What is your damage, Maureen?By Sarah, Proud and Tall January 13th, 2013
Maureen Dowd, 17 November 2012:
OUR Rice is better than your Rice.
Thats the argument Democrats are aggressively making against Republicans.
And its true. Condi Rice sold her soul. Susan Rice merely rented hers on the talk shows one Sunday in September.

The problem is not John Brennan: It's us

-"The Writer," from Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange
Meanwhile, no one on the left or the right seems to much care about Brennans nomination, despite the fact that he was forced to withdraw his name from consideration from the very same job in 2008 thanks to controversy over his alleged involvement with Bush-era interrogation programs. Brennan spent years at the CIA and served as chief of staff to former director George Tenet during the creation of the post-9/11 detention and interrogation programs. The New Yorkers Jane Mayer described him as a supporter of the programs, which included torture and the use of secret prison black sites.
There are some really important concerns that need to be publicly addressed before the Senate moves forward with the nomination, said Laura Murphy, the ACLUs Washington legislative office director, in an interview with Salon. The ACLU doesnt take positions on nominees for executive branch jobs, but Murphy said Brennans appointment is troubling, adding, We definitely are concerned.

Noam Chomsky: The responsibility of privilege
Noam Chomsky: The responsibility of privilegeThe famed linguist and political activist says intellectuals have a moral duty to hold centres of power to account.
Talk to Al Jazeera Last Modified: 12 Jan 2013 14:19
The more privilege you have, the more opportunity you have. The more opportunity you have, the more responsibility you have.
"In the 1950s and the 1960s, which was the biggest growth period in American history, financial institutions were regulated. The New Deal regulations were in place and there were no financial crisis, none .... Starting in the 1970s it changed pretty radically. There were decisions made - not laws of nature - to reconstruct the economy."
And decades later, these decisions have resulted in a situation which "really is a catastrophe," he says.
But Chomsky also feels that "nothings ever gone too far. Anything can be reversed; these are human decisions."
He emphasises: "The more privilege you have, the more opportunity you have. The more opportunity you have, the more responsibility you have."

Why not just send an unmanned drone to go kill all the deer for you?
A $17,000 Linux-Powered, Auto-Aiming Hunting RifleThis is a .338 Lapua Magnum rifle outfitted with a Linux-powered TrackingPoint XS1 system, an advanced computerized scope that takes all the guesswork out of shooting animals in the woods. Sport, LOL. Why not just send an unmanned drone to go kill all the deer for you?
The image displayed on the scope isn't a direct visual, but rather a video image taken through the scope's objective lens. The Linux-powered scope produces a display that looks something like the heads-up display you'd see sitting in the cockpit of a fighter jet, showing the weapon's compass orientation, cant, and incline. To shoot at something, you first "mark" it using a button near the trigger. Marking a target illuminates it with the tracking scope's built-in laser, and the target gains a pip in the scope's display. When a target is marked, the tracking scope takes into account the range of the target, the ambient temperature and humidity, the age of the barrel, and a whole boatload of other parameters. It quickly reorients the display so the crosshairs in the center accurately show where the round will go.

White Dude Gets Slap on the Wrist for Threatening to Kill People; Brown Dudes, Like, WTF!?

Isnt it nice when unhinged white folks can record YouTube videos of themselves threatening to kill people if they dont get their way, and the only response is that the local Department of Homeland Security revokes their gun permit?
If James Yeager had been Jalal al Yeager or Tyrone Yeager, who wants to wager that the response to his roid tantrum this week would have been vastly different?
Anyone?

Phew. They suspended his gun permit. That settles that. Its not like theres any possible way he could have guns or get guns. Not with our airtight gun regulations. Besides, he seems nice, so we can all breathe a sigh of relief.
Gotta love how white dudes can videotape themselves threatening mass murder, then later release a statement that says I was mad when I said that shit, but I totally meant it, and end up getting only a slap on the wrist.
Being white must be nice.
