Thank A Letter Carrier Day The best way is simply to meet them at the mailbox and offer them a hearty thank you. If you know what their preferences are you can offer them a cold drink or a hot cup of tea, or just some snacks to take with them on the road. Remember, they’re the men who bring you good news and bad, but let’s not think about that last part, no reason to shoot the messenger. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/thank-a-letter-carrier-day/

The feeling of success when you finally understood the Dewey Decimal System? Or was it the smell of the print on the pages of the books that kept you coming back? These memories are something that not many children are being introduced to since almost everything is on the internet. Businesses, libraries, and community centers all have been known to hold events centered on Bubble Game Day, because charity isn’t limited to educational institutions. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/bubblegum-day/

Four Chaplains Memorial Day The Four Chaplains, also sometimes referred to as the "Immortal Chaplains" or the "Dorchester Chaplains", were four United States Army chaplains who gave their lives to save other civilian and military personnel as the troop ship SS Dorchester sank on February 3, 1943, during World War II. They helped other soldiers board lifeboats and gave up their own life jackets when the supply ran out.[1] The chaplains joined arms, said prayers, and sang hymns as they went down with the ship. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Chaplains

Candelmas Near the end of the winter season, as ancient people looked forward to the planting season of spring, many different cultures found ways to celebrate this shift from the cold and dark days to a happier and more productive time of year. Ancient Celts took this time of year to honor the Goddess Brigid. Brigid was the Goddess of purification and fertility. They would honor her by processing from the village across the fields while praying for the health of their soil before planting. The Romans tied their festival to the God Lupercus. This was their God of fertility and shepherds, again playing into the desire to shake off winter’s bindings and bring fertility and light to the planting time. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/candlemas-day/

World Play Your Ukulele Day Everyone loves the sound of a guitar, it’s true, but those who discount the ukulele based on its size just don’t understand how amazing a little sound can be. It’s got a lovely, soft little voice that fills you with joy, and there’s hardly a person who can keep their hands off them, even if they haven’t a clue how to play. Thankfully, no one asks that you know how to play ukulele on Play Your Ukulele Day, we just ask that you pick up that Ukulele and play! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/play-your-ukulele-day/

Daily Holidays - February 1

I got ahead of myself yesterday and posted the days for 2/1 instead of 1/31 so today we look at February's Monthly Celebrations.

Cherry Month Because cherries are so… very. Cherries are an amazing fruit, little jewels dangling from branches that not long ago painted the sky with a cloud of pink petals. They come in an amazing array of flavors and colors, from the rich black cherry to the deliciously light and sweet Rainier cherry. While most people enjoy cherries in the middle of summer, Cherry month serves to remind you that cherries can be enjoyed at any time of year, in all their forms. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/cherry-month/

Hot Breakfast Month Breakfast is often said to be the most important meal of the day, and that’s why so many of us make a point of getting up in the morning and pouring ourselves a bowl of our favorite cereal. If not cereal, than a cold bagel smeared with cream cheese, and if we’re in a particular hurry, then we’ll have a protein bar or one of the many breakfast bars on the market to see us through the day. Hot Breakfast Month encourages us to break this cycle of coldness and start the day off HOT! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/hot-breakfast-month/

Heart Month There’s an epidemic rolling through America, and its killing thousands of people every year long before their time. It’s quiet, and doesn’t often send warning before it attacks, and when it does it can leave you weak, hurting, and in the most severe cases, dead on the ground. Everyone is susceptible to it, especially men, and it’s taken out everyone from the most sedentary desk worker to professional joggers. Heart Health month encourages you to combat heart disease and add precious years to your life. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/heart-month/

Library Lover's Month Stop hugging that library. No wait, my mistake, I forgot that it’s Library Lovers Month- and it seems to have come at just the right time as many local libraries are struggling during the economic downturn. So why love your local library? Libraries are a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; they offer security and peace and quiet. They are also a place where you can focus surrounded by likeminded people with the desire to acquire knowledge. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/library-lovers-month/

Car Insurance Day Stop groaning! Car Insurance Day is a real day of celebration I assure you! For many thinking about or talking about their car insurance is rather like punishment rather than a party! I am here to prove to you that If you take a little time out once a year to look at your policy you can happily forget about it the rest of the year. You would like that, wouldn’t you? Let’s take a moment to jump into the joy of insurance…stop laughing, come on! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/car-insurance-day/

Baked Alaska Day Thank you, American physicist Mr. Benjamin Thompson, for discovering how to make meringue back in the early 1800’s! For meringue is a key component of Baked Alaska, the spotlighted dish being celebrated on Baked Alaska Day! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/baked-alaska-day/

Serpent Day Serpent Day is a day of reflection and coming to grips with our fears. It’s dedicated to pondering our reactions to the prime material behind that expensive high-fashion snake-skin handbag. Its unique, slithering form has long been associated with wisdom and power, used for either good or evil. Either way, it is apparent that the serpent deserves a day dedicated to its position in culture over the last few thousand years. In all honesty, where would Adam and Eve be without the third party? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/serpent-day/

National Croissant Day The legend of how the croissant came to be is that in 1683, the Turkish Empire laid siege on Vienna, Austria. The Turks made several attempts to conquer the city by force, but were unsuccessful, so decided to try underground tunnels. The bakers of Vienna, who worked in the basement storerooms, heard the sound of digging and alerted the cities army. For their vigilance, the bakers received high honors and thanks for their assistance in outwitting the Turks. In celebration, they baked their bread in the shape of a crescent moon—the symbol of the Ottoman Empire. After the Turks were defeated, it became custom to serve morning coffee with the crescent-shaped pastry! The legend continues to say that over a hundred years later, Marie Antoinette introduced the pastry to the French who dubbed it a “croissant”. Celebrate Croissant Day in style by eating an abundance of this tasty treat! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/croissant-day/

Blue Monday January can be great month for many different reasons, most of all that a new year has just begun that we can use to fulfill our New Year’s resolutions and achieve any number of other things we’ve decided to put out minds to. However, a cold, cloudy January can also be quite the comedown after the festive holiday season that preceded it, one that was filled with the very scrumptious dishes that caused us to gain the weight we’re endeavoring to lose in the first place. So, to be fair: of all the months of the year, January can be considered the bleakest of them all. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/blue-monday/

If you’ve never had a piece of Bubble Wrap in your hands and just HAD to start popping it? We’re not sure we want to know you. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/bubble-wrap-appreciation-day/
