In Win for M15 Movement, Spain Opens Criminal Probe of Ex-IMF and Bankia Chief Rodrigo Rato

JUAN GONZÁLEZ: Amy Goodman is in Madrid, Spain, where protesters are celebrating a major victory after that country’s high court opened a criminal investigation into the former head of Spain’s biggest mortgage lender. Rodrigo Rato, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, has been ordered to appear in court to face criminal fraud accusations related to the downfall of Bankia, a banking giant that has sought tens of billions of dollars in bailout money. The news marks a rare case where a former executive is facing a criminal probe related to the global financial crisis.

In addition to Rato, 32 other former banking officials and executives have been accused of fraud, price fixing, and falsifying accounts in a lawsuit brought by one of the country’s smaller political parties. Spain’s attorney general also announced a probe into Bankia last month.

The bank’s failure led to a government takeover, so hundreds of thousands of small investors lose their savings. At a shareholder meeting last week, protesters condemned Rodrigo Rato, who was forced to resign in May.

Air Force Drones Trail Civilian Auto Traffic in New Mexico

In a 'lifestyles-of-video-game-war' piece by Mark Mazzetti that appears in The New York Times Magazine this Sunday, Mazzetti writes:

When I visited the base [Holloman Air Force Base, N.M.] earlier this year with a small group of reporters, we were taken into a command post where a large flat-screen television was broadcasting a video feed from a drone flying overhead. It took a few seconds to figure out exactly what we were looking at. A white S.U.V. traveling along a highway adjacent to the base came into the cross hairs in the center of the screen and was tracked as it headed south along the desert road. When the S.U.V. drove out of the picture, the drone began following another car.

"Wait, you guys practice tracking enemies by using civilian cars?" a reporter asked. One Air Force officer responded that this was only a training mission, and then the group was quickly hustled out of the room.

Oakland Occupiers file claim over YMCA mass arrests

The claim is the first step in filing a class-action lawsuit against the city on behalf of the 400 demonstrators, and several journalists, arrested outside the YMCA on Jan. 28 -- the day Occupiers tried unsuccessfully to take over the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center and later vandalized City Hall.

Protesters have said that police cordoned them outside the fitness center on the 2300 block of Broadway and would not let them disperse.

"These people were arrested without any reason," said attorney Yolanda Huang, who is representing the claimants. "When police don't know what to do with people exercising their constitutional rights, the answer is not to arrest them all."

NYPD brands Occupy Wall Street couple as professional agitators and plaster their photos on flyers

Christina Gonzalez and Matthew Swaye say they've been singled out for posting YouTube videos of police conducting stop-and-frisks

A pair of Occupy Wall Street lovebirds has been branded “professional agitators” by the NYPD, who have plastered their mugs on flyers the couple says look like wanted posters.

Christina Gonzalez, 25, and Matthew Swaye, 34, of Harlem say they’ve been singled out for simply posting dozens of videos on YouTube of cops conducting stop-and-frisks.

“What we do is not a crime,” said Swaye, adding that the NYPD flyer looks more like a “wanted poster” than a police department advisory.

Former Sachs VP, NY Corporate Crime Lawyer Behind So-Called “Occupy” 99% Declaration Attempt

A New York Corporation whose board of three members includes a former VP of Goldman Sachs and a White Collar Criminal Defense attorney has decided to hold its own, non-democratic “National General Assembly” in Philadelphia this July.

Recently, Pollok released to the press information regarding the 99% Declaration which touts the accomplishments of his corporation, and their affiliation with the Occupy Movement.

The release fails to mention the following:
-Occupy Wall Street National General Assemblies in multiple cities, with which whom the 99% Declaration originally identified themselves, have firmly negated ANY support for the corporation. Pollock denounced OWS as a stalled movement incapable of success, offending many.
