A Day in the Life of Joe Republican

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.

With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.

All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Argyle Day Argyle – you probably think of argyle socks and sweaters when you hear the name, but there’s no reason to limit its usage to only those sorts of things when there’s a diversity of argyle designs. We’d be very surprised if you didn’t already know that, but what you may not know is that the speed of the earth’s rotation can change from day to day and year to year. So a true solar day is not exactly 24 hours, but the variations are a matter of seconds. National Joy Germ Day Back in 1981, Joan White of Syracuse, New York thought of the idea of holding joy germ Day, and the idea has developed a following that stretches across the US as well as around the world. Ms. White is a retired advertising and public relations specialist and it’s little surprise that she’s displayed her creativity and positive thinking to promote the idea of joy germs. The original joy germ Day also fell on White’s mother’s birthday, as it was her energy that inspired White to have the day to honor her. White isn’t entirely sure how she came up with the idea of joy germs. One mention of it came from a piece she wrote one time for a local inn, but the inn owner had asked her to remove mention of the phrase at that time. Giant Eagle planning to close five supermarkets

Giant Eagle plans to close five supermarkets and four GetGo locations in Ohio, Maryland and in Altoona, the O’Hara-based grocer said.

Three supermarkets and one GetGo are located in central Ohio; two supermarkets and one GetGo are located in northeastern Ohio. All of these locations will close between Feb. 4 and March 4, the company said.

GetGo locations at 100 West Plank Road in Altoona and 1700 West Seventh Street in Frederick, Md., are expected to close at the end of business on Jan. 17.

Meanwhile, the company is preparing for the spring opening of its Millcreek Mall supermarket in Erie, according to spokesman Dick Roberts.

Add these store closings to the list of Macy's and Sears/K-Marts. Makes things look somewhat bleak...

Aldi (UK) becomes first supermarket chain to pay all staff MORE than the real living wage

Aldi is to become the first supermarket to pay staff above the voluntary living wage.

The discount chain is increasing its minimum pay rate for more than 3,350 workers to £8.53 an hour - and £9.75 in London - from February 1.

It means most staff will get 8p an hour more than the Living Wage Foundation’s £8.45 an hour, and piles pressure on rivals.

The new rate is 91p an hour more than Tesco pays, and 87p an hour more than Sainsbury’s.

Apple Tree Day could also be called ‘Put a Doctor Out of Business Day’ because of the fruit’s health benefits. However, the origin of this day is quite different. Menards violates labor law, NLRB says

A federal agency has accused Menard Inc. of violating labor law in a case involving delivery drivers, a union official who initially sought the investigation into the retailer’s practices said.

According to Seth Goldstein, senior business representative with the Office & Professional Employees International Union, the National Labor Relations Board has issued a complaint alleging that Menards has improperly classified its drivers as independent contractors rather than employees.

The agency also accuses the Eau Claire-based firm of violating federal labor law by prohibiting drivers from filing class action lawsuits or NLRB charges against Menards, according to a copy of the complaint provided by Goldstein.
