Tonight's debate format will force the candidates to confront two unpredictable things: regular 'mericans and regular 'merican furniture.
According to CNN's Dana Bash, Mitt Romney has been especially concerned with the latter, with campaign sources telling her that Romney has been practicing climbing and sitting on the bar stools that will be used during the debate.
It's easy to mock Romney's unfamiliarity with plebeian seating, but as the saying goes, you have to walk a mile in man's bespoke slippers before you can understand him. We may be familiar with bar stools, but let he among us who would be totally comfortable in a car elevator cast the first precious stone.

HEMPSTEAD, NY—In response to a question on unemployment asked during tonight’s town-hall-style debate, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney shared a touching and poignant lie about meeting a struggling single mother of four on the campaign trail.
“Just the other day I was in Richmond, VA, and a young woman named Sarah walked up to me and told me she had just lost her job and was finding it harder and harder to put food on the table for her kids,” Romney said of the woman he has never actually met because she does not exist. “She said to me, ‘Mitt, I just can’t survive another four years of high taxes and out-of-control government spending under President Obama.’ Well, Sarah, if you’re watching tonight, I want you to know that under my watch, we will reduce the tax burden on Americans, bring back jobs, and make sure everyone has a chance to be successful.”
Sources confirmed the debate audience was also moved by another completely fabricated story in which Romney spoke of an elderly woman in Ohio who isn’t real and who tearfully explained that she just wants to make her own choices about health care.

Even under the most generous economic assumptions, Mitt Romney's tax plan simply doesn't work.

FORTUNE -- With the federal budget closed as of September 30, we now have the final numbers on how much money was spent and raised by the federal government in the 2012 fiscal year.
These fresh numbers give some insight as to the trajectory of the federal budget deficit and can help us gauge the impact Mitt Romney's ambitious tax plan could have on the nation's precarious fiscal situation. Unfortunately for the Romney campaign, when you dig into the numbers, it looks like he will need a magician, not an economist, to help him implement his tax cuts if he is serious about sticking to his word to cut and balance the budget anytime in the next decade.
Romney has been able to coast through much of the election season without really having to explain how his tax plan adds up. But since September, his campaign has been under increasing pressure by both the media and the Obama campaign to reveal how it intends on cutting taxes and balancing the budget at the same time. Under pressure, the Romney campaign revealed a major missing piece of the puzzle last week, announcing that he would cap itemized deductions at $17,000 per taxpayer. But even with that piece of data it is going to be difficult to make the numbers work.
At the center of his fiscal plan is a bold 20% across-the-board tax cut for all Americans. Romney would also cut taxes on dividend and capital gains to almost nothing for people making below $250,000 and bring the corporate tax rate down to 25%. At the same time he promises to balance the federal budget, which, as of Friday, showed that the federal government ran another $1 trillion-plus deficit for the fourth year in a row. He plans on balancing the budget in the first year in office, while also maintaining full funding for some of the biggest government entitlements like Medicare and Social Security, and increasing spending on the military.

She thought otherwise, but an Iowa woman's political leanings couldn't keep her out of the slammer.
Employees at a P.F. Chang's restaurant in West Des Moines had tried to remove Charlene Hunziker, 47, after she went on a political rant extolling the virtues of Mitt Romney and screaming about how "Obama had ruined this country," West Des Moines Patch reported.
A customer called police, fearing Hunziker could hurt one of the employees.
When officers arrived, Hunziker told them they didn't need to be there because she's a Republican.
After refusing to leave, she fought officers trying to handcuff her and later told them "she was doing this because she was a good mother," according to Patch.
Hunziker has been charged with public intoxication.

Billy Graham Endorses Romney Then Scrubs Site Calling Mormonism A ‘Cult’
Billy Graham last night endorsed Mitt Romney for president, and shortly thereafter, his website was scrubbed of a statement Graham or his organization made calling Mormonism a “cult.”
“It was an honor to meet and host Governor Romney in my home today, especially since I knew his late father former Michigan Governor George Romney, whom I considered a friend,” the 93-year old Christian Evangelist Southern Baptist minister said via a statement. ”I have followed Mitt Romney’s career in business, the Olympic Games, as governor of Massachusetts and, of course, as a candidate for president of the United States.”
As of June 5, 2010, if not much earlier, Billy Graham’s website stated:
A cult is any group which teaches doctrines or beliefs that deviate from the biblical message of the Christian faith. It is very important that we recognize cults and avoid any involvement with them. Cults often teach some Christian truth mixed with error, which may be difficult to detect.
There are some features common to most cults:
• They do not adhere solely to the sixty-six books of the Bible as the inspired Word of God. They add their “special revelations” to the Bible and view them as equally authoritative.
