Holder Releases Statement: "The Selective Release Of Sensitive Info Is Troubling To Me"

Attorney General Eric Holder released the following statement Monday following his briefing of President Obama on the latest developments in the federal civil rights investigation in Ferguson, Missouri:

“As I informed the President this afternoon, the full resources of the Department of Justice are being committed to our federal civil rights investigation into the death of Michael Brown.

“During the day today, more than 40 FBI agents continued their canvassing of the neighborhood where Michael Brown was shot. As a result of this investigative work, several new interviews have already been conducted.

“Moreover, at my direction, an additional medical examination is being performed on the body of Michael Brown. This autopsy is being performed today by one of the most experienced medical examiners in the United States military. I am confident this additional autopsy will be thorough and aid in our investigation.

“In addition to updating the President on these developments, I informed him of my plan to personally travel to Ferguson Wednesday. I intend to meet with FBI investigators, and prosecutors on the ground from the Civil Rights Division and U.S. Attorney’s Office officials about the ongoing investigation.

“I realize there is tremendous interest in the facts of the incident that led to Michael Brown’s death, but I ask for the public’s patience as we conduct this investigation. The selective release of sensitive information that we have seen in this case so far is troubling to me. No matter how others pursue their own separate inquiries, the Justice Department is resolved to preserve the integrity of its investigation. This is a critical step in restoring trust between law enforcement and the community, not just in Ferguson, but beyond.

“In order to truly begin the process of healing, we must also see an end to the acts of violence in the streets of Ferguson. Those who have been peacefully demonstrating should join with law enforcement in condemning the actions of looters and others seeking to enflame tensions.

“To assist on this front, the Department will be dispatching additional representatives from the Community Relations Service, including Director Grande Lum, to Ferguson. These officials will continue to convene stakeholders whose cooperation is critical to keeping the peace. Furthermore, as the President has announced, Ron Davis, our Director of the COPS office, will arrive on the ground in Ferguson Tuesday. Ron has been in touch with local and state officials since last week, providing technical assistance on crowd control techniques and facilitating communications between Missouri officials and other law enforcement officials whose communities have faced similar challenges in the past.”

Ferguson Police Busted? – Attempt To Defame Shooting Victim Blows Up In Their Face (VIDEO)

Well, well, well, it seems that Ferguson PD's attempts to make Michael Brown into a thug are about to backfire on them.

From Addictinginfo:

When the Ferguson police department released the name of Darren Wilson, they also chose to release video footage which they claimed was of Michael Brown robbing a convenience store for some cigars.

The problem is, the video shows Michael Brown at the register, paying for the cigars.

"I CANNOT BELIEVE I STILL HAVE TO PROTEST THIS SHIT!!"

France Francois was concerned her sign may be perceived as "rage," but she held it up anyway because she had a right to feel angry. Ms. Francois held the sign at last week's National Moment Of Silence in DC.

"I'm glad it sparked some conversation because I think, throughout the nation, we're all asking ourselves this question," she said. 'How did we come here again? How did we find ourselves in this very same space?'"
Francois said the sentiment behind the sign is rooted to her days as a student at Florida State University when she protested the death of Martin Lee Anderson, a 14-year-old boy who died after being beaten by boot camp personnel. After months of silence from authorties over his death, Francois, along with other students from Tallahassee Community College, Florida A&M University and Florida State University staged a 34-hour sit-in at then- governor Jeb Bush's office, in Tallahassee, Fla.

Witness: 'God Bless His Soul, Police Shot This Boy Outside My Apartment' "They Killed Him"

New Video Shows Immediate Aftermath Of Michael Brown Shooting

Narrating the video to CNN's Michaela Pereira, Crenshaw described her account of the scene.

"What we're looking at is officer Darren Wilson to the right," she said. "He's just looking over the body, just looking baffled and bewildered of sorts, like trying to explain to the officer, 'What have I just done?'"

"And then we get this picture of him pacing back and forth, just like in disbelief," she said. "It's like he understands that he just shot this boy in the face and this boy was unarmed."

...........

Crenshaw told CNN's Michaela Pereira she witnessed the incident from her apartment and recorded video of the scene immediately following the shooting.

"I had just moved there out of my parents home," she said.

"To see something like this outside of my window ... it’s just, traumatizing."

Crenshaw said Brown was running away from police and then turned around. She said that was when Brown was shot.

Ferguson: Man Busted For Sitting In His Car & Smoking A Cigarette In His Aunt's Driveway

Joshua Hampton saw the big black police truck from down the block. He saw the lights, and the officers in military garb clinging to the sides. He wasn’t worried. It was around 2 a.m. Sunday, two hours after the new curfew mandated for Ferguson, Mo., but Hampton was sitting in his own car, smoking a cigarette in his aunt’s driveway. He thought he was obeying the law.

But the truck stopped and suddenly, Hampton says, his car was surrounded by police. “Put your (expletive) hands up!” he says they told him.

And then Hampton and his friends became among the seven people arrested the first night after Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) declared a state of emergency in the St. Louis suburb. Nixon’s decision came a week after 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed in an officer-involved shooting, sparking protests in the community.

“They kept telling me to get out of the car, but I didn’t want to make any kind of movement,” Hampton, 30, told The Post in a phone interview Sunday.

The officer by his window had a gun pointed at his chest, says Hampton, who provided a copy of his arrest report to the Washington Post. He wanted to make sure the police could see his hands at all times, and he was afraid to reach down for the door lock. Finally, the officer reached in through the open window and opened the door himself.

White House “Did Not Know” National Guard Was Being Deployed In Ferguson-No “heads up” from Missouri

Source: Buzzfeed

White House “Did Not Know” National Guard Was Being Deployed In Ferguson
No “heads up” from Missouri’s governor.

WASHINGTON — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon called the National Guard to Ferguson late Sunday without letting the White House know first.

“Folks didn’t know,” an administration official told BuzzFeed Monday. “The White House did not know they were sending it in.”

Nixon gave “no heads up,” the official said.

President Obama is back at the White House today on a pre-scheduled break from his August vacation in Martha’s Vineyard. He’s scheduled to be briefed by Attorney General Eric Holder on the situation in Ferguson early this afternoon. Holder and the administration have been critical of the militarized response to protests in Ferguson.

Charlies Pierce: The Who Will Be Indicted First? Derby.

Charlies Pierce is back from vacation:

In a sane democracy, the idea of Rick Perry as president of the United States would be treated as the fringe enthusiasm of shoeless mouth-breathers. In 2012, the man could barely get from a subject to a verb without turning an ankle. Now, four years later, he puts on a pair of hornrims, and we are all supposed to buy him as legitimately the best person for the worst job in the world? I guess that's what the kidz at Tiger Beat On The Potomac think, anyway, because they broke a lot of rock telling us that Goodhair is going to ride out the latest ditch into which he's steered his bandwagon -- to wit, beating both Chris Christie and Scott Walker to the tape in the Who Will Be Indicted First? Derby.
