Yoo: Recess Appt: NO---Torture: YES

YOO: I think President Obama has exceeded his powers by making a recess appointment for Richard Cordray ... to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
http://ricochet.com/main-feed/Obama-Oversteps-His-Limits-with-Cordray-Recess-Appointment

Of course this was the same John Yoo who, when asked:

If the President deems that he's got to torture somebody, including by crushing the testicles of the person's child, there is no law that can stop him?

... replied:

YOO: I think it depends on why the President thinks he needs to do that.

Mitt Romney Gets Pwned by Occupier at New Hampshire Town Hall

The first (question) was from a man - who identified himself as Mark from Occupy Boston - who criticized Romney for his comment last year that “corporations are people, too.’’

“It seems that the US is a great place to be a corporation,’’ the man said, “but increasingly a desperate place to live and work.’’

“Where do you think corporations’ profits go?’’ Romney asked.

“It goes to the 1 percent of Americans who own the 90 percent of stocks,’’ the man responded and continued to press him.

Romney’s Tax Plan Gives Millionaires A $150K Tax Cut, Raises Taxes On Low-Income Families

Romney’s Tax Plan Gives Millionaires A $150K Tax Cut, Raises Taxes On Low-Income Families
By Pat Garofalo on Jan 5, 2012 at 4:30 pm

.................................

The Tax Policy Center released an analysis today showing that, contrary to Romney’s rhetoric, the overwhelming majority of the benefits under the plan would go to the wealthy. In fact, compared to the policy in place today, Romney’s plan would give millionaires a $150,000 tax cut, while raising taxes on many low-income families:

A sizable number of low-income families would see their taxes go up. For instance, about 15 percent of those in the $10,000 to $20,000 income group would get an average tax cut of about $140, but 20 percent would get hit with an average tax increase of $1,000, mostly because Romney would bring back the less generous versions of those refundable credits.

About one-third of those in $40,000 to $50,000 group would get a tax cut that would average about $400, but about one-six would face a tax increase of nearly twice as much.
Almost every millionaire would get a tax cut averaging roughly $150,000. As a group, those making $1 million or more would receive nearly half the benefit of Romney’s tax plan.

Mitt To The Poor: Pay Up

Mitt To The Poor: Pay Up

In broad effect, Mitt Romney’s tax plan accomplishes the conservative goal of dramatically lowering taxes on the wealthy at the expense of the lower and middle classes.

...........................

The Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center crunched the numbers — part of a series of analyses the group has done of the GOP candidates’ tax proposals — and found that the plan constitutes a major tax cut for wealthy Americans. But compared to today’s rates, Romney proposes effective tax increases for people making less than $40,000.

Cordray:'Real consequences for breaking law-Informants/Whistle-blowers given direct access to us'

WASHINGTON — The new director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Thursday outlined a vigorous oversight and enforcement agenda, saying that companies that take unfair advantage of consumers of financial products will face “real consequences.”

The director, Richard Cordray, who was appointed to the post Wednesday by President Obama, encouraged consumers to contact the agency with their stories and complaints about banks, payday lenders and other financial institutions that they feel have sold deceptive products or engaged in abusive behavior.

“The consumer bureau will make clear that there are real consequences to breaking the law,” Mr. Cordray, who had been in charge of enforcement at the agency, said in remarks prepared for at a speech at the Brookings Institution.

“We have given informants and whistle-blowers direct access to us,” he said. “We took over a number of investigations from other agencies in July, and we are pursuing some investigations jointly with them. We have also started our own investigations. Some may be resolved through cooperative efforts to correct problems. Others may require enforcement actions to stop illegal behavior.”

Richard Cordray Appointed: Here’s Why Wall Street is Afraid of Him

Richard Cordray Appointed: Here’s Why Wall Street is Afraid of Him

So what's the problem with Cordray? There are two, one is an old Washington problem, and the other is purely Wall Street's:

1. Republicans said they would never support anyone to head the CFPB — Period —that is, unless the White House made serious changes to the agency. (Politico)
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/59206.html

2. He doesn't just go after Wall Street Institutions. He goes after individual executives as well.

Let's expand on point 2 with some more examples of how Cordray fought Wall Street as Ohio AG:

George Will on Little Ricky: Republicans Just Want To Have Fun

Quick! What’s one word you would use to describe Rick Santorum? …Devout? …Stylish? …Fertile? NO. The answer, according to George Will, is “fun.”

Republican voters, not unlike girls at the end of the working day, just wanna have fun. Or, at least, don’t want to play by the rules to which they feel expected to adhere:

George Will: Rick Santorum has become central because Iowa Republicans ignored an axiom that is as familiar as it is false: Democrats fall in love, and Republicans fall in line. Republicans, supposedly hierarchical, actually are — let us say the worst — human. They crave fun. Supporting Mitt Romney still seems to many like a duty, the responsible thing to do. Suddenly, supporting Santorum seems like a lark, partly because a week or so ago he could quit complaining about media neglect and start having fun, which is infectious.

NOT LAUGHING

Rick Santorum is Against Women's Rights

Women from Pennsylvania and every other state in the country should be wary of Santorum and his views on women's rights. He is against women's rights, women's health and against women in the work place. He ought to just come right out and say that a woman's place is in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant.
