Bernie Sanders blasts Trump birther statement: 'This is pathetic'

"Well isn't that something. My word! After eight years of having President Obama as president, Donald Trump now thinks he's a legitimate president. Well I'm just overwhelmed with emotion," Sanders told CNN's Chris Cuomo.

"Look, this is pathetic. And this goes to the root of what Trump's campaign is about," said Sanders. "Let's be clear -- it's about bigotry. You remember, let's all remember, that a few years ago, Donald Trump was the leader of the so-called 'birther' movement. And what the birther movement was about was not being critical of Obama. This is democracy, we can criticize Obama. It was delegitimizing the first African-American president."

"It is not acceptable for a candidate for president of the United States to be arguing whether or not our President was born in this country."

Love you, Bernie!

Hillary: "My pneumonia finally got some Republicans interested in women's health

I saw this line on twitter last weekend and I am so glad she used it! Really glad she is back and kicking ass! https://t.co/Tk64moV9b1

I thought the Reverand Wright nontroversy was the most ridiculous manufactured "scandal" ever

For days on end, the media was asking questions like "what did Obama know and when did he know it" as if he or his associates had committed some kind of a crime. They demonized him for things his pastor said, the whole "controversy" was rife with racist undertones, and it was disgusting.

I have to say, though, the way they are turning Hillary's illness and stumbling Sunday into a manufactured scandal is equally ridiculous and disgusting. Their latest line of questioning is whether Tim Kaine knew she was sick and when, and whether she "covered it up" even from him. As if getting pneumonia is some sort of a crime. One reporter on MSNBC had the sense to point out that she is not president yet and thus had no obligation to notify Kaine (and even if she was president, she was never incapacitated!), but the way they are beating this dead horse, replete with sexist undertones questioning whether she is too frail for the job, and treating her bad luck getting sick as a scandal is sickening.

I get that the media wants to appear fair by holding both candidates "accountable", but treating getting pneumonia as more of a scandal or "transparency problem" than refusal to release tax returns, bribing elected officials, and making jokes about gas chambers is despicable.

I know I am preaching to the choir, but I needed to rant.

Politico: Trump slips back into old ways

Donald Trump’s newfound commitment to message discipline and restraint showed some cracks on Thursday, with the Republican nominee attacking an African-American pastor who cut off his political speech in a Flint, Michigan, church.

"Well, I was in Flint yesterday and it was a very interesting experience and got unbelievably good treatment from people, I must say, and even in that audience, the treatment was great. But something was up because I noticed she was so nervous when she introduced me," Trump said in a telephone interview with "Fox & Friends," noting that the Bethel United Methodist Church pastor Faith Green Timmons "was so nervous, she was shaking" when she introduced him for his speech.

But on Wednesday night, Trump apparently couldn’t resist, and again questioned Clinton’s stamina during a rally in Canton, Ohio.

"You think this is easy? In this beautiful room that is 122 degrees," Trump said, although the arena was notably chillier than his usual venues. "It is hot and it is always hot when I perform, because the crowds are so big, these rooms were not designed for this kind of crowd.”

"I don't know folks, do you think Hillary could stand up here for an hour?" he asked.

I also read on Twitter last night that he said something along the lines of telling the audience he didn't feel sorry for them because he works hard too, but I have not seen much about that.

As predicted, he couldn't help himself

I'm surprised it took this long. I'm almost starting to feel sorry for his staff trying to keep him under control.

Trump Takes Swipe at Clinton's Health at Ohio Rally

On Wednesday night, Trump gave up the measured tone, mostly ignored his prepared remarks and, feeling the heat in an otherwise chilly arena, he wondered aloud the crowd if Hillary Clinton could hold a rally like this.

"You think Hillary would be able to stand up here for an hour and do this?" he mused. "I don't think so."

Trump has questioned Clinton's stamina before, but the comments take on new meaning after Clinton's episode at New York City's 9/11 memorial and revelation of a pneumonia diagnosis over the weekend.

"Now we have one [opponent] left, and in all fairness, she's lying in bed getting better, and we want her better," Trump said." We want her back on the trail. Right? We want her back on the trail."

Fahrenthold posts image of the check from Trump's foundation for the portrait of himself

https://twitter.com/Fahrenthold/status/776163260865314816

Here's the check that @realdonaldtrump sent for that painting. Clearly came from his foundation, w/his signature.

In another tweet, he says that:
Tax laws bar charity leaders, like @realDonaldTrump, from using charity money to buy things for themselves.

Fahrenthold is the WashPost investigative journalist who wrote the Trump foundation story. Not sure what to make of this.

Clinton campaign releases additional medical records

Source: USA Today

Hillary Clinton is releasing more detailed medical records Wednesday that describe the form of pneumonia she's been diagnosed with as a mild, non-contagious bacterial infection and which include more specifics about the results of routine lab tests, such as blood cholesterol levels and her annual mammogram.
...
In July 2015, Bardack, an internist in Mount Kisco, N.Y., said Clinton is a “healthy 67-year-old female whose current medical conditions include hypothyroidism and seasonal pollen allergies.” She concluded then that Clinton is in “excellent physical condition and fit to serve.”

Clinton's history of blood clots has been a focus. Clinton, who is now 68, had to undergo anticoagulation therapy to dissolve a blood clot and had to wear special glasses to correct double vision for nearly two months starting in late 2012. Bardack said follow-up exams in 2013 “revealed complete resolution of the effects of the concussion as well as total dissolution of the thrombosis.” She’s had two prior blood clots in her leg, once in 1998 and once in 2009.

This is a good start, but I think Hillary has an opportunity here to really put this ridiculous controversy to bed by releasing the underlying tests her doctor mentioned as well as waiving HIPAA and having her doctor take questions from the media. She shouldn't have to but it is an opportunity to contrast herself with Trump's bogus Dr. Oz release and put this whole issue behind her.
