If you are in California, please vote YES on 37. -Updated

Huge amounts of money has been going to defeat this measure which would put labels upon all GMOs (genetically modified organisms), from Monsanto and others. Who have been fighting this tooth and nail. If they're so good, why wouldn't they want labels to direct people to their product? None of the ads mention Monsanto or GMOs or the fact that a very recent study showed lab mic blowing up to twice their size with cancerous growths. Or that most of the world has kicked Monsanto OUT. Thank you.

Edit: And be careful...Hershey's is working against Prop 37. Perhaps they use high-fructose corn sweetener from GMO corn?

I should have also qualified: those with "concern" will be immediately put on Ignore. Thank you for your concern.

Via Chuck Cirino:

The Free Press confirms installation, secret justification of uncertified last minute election tabulation reporting software in Ohio

The Free Press has obtained internal memos from the senior staff of the Ohio Secretary of State's office confirming the installation of untested and uncertified election tabulation software. Yesterday, the Free Press reported that "experimental" software patches were installed on ES&S voting machines in 39 Ohio counties. (see Will "experimental" software patches affect the Ohio vote?).

Election Counsel Brandi Laser Seske circulated a memo dated November 1st renewing the already shaky justification for installing software made by Election Systems and Solutions on vote tabulation equipment used in 39 Ohio counties. The letter to Ohio Secretary of State personnel Matt Masterson, Danielle Sellars, Myra Hawkins, Betsy Schuster, and Ohio's Director of Elections Matthew Damschroder, clarified the dubious justification for not complying with the legal requirements for the examination of all election related equipment.

Seske begins by explaining what she purports to be the purpose of the software patch: "Its function is to aid in the reporting of results that are already uploaded into the county's system. The software formats results that have already been uploaded by the county into a format that can be read by the Secretary of State's election night reporting system."

(Call Attorney General Eric Holder's office at 202-514-2000. Edit: They are aware of the situation.)

New York Aquarium May Evacuate: Hurricane Sandy Power Outage Threatens Coney Island Institution

The New York Aquarium in Coney Island faces the threat of having to evacuate nearly 12,000 water-dependent animals if power is not restored soon.

Crains New York reports 18 of the aquarium's staff members have been caring for the animals while working to restore filtration. But a spokesperson for the aquarium said they were now at a "very critical period."

The aquarium previously reported Mitik, the recently rescued baby walrus, had survived the storm despite extensive flooding to the facilities.

Occupy Sandy, Occupy Wall Street Offshoot, Amasses New York Volunteers

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/01/occupy-sandy-occupy-wall-street_n_2061067.html

"We already have dozens of organizers working in hubs, working out of homes, mobilizing hundreds of volunteers," Wedes said. "We've worked with local community organizations, Recovers.org, and this really shows that communities do band together, reach out, and support each other."

The Occupy Sandy movement has already received $10,000 in donations via the group's Inter-Occupy website, Wedes said, and has teamed up with climate organization 350.org for a major relief effort this Saturday. New volunteers join every hour, he added.

"It's a pretty diffuse operation here," Wedes said. "But it's reaching thousands."

(Loads more at the link. Word on Twitter has it that 5,000 have volunteered.)
