Boehner: Obamacare Is The Law Of The Land
By Tara Culp-Ressler posted from ThinkProgress Health on Nov 8, 2012 at 5:30 pm
As ABC News reports, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has confirmed that the House GOP will no longer attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act. When asked about the future of the health care reform law, Boehner said the election changes that and Obamacare is the law of the land.

During President Obamas first term, House Republicans spent over 80 hours and $50 million dollars on more than 30 failed attempts to repeal Obamacare.
Boehner did suggest that some parts of the law presumably the Independent Payment Advisory Board could be on the table as lawmakers work toward a balanced budget.
The Board, or IPAB, is tasked with making binding recommendations to Congress for lowering health care spending, should Medicare costs exceed a target growth rate. Congress can accept the savings proposal or implement its own ideas through a super majority. Some Democrats have joined Republicans in opposing the provision.

Ethics office asked to investigate Issa over anti-Obama video
By Jordy Yager - 11/08/12 11:40 AM ET
Watchdog group CREW has asked the Office of Congressional Ethics to investigate whether Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) violated rules by producing a video that attacks President Obama.
...........................
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) alleges that Issa, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, misused government resources for political purposes in making the video, which the group describes as nothing more than a negative political advertisement against President Obama.
The attack ad offers no information about any action whatsoever by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, CREW wrote in its letter to OCE.
In fact, the only purpose of the ad particularly given its release just days before a hotly contested presidential election is to attempt to elicit outrage against the president for holding state dinner at a time when Americans are facing fiscal difficulties.

Christie Calls Obama To Congratulate-Sends Mitt E-Mail
Chris Christie, who last year dashed many Republicans hopes by turning down pleas to challenge President Barack Obama, says he had one word for Obama during a phone call last night:
Congratulations.
And Republican Mitt Romney, the man he endorsed a full year before the election, raised millions in cash for, stood with at campaign stops across the country and delivered the keynote address for at the partys convention?
The New Jersey governor says he sent him an e-mail yesterday.

Romney, exit stage right...
GOP GOTV Volunteer Says: Team Romney "Unprecendented" Failure
The Unmitigated Disaster Known As Project ORCA
What is Project Orca? Well, this is what they told us:
Pretty much everything in that sentence is false. The "massive undertaking" is true, however. It would take a lot of planning, training and coordination to be done successfully (oh, we'll get to that in a second). This wasn't really the GOP's effort, it was Team Romney's. And perhaps "unprecedented" would fit if we're discussing failure.
..........................
From the very start there were warning signs. After signing up, you were invited to take part in nightly conference calls. The calls were more of the slick marketing speech type than helpful training sessions. There was a lot of "rah-rahs" and lofty talk about how this would change the ballgame.
............
On one of the last conference calls (I believe it was on Saturday night), they told us that our packets would be arriving shortly. Now, there seemed to be a fair amount of confusion about what they meant by "packet". Some people on Twitter were wondering if that meant a packet in the mail or a pdf or what. Finally, my packet arrived at 4PM on Monday afternoon as an emailed 60 page pdf. Nothing came in the mail. Because I was out most of the day, I only got around to seeing it at around 10PM Monday night. So, I sat down and cursed as I would have to print out 60+ pages of instructions and voter rolls on my home printer. Naturally, for reasons I can't begin to comprehend, my printer would not print in black and white with an empty magenta cartridge (No HP, I will never buy another one of your products ever again). So, at this point I became panicked. I was expected to be at the polls at 6:45AM and nothing was open. I was thankfully able to find a Kinko's open until 11PM that was able to print it out and bind it for me, but this is not something I should have had to do. They expected 75-80 year old veteran volunteers to print out 60+ pages on their home computers? The night before election day? From what I hear, other people had similar experiences. In fact, many volunteers never received their packets at all.
..............
So, the end result was that 30,000+ of the most active and fired-up volunteers were wandering around confused and frustrated when they could have been doing anything else to help. Like driving people to the polls, phone-banking, walking door-to-door, etc. We lost by fairly small margins in Florida, Virginia, Ohio and Colorado. If this had worked could it have closed the gap? I sure hope not for my sanity's sake.

IMPORTANT Take-Away: Pot Legalization on the Ballot Dramatically Increased Youth Turnout
Pot Legalization on the Ballot Dramatically Increased Youth TurnoutBy: Jon Walker Thursday November 8, 2012 11:29 am
Young and voting
One important take away from this election may be that if you want to significantly increase youth turnout, put marijuana legalization on the ballot. Both nationally and in the important swing states, the percentage of the vote that came from adults under 30 was basically unchanged since the 2008 election. According to the exit polling data from CNN, the youth vote was 18 percent of the electorate in 2008 and 19 percentof the electorate in this past election.
By comparison, in the three states with marijuana legalization initiatives on the ballot, Colorado, Oregon and Washington State, there was a significant surge in the voters age 18-29. In 2008 young people made up just 14 percent of the vote in Colorado but this year it was 20 percent. Even more incredibly, in Washington State the youth vote went from just 10 percent of the electorate last election to 22 percent this time.
2008 Youth Vote-----2012 Youth Vote -----Increase
National 18% --------19%----------------1%
Ohio 17% --------17% -----------0%
Virginia 21% --------19% -----------2%
Nevada 17% --------18% -----------1%
Iowa 17% --------15% -----------2%
Florida 15% --------16% -----------1%
Wisconsin 22% --------21% -----------1%
Marijuana States
Washington 10% --------22% ----------12%
Colorado 14% --------20% --------------6%
Oregon 12% --------17%----------------5%
It is theoretically possible that some unrelated factors or bad data caused there to only be a huge increase in the youth vote in these three states but having marijuana legalization initiatives on the ballot appears by far the most likely cause. Young voters overwhelming support marijuana legalization and it is something they strongly care about. This big increase in the youth vote helped Initiative 502 in Washington state and Amendment 64 in Colorado win by such large margins.
It seems that marijuana legalization is uniquely able to get a large number of young adults to turnout to vote in a way almost no other issue can. Marijuana legalization initiatives appeared to have significantly increased youth turnout in both safe presidential states, like Washington, and also in traditional swing states, like Colorado.
The lesson for politicians and political strategists appears to be that if you want to significantly increase youth turnout, make the election about legalizing marijuana.

Michael Moore: "Hate lost yesterday---Election was total rebuke of Neanderthal attitudes”
Michael Moore: Election was total rebuke of Neanderthal attitudes
11/8/2012 3:30pm by John Aravosis 5 Comments Print
This country has truly changed, and I believe there will be no going back. Hate lost yesterday. That is amazing in and of itself. And all the women who were elected last night! A total rebuke of Neanderthal attitudes. Now the real work begins. Millions of us the majority must come together to insist that President Obama and the Democrats stand up and fight for the things we sent them there to do. Mr. President, do not listen to the pundits who today call for you to compromise. No. You already tried that. It didnt work. You can compromise later if you need to, but please, no more beginning by compromising. And if the Republican House doesnt want to play ball, do a massive end run around them with one executive order after another just like they have done and will do if given the chance again.
We have to have Obamas back. As he is blocked and attacked by the Right, we need to be there with him. We are the majority. Lets act like it.
And please Mr. President, make the banks and Wall Street pay. Youre the boss, not them. Lead the fight to get money out of politics the spending on this election is shameful and dangerous. Dont wait til 2014 to bring the troops home bring em home now. Stop the drone strikes on civilians. End the senseless war on drugs. Act like a pit bull when it comes to climate change ignore the nuts, and fix this now. Take the profit motive out of things that any civilized country would say, this is for the common good. Make higher educational affordable for everyone and dont send 22-year-olds out into the world already in massive debt. Order a moratorium on home foreclosures and evictions. Enact economic policy that will create good-paying jobs and spend the money thats needed to do that. Make your second term one for the history books.
Finally, thanks must be given to the Occupy movement who, a year ago, set the tone of this election year by getting everyone to talk about the 1% vs. 99%. It inspired Obama and his campaign to realize that there was a huge popular sentiment against what the wealthy have done to the country and there was something wrong if just 400 rich guys owned more than 160 million Americans combined (all those moochers and bums). This led to Romneys 47% remarks and THAT was the beginning of the end of his campaign. Thank you Mother Jones for releasing that secret tape, and thank you to the minimum wage worker who placed a camera on the serving buffet next to the candle. This mornings headline in the Washington Post says it all: At Romney headquarters, the defeat of the 1 percent. Thank you Sandra Fluke for enduring the insults hurled at you and then becoming an important grassroots leader against the war on women. Thank you Todd Akin for
well, for just being you. Thank you CEOs of Chrysler and GM for coming out forcefully against the Republican(!) candidate, saying he lived in some parallel universe when he lied about Jeep. Thank you Governor Christie for your new bromance with Obama. You know, you really didnt have to!

Axelrod: Twist's The Knife In Rove's Back - "I'd be asking for a refund."
Extra Bonus Quote of the Day
What was the impact of this unprecedented deluge of media? Axelrod asked. How much influence did this actually have?
The heartening news is that you cant buy the White House; you cant overwhelm the Congress with these Super PAC dollars, Axelrod continued. I would think there will be reluctance in the future, when Mr. Rove and others come knocking on the door, because of what happened on Tuesday.
-- David Axelrod, quoted by Greg Sargent, joking what he would do if he were one of the billionaires who had handed big checks to Karl Rove.
