Gingerbread House Day Gingerbread House Day is a day that can be celebrated in a wide variety of fun ways, and will be a day that children in particular will really enjoy. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/gingerbread-house-day/

International Shareware Day Of all of the underdogs and unsung heroes of our generation, computer programmers might be the most unsung of all. Spending hours upon hours in front of their computers daily, looking at screens of line of seemingly random letters, numbers and commands, they spend their lives making our lives better and rarely, if ever, get any sort of recognition for it. You may not think of it this way, but almost every little thing that you use in your 21st century life is operated by some sort of computer chip running on some sort of computer program that one or more computer programmers spent days on to make sure it worked so it could make your life easier. The electric windows in your car you can’t remember what life what like before, the blender you use so religiously to make all of your healthy shakes every single day, and that smartphone taxi app that prevents you from getting ripped off every time you come back from a party–these are all based on more or less complicated computer programs that people do their best to avoid paying for, thus stifling the programmers’ efforts. All in all, I think we can agree that International Shareware Day, a day dedicated to the programmers typing their lives away to make yours easier, is a day that needed to happen. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/international-shareware-day/

Poinsettia Day The Poinsettia was discovered in Southern Mexico by American botanist Joel Roberts Poinsett, whose death is commemorated by Poinsettia Day. The scientific name for the Poinsettia is Euphorbia Pulcherrima. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/poinsettia-day/

National Noodle Ring Day a popular pasta dish, created in a 8 or 9 inch ring mold, typically made up of noodles, flour, breadcrumbs, cheese and eggs as its main ingredients. When baked, the noodle ring is then removed from the mold, onto a plate giving it a high rating in appearance as well as taste. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

International Mountain Day Towering, majestic, and beautiful. Mountains are some of the most beautiful of nature’s structures, stolid and regal they stand against the sky, of such a size that they can catch entire countryside’s in their shadow, and turn back the ravages of storms against their unflinching sides. They are the source of recreation and resource, with snow covered sides providing ski slopes to enthusiasts, and minerals in abundance to those brave enough to delve into their stony sides. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/mountain-day/

UNICEF Birthday The United Nations Children’s Fund is a United Nations Program headquartered in New York City that provides long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. It is one of the members of the United Nations Development Group and its Executive Committee. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Lost & Found Day Throughout recorded history, humans have been losing personal items and finding others, and the emotions accompanying these events have ranged from despair to joy. So it should come as no immense shock that Lost and Found Day has been invented, in order to acknowledge the impact these situations have had on our lives. Although this event is celebrated on no set “day” (it varies from location to location), this does not take away from its importance in the least. In essence, Lost and Found Day has been set aside to encourage us to return any items that we may have found during the past year to the people who have lost them and who may be extremely worried. Likewise, it is also a great occasion to try to find any personal belongings which we have lost and put an end to the frustration of having to go without something we need. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/lost-found-day/

McCaskill bankrolling hotline to aid embattled interns in Jefferson City

Drawing on her own unsettling experience as a college intern in the Missouri Capitol, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill says she has donated $10,000 to help set up a special hotline for interns confronted by lawmakers’ sexual advances or other unwanted behavior.

McCaskill told reporters Thursday that she gave the money to the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. She emphasized that it’s her own personal money, and not from taxpayers or campaign donors.

McCaskill has been an outspoken critic of some of the inappropriate behavior toward college interns, which forced the state House speaker and a state senator to step down this spring.

She emphasized that she was pleased that many legislative leaders in both parties appear to be tackling the problem.

A to the Senator for this effort. A to those through the years that have made this necessary.

National Lager Day For those of you not familiar with this style, lager is a type of beer that encompasses a wide variety of styles ranging from light pilsners to rauchbiers to darker bocks. So what links them together? Lagers are fermented and conditioned for longer aging times than ales at lower temperatures which yields clean flavors and allows the malt and hops in the beer to shine. Our Samuel Adams Boston Lager is brewed with two-row malted barley to give the beer its body and flavors ranging from slightly sweet to roasted, and Bavarian Noble hops which impart floral, piney and citrus notes. To take our brew a step forward we age Boston Lager longer to maximize and enhance the complex flavor combinations. - See more at: http://blog.samueladams.com/national-lager-day-2012/#sthash.MKyigxKm.dpuf

Dewey Decimal System Day The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), or Dewey Decimal System, is a proprietary library classification system first published in the United States by Melvil Dewey in 1876. It has been revised and expanded through 23 major editions, the latest issued in 2011, and has grown from a four-page pamphlet in 1876 with fewer than 1,000 classes to a four volume set. It is also available in an abridged version suitable for smaller libraries. It is currently maintained by the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), a library research center. OCLC licenses access to an online version, WebDewey, for catalogers, and has an experimental linked data version on the Web with open access. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Human Rights Day Every so often a thing comes to pass that is of such astounding importance that we must stand up and recognize it. We must place this thing on the pedestal it deserves, and ensure that the precepts and policies put in place by it are adhered to, appreciated, and spread as far as the human voice will carry. Such is the sort of message sent by Human Rights Day. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/human-rights-day/

Nobel Prize Day On November 27, 1895, Alfred Nobel signed his third and last will at the Swedish-Norwegian Club in Paris. When it was opened and read after his death, the will caused a lot of controversy both in Sweden and internationally, as Nobel had left much of his wealth for the establishment of a prize. His family opposed the establishment of the Nobel Prize, and the prize awarders he named refused to do what he had requested in his will. It was five years before the first Nobel Prize could be awarded in 1901. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Menard's contract threatens managers with 60% pay cut if union forms on their watch

It's no secret that John Menard is opposed to unions. But the Progressive magazine has obtained a copy of a contract agreement between Menard's home-improvement store chain and managers that enshrines the billionaire's anti-union stance in company policy.

The Progressive published a story Tuesday with wording from the contract that threatens Menards store managers with a 60-percent pay cut if they allow employees to vote in a union.

Here's the actual wording of the provision:

“The Manager’s income shall be automatically reduced by sixty percent (60%) of what it would have been if a union of any type is recognized within your particular operation during the term of this Agreement. If a union wins an election during this time, your income will automatically be reduced by sixty percent (60%).”

National Pastry Day National Pastry Day is celebrated each year on December 9. Pastry is a name given to a large variety of various baked goods which are typically made up of ingredients such as flour, sugar, milk, butter, shortening, baking powder and eggs. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

International Anti-corruption Day Corruption could be one of the biggest tragedies of mankind for the simple reason that it is ongoing and extremely difficult to combat, forcing the poor into ever more hopeless conditions while the select few in power get ever richer and more powerful. Bribes prevent chosen criminals from ever having to take responsibility for what they’ve done, politicians employ all of their cronies as as soon as the get into office, police officers cooperate with drug dealers, and anyone who dares object is either blackmailed into silence or “mysteriously” disappears. As of 2014, some of the most corrupted countries in the world are Haiti, Iraq, North Korea, Venezuela, Somalia and Afghanistan. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/international-anti-corruption-day/

Weary Willie Day This holiday was named for the character made famous by Emmett Kelly, who was born on this day in 1898. This is a day to appreciate the art of clowning and the impact that it has had on our lives. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Daily Holidays - December 8

National Chocolate Brownie Day Brownies, that rich, decadent, purely hedonistic blend of cake and cookie that feels amazing in your mouth and leaves you craving more. There’s a million different derivations of how to make these delicious treats, but there’s one thing they all have in common. Levels of chocolate so thick and rich they should be illegal. So popular are they that you can find them served as the foundation for sundaes, they can be found in milkshakes, and there’s even been breakfast cereal based on them. Brownie Day is your chance to get in and indulge in all that decadent goodness you’ve avoided the rest of the year, or at least an opportunity to go into some serious brownie overload. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/brownie-day/

Pretend To Be A Time Traveler Day Being able to travel through time to a different age or era is the dream of many scientists, sci-fi enthusiasts, and even historians. After all, we spend so much of our lives hearing about what happened in the past, be it one hundred, one thousand, or one million years ago, that many of us would give anything to see the things that were happening then with our own eyes. But have you ever thought that one day there will be people who will look back and wish they could travel to our times? Or how many people there were living in the 18th century that would have loved to see what life would look like in 2015? If you’ve never thought about it that way, it’s time you did, as that attitude will allow you to see the world in a whole new light and enjoy Pretend To Be A Time Traveler Day to the fullest. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/pretend-to-be-a-time-traveler-day/

National Cotton Candy Day Dating all the way back to the 1400’s when it was first called spun sugar, cotton candy has been a favorite treat of young and old alike at carnivals, fairs and the circus. Now December 7th celebrates this sugary delight as it is National Cotton Candy Day. Each year on December 7th, cotton candy lovers look forward to celebrating the day as they pull puffs of cotton candy from a stick or out of a bag and reminisce of their childhood days. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Each year on December 7, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is observed across the nation. This day is a day to honor all those those who lost their lives serving this nation at Pearl Harbor. There were more than 3,500 Americans that lost their lives or were wounded on that solemn day. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Daily Holidays - December 6

National Gazpacho Day National Gazpacho Day is celebrated across the United States each year on December 6. Gazpacho is typically a tomato-based vegetable soup which is served cold. Originating in the southern Spanish region of Andalucia, Gazpacho is widely consumed in Spanish cuisine, usually during the summer months. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Microwave Oven Day One day in 1945, as American self-taught engineer Percy Spencer was working on an active radar set, he realized that the candy bar he had in his pocket was melting. The radar had melted his chocolate bar with microwaves and it was right then, on that day, that the specific heating effect of a high-power microwave beam was accidentally discovered. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

National Pawnbrokers Day Having to visit a pawnbroker may not exactly be a sign that your life is as successful as it could be, but that by no means means that pawnbrokers have not been lifesavers on more than one occasion. When you need money, and you need it right now, with no time to wait for a bank to rethink whether it really wants to give you that loan 6 times, pawnbrokers are the only people you can count on. Pawnbrokers are also the reason why you don’t have to endure long, awkward monologues about how to manage your finances from the uncle who lent you $100 once every time your families meet for dinner. Still, it would seem that pawnbrokers get something of a bad rap—definitely undeserved, for the most part. And Pawnbrokers Day is here to change all that.

Miner's Day The men and women who spend every day digging in the earth are some of the greatest unsung heroes of industry and modern civilization. They dig deep into the darkest places in the world to bring out the riches that help to sustain our lifestyles. From the steel for our cars, to the copper wiring that binds together our digital world together, everything we think of as our modern lives and comforts exist on the back of these intrepid people. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/miners-day/
