRO-TPP LOBBY FIRM As Congress Reschedules Trade Vote

While Hillary Clinton continues to hedge her position on the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the related issue of trade promotion authority, her campaign is partnering with a pro-TPP/TPA law and lobby firm to raise cash. The House Rules Committee held an “emergency meeting” at 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday to plan how to move forward with TPA.

At 5:00 p.m., the Clinton campaign was holding a Washington, D.C. fundraiser with the McGuireWoods law firm’s PAC. According to lobby registration documents, the firm’s McGuireWoods Consulting subsidiary is lobbying on behalf of Smithfield Foods to help pass both the TPP and TPA.

Despite mounting pressure to take a position, Clinton has only provided non-commital answers regarding her stance on both TPP and TPA. On Sunday, at a rally in Iowa, Clinton said there should be better protections for American workers and called for the president to work with Democrats in Congress — hardly a clarifying statement. Earlier that day, her chief pollster dismissed a call from ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos to provide a clear stance on TPA, casting the issue as simply “Washington inside baseball.”
