Chocolate Cake Day There before you is the ultimate in birthday confections, a rich and luxurious chocolate cake with rich strawberry filling, you know its going to be a good day. Maybe youre just coming into work, and some thoughtful soul has laid out a tray of chocolate cupcakes, each with their own design and one waiting for your mouth to wrap lovingly around it and fade away on a cocoa fueled holiday. However you like your chocolate cake, Chocolate Cake Day gives you an excuse to indulge as deeply as youd like! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/chocolate-cake-day/National Geographic Day National Geographic is something we take for granted, which is not surprising considering that it has been around for well over 100 years. The first issue of the magazine was published in 1888, and National Geographic Magazines have been published regularly, once per month, since then. National Geographic Magazine has covered thousands of topics since its inception, from lovely, peaceful Balinese dancers to controversial topics such as the brutal killing of animals by poachers and those convinced of the magical properties of certain animal parts. For almost 130 years, National Geographic magazine has been awakening peoples interest in far away, unknown countries, their foods and customs, and above all, those who live there, both human and not. And this is of course why National Geographic is more than deserving of its own day, and weve seen to it that it got one. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/national-geographic-day/

Spouses Day Also known as Military Spouses Day, Spouses Day is dedicated to recognising spouses of everywhere; from being thankful for fulfilment and security of a long-term relationship, to the boost to morale and well-being provided by spouses of those in the military. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/spouses-day/Australia Day Australia. A country. A continent. A land of pristine beaches and merciless deserts, adorable koala bears and murderous great white sharks. The sixth largest country in the world, with but 21 million inhabitants. Closer to Asia than any other continent, so close that many pop over to Bali for the weekend, yet bearing virtually no resemblance to Asia whatever. And as comedian Victor Borge put it, When its midnight in Australia, nobody knows what time it is anywhere else. To most people, Australia is a land of mystery, danger and majestic beauty. All who have been there come back astonished at the number of things they didnt know existed before going there, and those that decide to stay there rarely look back. Thats why it goes without saying that this unique continent more than deserves its own day. Right mate? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/australia-day/

A New U.S. Budget Blueprint May Affect Genealogists
The new administrations federal budget blueprinta sort of planning document in the budgeting processwould eliminate the National Endowment for the Humanities. If this line item manages to make it through to the final budget for fiscal year 2018, its genealogical impact might surprise you.
The National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) was created in 1965 as an independent federal agency funding humanities programs in the United States. NEH grants help fund many genealogy staples, such as museums, archives and libraries as well as public television and universities.
The NEHs grants also support historical records digitization and access projects including the free Chronicling America newspaper search website. Chronicling America was sparked by The United States Newspaper Project, which microfilmed and cataloged 63.3 million pages of American newspapers. Chronicling America lets you search and view digitized American newspaper pages from 1789 to 1924, as well as a directory of all U.S. Newspapers published from 1690 to present.
Genealogists use newspapers to find key details about their ancestors. Diane Haddad wrote this article about her experience finding a 1924 article about her grandfather. She also shares how Chronicling America helps genealogists find old newspapers.

National Irish Coffee Day will be celebrated worldwide by the millions of discerning diners who have rounded off countless meals with this enticing and aromatic blend of beverages. Its advent will be just as enthusiastically commemorated by the millions more who need no special occasion to mark the unique marriage of two of the most appreciated tastes ever concocted. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/irish-coffee-day/A Room of One's Own Day As I write these words, surrounded by yelling children and a bad-tempered spouse with a headache, I can heartily attest to Virginia Woolfs assertion that in order to write successfully, one needs a room of ones own. Woolfs 1928 essay A Room of Ones Own was surely the inspiration behind A Room Of Ones Own Day. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/a-room-of-ones-own-day/
Opposite Day It starts with revving your brain up to be ready for a day of opposite sayings! When you like something say how much you hate it. Sen. Walsh calls RTW government overreach and bureaucratic meddling
In his first State of the State Address, Missouris newly elected Republican Governor Eric Greitens laid out plans for an all-out assault on unions, calling for passage of so-called right-to-work legislation, doing away with Project Labor Agreements and repealing Missouris prevailing wage law.
Senate Democratic Leader Gina Walsh (D-Bellefontaine Neighbors), a retired member of Heat and Frost Insulators Local 1 and president of the Missouri State Building and Construction Trades Council, minced no words in her response.
Right-to-work simply means forcing folks to-work for less: Less money. Less health coverage. And less opportunity for workers and their families, Walsh said. This legislation divides Missouri and distracts lawmakers from more important tasks like balancing the budget, funding our schools and ensuring safe communities across the state.
Greitens campaigned on a pledge to sign right-to-work legislation into law and the anti-union legislation is proceeding through the Missouri House. The House is expected to debate it Wednesday (Jan. 18). The Senate is expected to take it up next week.
