SPRINGSTEEN!

BECAUSE HE DOESN'T LIKE HIM 8:30 PM JUNE 21, 2012
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN WON’T EVEN GIVE SUPERFAN CHRIS CHRISTIE A HANDSIE
BY JIM NEWELL

Despite heroic efforts by Christie, Springsteen, who is still a New Jersey resident, will not talk to him. They’ve met twice—once on an airplane in 1999, and then at the 2010 ceremony inducting Danny DeVito into the New Jersey Hall of Fame, where they exchanged only formal pleasantries. (Christie does say that Springsteen was very kind to his children.) At concerts, even concerts in club-size venues—the Stone Pony, in Asbury Park, most recently—Springsteen won’t acknowledge the governor. When Christie leaves a Springsteen concert in a large arena, his state troopers move him to his motorcade through loading docks. He walks within feet of the stage, and of the dressing rooms. He’s never been invited to say hello. On occasion, he’ll make a public plea to Springsteen, as he did earlier this spring, when Christie asked him to play at a new casino in Atlantic City. “He says he’s for the revitalization of the Jersey Shore, so this seems obvious,” Christie told me. I asked him if he’s received a response to his request. “No, we got nothing back from them,” he said unhappily, “not even a ‘Fuck you.’”

Romney’s Bain Capital invested in companies that moved jobs overseas

Source: Washington Post

..........................

During the nearly 15 years that Romney was actively involved in running Bain, a private equity firm that he founded, it owned companies that were pioneers in the practice of shipping work from the United States to overseas call centers and factories making computer components, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Jobless states: The top 10:?Unemployment rose in 18 states in May, as well as nationally. Fewer jobs were created than in any other month of the past year. Here’s a look at the top 10 states with the highest unemployment rates.

While economists debate whether the massive outsourcing of American jobs over the last generation was inevitable, Romney in recent months has lamented the toll it’s taken on the U.S. economy. He has repeatedly pledged he would protect American employment by getting tough on China.

“They’ve been able to put American businesses out of business and kill American jobs,” he told workers at a Toledo fence factory in February. “If I’m president of the United States, that’s going to end.”

COURT RULES IN CHAMBER’S FAVOR IN EVERY CASE DECIDED SO FAR THIS TERM

DEVELOPING: COURT RULES IN CHAMBER’S FAVOR IN EVERY CASE DECIDED SO FAR THIS TERM

Neil Weare
June 21, 2012
By Neil Weare, Litigation Counsel and Supreme Court Fellow

As we approach the end of the October 2011 Term, it is hard to think about almost anything other than the Court’s impending health care decision. But there is another developing story that has so far been overlooked. Without much fanfare, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is edging towards what could be its first “perfect” Term before the Supreme Court since at least 1994. With today’s decision in Southern Union Company v. United States, the Chamber has declared victory in all seven of its cases that have reached a clear outcome (two are additionally classified as “other” because the Court avoided addressing the issue at stake on procedural grounds, and in one the Chamber filed on behalf of neither party).

This string of seven straight victories brings the Chamber’s overall win/loss rate before the Roberts Court up to 68% (60 of 88 cases). As we have reported in prior studies, this is significantly higher than the Chamber’s success before the Rehnquist Court of 56% (45 of 80 cases), and dramatically higher than its success rate before the Burger Court, when the Chamber only won 43% (15 of 35) of its cases.

This story continues to develop as two of the Chamber’s cases are still pending before the Supreme Court this Term. In the health care case, the Chamber has not taken a position on whether the individual mandate is constitutional, instead arguing only that if the mandate is found unconstitutional, then the Court should strike down the entire Affordable Care Act. In another case, First American Financial Corporation v. Edwards, the Chamber is arguing that violations by banks and title companies of the anti-kickback provision of the federal Real Estate Settlement Services Act should not, by themselves, be sufficient to give homebuyers “standing” to sue violators in court.

We will produce a complete end-of-the-Term report once all the decisions are in, but one thing is clear already: the Chamber is quietly having a very, very good year before the Supreme Court.

Moody’s could downgrade the debt ratings of as many as 15 global investment banks after the closing

Source: CNBC

Moody’s could downgrade the debt ratings of as many as 15 global investment banks after the closing bell today, a move that would cost the banks billions of dollars in extra collateral.

In February, Moody’s announced it would review the ratings of 17 global investment banks and has already downgraded Macquarie and Nomura. In the U.S., the companies that are most likely to be affected by today’s action: Bank of America (BAC 7.82 -0.32 (-3.93%) ), Citigroup (C 27.83 -1.03 (-3.57%) ), Goldman Sachs (GS 93.90 -2.65 (-2.74%) ), JPMorgan (JPM 35.51 -0.94 (-2.58%) ) and Morgan Stanley (MS 13.96 -0.24 (-1.69%) )

Royal Bank of Canada and nine European banks, including Deutsche Bank (DB 35.51 -1.25 (-3.4%) ), BNP Paribas and Credit Suisse (CS 18.57 -0.74 (-3.83%) ) are also on the list.

The current credit actions are part of a comprehensive review of the overall global banking system by Moody’s. In the middle of last month Moody’s downgraded Italian, Spanish, German and Austrian bank credit ratings. The U.S. banks with global capital markets capabilities have had an open dialogue with the ratings company, in an effort to soften the severity of the downgrades.

Sandusky accused by adopted son
Updated: June 21, 2012, 5:11 PM ET
ESPN.com news services

Matt Sandusky, the adopted son of Jerry Sandusky, acknowledged Thursday through his lawyers that he was sexually abused by the former Penn State assistant football coach.

The stunning news came on the same day that a jury began deliberating in Jerry Sandusky's highly controversial child sexual abuse trial.

Matt Sandusky said he met with prosecutors this week and was prepared to testify in the trial.

"Matt Sandusky, one of Jerry Sandusky's adopted children, asked us to confirm with you the accuracy of this morning's news reports indicating that he was prepared to testify truthfully as a Commonwealth witness," attorneys Andrew Shubin and Justine Andronici said in a statement. " During the trial, Matt Sandusky contacted us and requested our advice and assistance in arranging a meeting with prosecutors to disclose for the first time in this case that he is a victim of Jerry Sandusky's abuse."

Matt Sandusky, 33, lived with Jerry and Dottie Sandusky as a foster child before being adopted by the family as an adult, according to The Patriot-News. He had previously denied being abused by his adopted father.

Bingo! We Have a Winner! - Pelosi: Contempt Vote PAYBACK For Holder’s Voter Protection Efforts

Pelosi: Contempt Vote Payback For Holder’s Voter Protection Efforts

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that an effort by House Republicans to pass a resolution finding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress is really about his efforts in opposition to GOP-backed voting laws that Democrats consider forms of voter suppression.

“It’s really important to note how this is connected with some of their other decisions. It is no accident. It is no coincidence that the Attorney General of the United States is the person responsible for making sure that voter suppression does not happen in our country, that issues that relate to the civil liberties of the American people are upheld,” Pelosi said.

“These very same people holding in contempt are part of a nationwide scheme to suppress a vote. They are closely aligned with those who are suffocating the system, special interests, secret money, and they are poisoning the debate. They are poisoning the debate with that money. And so what does the average citizen say? They throw up their hands and they say, a pox on both your houses, and that is a victory for the special interest,” Pelosi continued.

.................

UPDATE:
The connection is clear as day, really.
My hat's off to Nancy Pelosi and Charlie Pierce.

Senator Cornyn dropped the ball, when he mentioned AG Holder and the DOJ involvement in the Florida purge, as one of the reasons he would agree with asking for Holder's resignation.

Cornyn brings up voter supression.
They don't care about the guns, they are mad at Holder for blowing the cover on them stealing the next election.

...Senator John (Box Turtle) Cornyn gave this whole game away a week ago.

"You still resist coming clean about what you knew and when you knew it with regard to Operation Fast and Furious. You won't cooperate with a legitimate Congressional investigation, and you won't hold anyone, including yourself, accountable. Your Department blocks states from implementing attempts to combat voter fraud. In short, you've violated the public trust, in my view, and by failing and refusing to perform the duties of your office," Cornyn said.

That is not a non sequitur. That's a tell.

Breaking Now-Romney STILL A Coward: "President Obama has failed to address immigration reform"

Breaking Now

JOSH MARSHALL JUNE 21, 2012, 11:58 AM 40

We’ve got the first nuggets out of Mitt Romney big immigration speech coming later today. And the gist seems to be that he’s going to duck the question of whether he’s for or against, would keep or change President Obama’s new mini-Dream Act. More soon.

Romney Campaign Billed Meeting Expense At Nightclub - with champagne bar in the bathroom.

The Romney campaign held a meeting at a racy Arizona night club that boasts a "specialty champagne bar in the co-ed bathroom," according to the campaigns latest filing with the Federal Elections Commission.

The filing indicates the campaign spent $385.24 to "The Mint Restaurant and Ultra Lounge" in Scottsdale, Arizona for a meeting expense.

According to the website of the establishment, "The Mint" specializes in making "all types of events imaginable" which include models, dancers, and showgirls along with body painting in a nightclub that calls itself "half restaurant" and "half ultra-lounge."

The club also offers a "specialty champagne bar in the co-ed bathroom." In the marble unisex bathroom, a bartender makes drinks while patrons take "socializing in the bathroom to a new level" according to one review of the club.
