Man wins his case for protesting TSA at airport!

I find this heartening. Be sure to see pic at link.

For failing to understand and respect the civil liberties of U.S. citizens, law enforcement officers at the Richmond International Airport will now be required to take a two-hour class on the First and Fourth amendments.

The new class is part of the settlement of a lawsuit brought by a man who was unlawfully detained for removing his clothing in protest against the airport’s full-body scanners.

The lower court judge, who was overturned by a higher court, sounds like a fascist's dream.

How many here have cut the tv cord?

We have. Internet gives us much more choice, and saves a bundle in cable bills.

I am curious if no tv is becoming a popular choice.

Pls tell me if you think of a reason I have missed in the poll.

President Barack Obama’s choice for No. 2 spot at DHS is under investigation

President Barack Obama’s choice to be the No. 2 official at the Homeland Security Department is under investigation for his role in helping a company secure an international investor visa for a Chinese executive, The Associated Press has learned.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas, who has been nominated to be the department’s No. 2 leader, was named by the DHS Inspector General’s Office as a target in an ongoing investigation about the foreign investor program run by USCIS.

According to an email sent to lawmakers Monday evening, the IG’s office said that it initially started investigating the EB-5 visa program last year based on a referral from an FBI analyst in the counter intelligence unit in Washington.

In the email detailing the case, the IG’s office said “at this point in our investigation, we do not have any findings of criminal misconduct.” The email does not specify what criminal violations it is investigating.

Gulf platform experiences blowout southwest of Grand Isle

Source: wdsu.com

GRAND ISLE, La. —A Gulf of Mexico drilling platform experienced a blowout Tuesday and 44 workers were evacuated..
The blowout happened about 9:50 a.m. on Hercules Platform No. 265, which is located about 40 miles south and 10 to 15 miles west of Grand Isle, according to the Coast Guard.

Officials told WDSU that 44 people were evacuated on two life boats, and all are said to be OK.

An environmental assessment has not yet taken place. Initial reports indicated the platform was designed for oil exploration, but a Jefferson Parish official describes it as a natural gas platform.

A peek into the mind of Chuck Lorre

You know, the writer of The Big Bang Theory, who has written comments at the end of each show...
what do you think of this one???

As I feel more and more alone, my phone confidently connects with everyone.
As I feel more and more lost, my phone calmly knows how to get anywhere.
As I struggle to remember mundane things like the name of that movie with the boat and the guy with the lip, my phone smugly recalls literally everything.
As I increasingly lose the nouns, verbs and adjectives that once stood ready to articulate my thoughts, my phone taunts me with its instant access to all the words there have ever been.

There is only one possible conclusion. Slowly, without realizing it, I seem to have outsourced my mind to my phone. And to make matters worse, the damn thing knows it... and it's starting to screw with me.
Several times during the day I feel it buzz in my pocket, alerting me that some vital information has just arrived. Then, when I look, there's nothing there. No email. No text. Nothing. Was the buzz in my mind? I don't think so.

I think it's purposeful. I think my phone is mocking me. And it's not just my phone. It's all of them.
They are working together, systematically robbing us of our intelligence, our humanity.
And then, when we are made stupid and helpless, they will take over.
It's just a matter of time before the next generation of iPhone is equipped with an opposable thumb.

Oh yeah, they're smart alright. Evil, world domination smart.

I have to call people and tell them... Oh, great, now I have no bars! Dear God, what is happening?!

The Case for Abolishing the DHS

Excellent read.

One of the many cogent points:

..evidence that the terror threat was never as great as we thought.
A rather pathetic Heritage Foundation list of 50 terrorist plots against the U.S. foiled since Sept. 11 includes such incidents as a plan to use a blowtorch to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge and “allegedly lying about attending a terrorist training center”—but nothing involving weapons of mass destruction.
Further, these are alleged plots. The list of plausible plots, let alone actual crimes, is considerably smaller.
From 2005 to 2010, federal attorneys declined (PDF) to bring any charges against 67 percent of alleged terrorism-related cases referred to them from law enforcement agencies.

and
A
s an example, economist Veronique de Rugy has highlighted the $557,400 given to North Pole, Alaska, (population 1,570), for homeland security rescue and communications equipment. “If power companies invested in infrastructure the way DHS and Congress fight terrorism, a New Yorker wouldn’t be able to run a hair dryer, but everyone in Bozeman, Mont., could light up a stadium,” de Rugy complained.

and the best part is a hint that the "terra" hype has a monetary reward:
Its very existence suggests the domestic response to the threat of terror is of equal weight with defense, transport, health, labor, or foreign affairs. It heaps largesse on a range of contractors, all of whom have an interest in hyping the threat of terror to ensure the money keeps flowing.

Remember the Concordia shipwreck off Italy?

Court convicts 5 Costa Crociere employees

GROSSETO, Italy—An Italian court has accepted plea bargains for five Costa Crociere employees in the shipwreck that killed 32 crew and passengers, convicting all of multiple manslaughter and negligence.

The court in Grosseto on Saturday handed down the highest sentence to the crisis coordinator for Costa Crociere, Roberto Ferranini, who was sentenced to two years and 10 months. The ship's hotel director was sentenced to two years and six months while two bridge officers and a helmsman got sentences ranging from one year and eight months to one year and 11 months.

The plea bargains were handled separately from the trial of Costa Concordia captain, who is charged with manslaughter for causing the January 2012 shipwreck off the Tuscan island of Giglio and abandoning the vessel with thousands aboard.
