The gunners here on DU keep reminding me that hammers kill more people

than rifles. So from now on I'm carrying one of these for self defense!

And for concealed carry I've got one of these!

Just call me Mini Thor . . .

I was recently accused by a gunner here on DU of

shaming AR 15 owners.

I'm guilty. I am doing my best to shame the owners of these military grade weapons that are not good for hunting, target shooting, self defense or any other thing I can think of or imagine. Well, one thing as evidenced by the 319th mass shooting this year.

I'm following the example of MADD. Make those who are the problem aware that they are the problem.

Meanwhile as we have been distracted by Highland Park's tragedy . . .

In the last 72 hours there have been 413 other shootings. The number of victims ranged from 1 to 5.

You can read about every one of them here: https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/last-72-hours On the far right you can click on 'source' to read the report on each of them.

What does each one of these tragedies have in common? A gun.

Since the '70s the gun makers have promoted more and more lethal weaponry. Before that guns were marketed for hunting and sport shooting. Now the emphasis is on 'self defense' which emphasizes lethallity of rate of fire and number of rounds in the magazine. Back in the '50s a gunshot victim had one, maybe two, wounds. Now the number is routinely 5 or more. Back then the standard issue police side arm was a .38 six shot revolver. Now it's a 19 round semi-auto. That makes it possible for police to shoot a suspect 60 times.

But still, we can't forget all the 'good' guns do. Every day, on average, one of the approximately 175 shootings was a 'defensive gun use'. One.

When will the RKBA crowd admit that it really is the guns, the sheer number and incredible lethallity?

7 killed, 46 injured in 10 weekend mass shootings nationwide

A Texas trail ride, a barbecue in New York City and a stone bridge in Minneapolis were among the settings for at least 10 mass shootings that erupted across the country between Friday and late Sunday, marking the fifth consecutive weekend U.S. law enforcement officers have responded to multiple incidents, each involving four or more victims shot.

Combined, the shootings this weekend left at least seven people dead and 46 injured, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a site that tracks shootings across the country. The website defines a mass shooting as a single incident involving four or more victims, which differs from the FBI's definition as a single incident in which four or more people, not including the suspect, are killed.

What Democrats asked for and Gun Violence activists support would have a major impact on this going forward, the watered down Law to satisfy Republicans and signed by Biden will do little. Yes it is a good thing to make incremental progress. Yes the bill will help reduce some domestic gun violence. Yes mental health funding is important if not for gun violence.

Make no mistake this isn't over. It took 19 dead children to get this compromise. How many will die to make some real progress?

Make a difference.

OMG! Crime! Be Afraid! Be very afraid!

Between 2010 and 2019 the violent crime rate in the US decreased 3.8%. Wait, what? I thought we were awash in crime! Is the gun culture trying to scare us into buyiing guns for self defence? Could be . . .

The FBI defines violent crime as: murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. As it turns out robbery is down 27%. The crime rate for the other categories are all up 11-14%.

Non violent crime: Property crime, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft are all down, between 3 and 48% depending on category.

So as it turns out the only crime rates that are up are the ones facilitated by firearms.
FBI crime stats.

So what happened to firearms sales from 2010 to 2019?

Might there be a connection?

Don't let this die.

If we do, children die with it.
