City To Evict Occupy Bellingham (Washington)

http://kgmi.com/City-To-Evict-Occupy-Bellingham/11832354

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Saying Mayor Dan Pike and city government “have declared war,” Occupy Bellingham protesters have vowed to fight a city order to leave Maritime Heritage Park.

In the notice, the city says the Occupy camp’s negative impacts have “reached an unacceptable level and must end.”

In a press release, Occupy spokesman Jon Shaughnessy says the group “will respond in the courts today,” and he promises a “massive non-violent demonstration” tomorrow at the city’s 9 a.m. deadline for the camp to be out of the park.

Dec. 27 Los Angeles, #Occupy the courts: The way the morning broke was quite unusual (Dialup warning

Today continues the discovery hearings for the #Occupy Los Angeles members arrested on November 30th when the site was cleared, and Anthony as well, who was grabbed up by police during a march protesting the encampment's clearing.

This first group involves about 24 people, three of whom are still in custody, one awaiting five counts. They vary widely in age and race; there are several with hair gone grey and a few youngsters too.

It is a large courtroom, with three long benches for those awaiting hearings; there was standing room only, with several #Occupiers standing along the back wall, and a minimum of six sheriffs (going up to eight at one point) the entire time. The judge seemed decent; he really meant it when he asked someone just sentenced to take care of himself. He also complimented a baby's little blue hat.

There was contention between the defense and prosecution on a number of issues, including an order for the police to produce one specific video they claim to not have. There is debate on whether #Occupy met with certain city representatives. And when the prosecution stated that there had been no police violence during the raid, the entire courthouse, until then silent, broke into a group chuckle (which the judge quickly quashed, saying we'd have to leave if it were repeated).

So yes, the city of LA is actually attempting to claim that there was no violence involved in the raid. But we know about the person in the tree who was shot with beanbags several times, the man who was thrown to the ground, several including Spencer (Oakfosho) who had a "less than lethal round" shotgun aimed in his face:

and how the search and destruction of the tents was anything but an act of kindness:

Note that the LAPD demand to create a "press pool" deliberately limits potential documentation of the raid, as they wanted, so they can attempt to get away with the (obviously intended) claim of "no violence to protesters". No pictures? No video? Why believe a bunch of dirty squatters over nice, shiny police?

See a similar claim to describe the hoops they jump through in order to LIE:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1016&pid=2891

and why, from February:

"Councilman: Trutanich Wants To Silence Civil Disobedience"

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/02/11/councilman-trutanich-wants-to-silence-civil-disobedience/

And the sad truth of it:

"My Occupy LA Arrest, by Patrick Meighan (UPDATE: 12/9/11)" (Updated with an odd apology!)

http://myoccupylaarrest.blogspot.com/

"16 complaints filed about Occupy LA raid"

http://www.scpr.org/news/2011/12/07/30226/fifteen-complaints-filed-against-lapd-regarding-oc/

The LA Times, an MSM mouthpiece, published the names and data of all arrested:

http://spreadsheets.latimes.com/protestors-arrested-occupy-la/

There is another possible issue of contention that has been brought up but we'll have to see if it is what we think it is. I'm hoping so.

Most of the arrests were done under code 409, refusal to disperse.

The prosecution fell short in a couple of places I'm not sure I should mention outside of the court as this is ongoing.

Each defendant was photographed along with their property. I believe the destruction of this property falls in the 4th and 14th Amendments...

I'm not sure how much I should say, how much can or should be made public. Let's just say that not everything is going the city's way on this. Suffice to say, there was plenty of chat afterward amongst the #Occupiers, about missing bits, contradictions, etc. We'll see.

All of this was over at only a little past noon. The #OLA action statement on this didn't mention anything like this...the actual court cases begin on the 29th and those may take longer.

Stepping outside of the courthouse, one sees city hall, and the steps where we now hold General Assemblies. The building in the back with the point is LAPD headquarters.

Spent money I didn't really have on a snack, saw this interesting bit...co-inky-dink? I dunno:

Shots of downtown, for grins:

More student unrest likely, California college officials tell legislative panel

http://www.sacbee.com/2011/12/15/4123764/more-student-unrest-likely-california.html?storylink=lingospot_related_articles

One month after the pepper-spraying of student protesters at the University of California, Davis, officials are struggling with how to move forward, even as they prepare for the possibility of new protests and building takeovers when students return next month.

Anger over the rising cost of a college education in California is so great, university officials told a legislative panel Wednesday, that they are concerned about students building new encampments.

But so far the only consensus on how to deal with the protests going forward is to avoid using police force to quell the unrest.

Anonymous: Clarification On Stratfor

In the wake of the recent operation by which Stratfor's servers were compromised, much of the media has focused on the fact that some participants in the attack chose to use obtained customer credit card numbers to make donations to charitable causes. Although this aspect of the operation is indeed newsworthy, and, like all things, should be scrutinized and criticized as necessary, the original purpose and ultimate consequence of the operation has been largely ignored.

Stratfor was not breached in order to obtain customer credit card numbers, which the hackers in question could not have expected to be as easily obtainable as they were. Rather, the operation was pursued in order to obtain the 2.7 million e-mails that exist on the firm's servers. This wealth of data includes correspondence with untold thousands of contacts who have spoken to Stratfor's employees off the record over more than a decade. Many of those contacts work for major corporations within the intelligence and military contracting sectors, government agencies, and other institutions for which Anonymous and associated parties have developed an interest since February of 2011, when another hack against the intelligence contractor/security firm HBGary revealed, among many other things, a widespread conspiracy by the Justice Department, Bank of America, and other parties to attack and discredit Wikileaks and other activist groups. Since that time, many of us in the movement have dedicated our lives to investigating this state-corporate alliance against the free information movement. For this and other reasons, operations have been conducted against Booz Allen Hamilton, Unveillance, NATO, and other relevant institutions. The bulk of what we've uncovered thus far may be reviewed at a wiki maintained by my group Project PM, echelon2.org.

Although Stratfor is not necessarily among the parties at fault in the larger movement against transparency and individual liberty, it has long been a "subject of interest" in our necessary investigation. The e-mails obtained before Christmas Day will vastly improve our ability to continue that investigation and thereby bring to light other instances of corruption, crime, and deception on the part of certain powerful actors based in the U.S. and elsewhere. Unlike the various agents of the U.S. Government, the hacking team that obtained this information did not break down the doors of the target, point guns at children, and shoot down any dogs that might have been present; Anonymous does not resort to SWAT tactics, and this is simply one of many attributes that separate the movement from the governments that have sought to end our campaign and imprison our participants. Of course, such points as these will not prevent our movement from being subjected to harsher scrutiny than is given to those governments which are largely forgiven their more intrusive tactics by virtue of their status as de facto holders of power in a world that has long been governed in accordance with the dictate that might makes right.

Incidentally, many of us are more than happy to proceed according to that amoral dictate if we find it to be necessary. And, increasingly, we have found it to be so.

How The NYPD Tried And Failed To Cancel Christmas For Occupy Wall Street

According to DNAInfo.com, “It wouldn’t be Christmas without a plate heaped high with holiday treats — but it just wouldn’t be Occupy without an altercation with police, who caused a brief stir when they stopped volunteers with bags full of cookies and pies for a planned 3 p.m. Christmas potluck meal from entering the fenced-off square.”

Just like every other occasion when the NYPD and the one percent stood in Occupy Wall Street’s way, the movement of the 99% would not be denied. The protesters held their Christmas dinner on the sidewalk where they served a variety of Christmas treats, sang Christmas carols, and even took communion. It was a very Occupy Christmas attended by both the young and old, and not even the NYPD’s Dickens villanesque behavior could stop the inevitable.

snip

The fact that the protesters came back on Christmas Day should send a shiver up the spines of the one percent. The one percent is hoping that out of sight equals out of mind of OWS, but the community remains. It doesn’t matter if they have to gather on one of a million sidewalks, Occupy Wall Street is still here. The movement has become entwined in the fabric of American politics. The one percent may have kicked some protesters out of some parks around the country, but the idea is still burning in the hearts and minds of millions of Americans.

greetings citizens, we are anonymous. during a time of recession, revolution and government down fall, we, the people of the world rely on the stable order of law enforcement with a fair justice system, in more recent times this is simply not the case. more people through out the world are increasingly becoming the subject of police brutality and puppets of a corrupt criminal justice system. minoritys of law enforcement all over the world are abusing their powers to the extent of causing serious harm or death to innocent people. in no way should a police officer who represents safety of the community and lifes be above the law. a large number of these cases are never investigated, even after official complaints. people have the right not to fear the law and become a victim from the people who claim to with hold it. for this reason anonymous has decided to initiate a year long campaign against police brutality starting from the first of january 2012. members of anonymous, activist's and affiliated hackers will proceed in fighting against these corrupt and violent actions by any means possible, from exposing information on cases of police brutality by posting on forums and social networks to archiving evidence from victims around the world including videos, pictures or witness statements to ensure anonymous brings the corrupt police officers to justice. during the year 2012 anonymous will prove it's strengh in unity and ambition to fight against the unfair world that we all live in today. we are anonymous, we are legion, we do not forget, we do not forgive, expect us.

The Five Dumbest Things That Republicans Did This Year

http://www.politicususa.com/en/the-five-dumbest-things-that-republicans-did-this-year

With so many things to choose from, listing the dumbest things Republicans did this year is indeed a challenge. For one thing, there were so many. One could list half a dozen from any one of the numerous debates. And don’t get me started on the offensive and embarrassing statements, and distortions of facts. Then there are the antics in Congress in which anything and anyone is fair game to sacrifice in the name of making the president look bad.

Some of the Republicans dumbest moments make us laugh, but brought more somber reactions with the realization that real people (vs. corporations) would be adversely affected.
