A Guide To Consumer Brands Helping Bankroll Right-Wing Attack Ads
A Guide To Consumer Brands Helping Bankroll Right-Wing Attack Ads
Have you eaten at White Castle recently? Or caught a movie at Regal Cinemas?
If so, you may be unwittingly helping finance right-wing attack ads.
Thats because many of the countrys most common brands are run by rich conservatives who are using their personal wealth to bankroll outside spending groups that are running attack ads smearing progressives. From Marriott Hotels to Brawny paper towels, and from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Coachella music festival, corporate executives at these organizations have given millions of dollars to groups like Mitt Romneys Super PAC Restore Our Future.
Some corporations, like Waffle House, give direct donations to conservative attack ad groups like Karl Roves American Crossroads.
The following list of consumer brands either have leaders who wrote checks to outside right-wing attack ad groups or gave money directly from the corporation. Only entities that gave $25,000 or more were included in this guide.

Irans New Defense Minister: Behind the 1983 Attack on the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut
Brig.-Gen. (ret.) Dr. Shimon Shapira
The newly-elected president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, has appointed Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan as the new defense minister in place of Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi. The appointment will take effect as soon as it is approved by the Majlis.
Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan spent his entire military career in the Revolutionary Guard, which he joined immediately after it was established in the last months of 1979. He came to the capital, Tehran, from his hometown of Shaharda in Isfahan Province, and until 1982 was commander of the Revolutionary Guard in the capital.
After the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in the summer of 1982, Dehghan was sent to Lebanon. He served as commander of the training corps of the Revolutionary Guard, first in Syria and soon after in Lebanon. This role made him responsible for building up the military force of Hizbullah, which also was established at that time. After most of the Revolutionary Guard force returned from Lebanon to Iran, and the forces commander, Ahmad Motevasselian, was kidnapped along with three other Iranians in the summer of 1982 by the Christian militia the Lebanese Forces, Ahmad Kanani was appointed commander of the Revolutionary Guard force in Lebanon.
About a year later Hossein Dehghan replaced Kanani in that position. One of his first goals was to set up a central command for the Iranian force, which at that time was scattered among small towns and villages in the Baalbek region. At the beginning of September 1983, Hizbullah, with the help of the Revolutionary Guard headed by Dehghan, took over the Sheikh Abdullah barracks, which was seized in the course of a procession led by three Hizbullah sheikhs: Abbas Mussawi, Subhi Tufayli, and Muhammad Yazbek. It had been the main base of the Lebanese army in the Beqaa Valley and now became the Imam Ali barracks, the main headquarters of the Revolutionary Guard.

Iran's new defense minister is behind past terror attacks against Americans and Israelis, the Israel Hayom newspaper reported on Monday.
The Islamic Republics new president, Hassan Rouhani, has appointed Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan as the new defense minister. Dehgan, according to a report by Brig.-Gen. (ret.) Dr. Shimon Shapira, a senior research associate at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, was responsible for attacks against U.S. and Israeli forces in Lebanon in the 1980s.
The appointment will become official once it is approved by the Iranian parliament, which began debating Rouhanis new cabinet on Monday.
Dehgan has reportedly served in the Revolutionary Guard his entire military career, since the Islamic revolution in 1979. According to Shapira's report, as it was cited by Israel Hayom, Dehghan was sent to Lebanon after the beginning of the first Lebanon War in the summer of 1982.

You know the difference between them and us?
I saw Lewis Black perform live in Boston years ago.
Lewis mentioned something about Bush, and one guy in the audience yelled, "Kill him!"
The whole damn audience was stunned silent.
Lewis Black asked the heckler, "Do they keep you in a cage, and just let you out to see this show?"
Mr. Black put the asshole in his place, and the audience was right there with him.
THAT is the difference between them and us.
Anyone who calls themselves a Republican these days is almost certainly to be viewed not just with suspicion, but with fear. They are dangerous animals who should be kept in cages.
I'd be happy with a modest home that was fun and comfortable.
Some luxuries like a master bathroom with a hot tub. A game/rec room. A dedicated dining room. A Hot Chicks Room. Four bedrooms, an office, a solarium, enclosed patio, a castle tower, and a wrap-around porch on the second floor.
I'd also install geothermal heating and cooling, solar panels, and maybe a wind turbine. I'd also have a gray water recycling system. And charging stations for my electric and hybrid-electric cars.
If I was obscenely wealthy, I'd commission the Tesla company to design me an all-electric stretch limo with solar panels on the roof.
And I'd have a comfortable house on my property for my staff, all of whom would be unionized and paid a living wage with benefits under the household's corporation. There would be a chef, a housekeeper, a groundskeeper/gardener, a driver/personal shopper, and an aquaculturist to tend to the koi and tilapia ponds.

They should refuse to have an attorney or mount a defense and instead rely upon prayer. n/t
Yay! Good riddance!
