Ronald Reagan: "When MEN Were Free"

Remember When Republicans Said Social Security And Medicare Would Destroy Freedom Too?

"If Medicare passes into law, the consequences will be dire beyond imagining," Reagan said. If opponents failed to scuttle it, he warned, "One of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children, and our children’s children, what it once was like in America when men were free."

Ed Rendell: “Not only can Chris Christie not win-I think he may have trouble finishing out his term”

Rendell: Chris Christie 'not a factor' in 2016 presidential race

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell say Governor Chris Chrisite is a "non-factor" in 2016 presidential race. Jeb Bush is new front runner he says.

“Not only can Chris Christie not win, I think he may have trouble finishing out his term,” Rendell said Tuesday at the Rebovich Institute at Rider University. He added later: “There’s absolutely no chance that he didn’t know this was going on if he didn’t order it or OK it. So I think he’s not a factor.”

“I mean, I look at it from the perspective as a very activist governor, which I was and he is,” he said. “There is no way that eight people in my administration would be part of something and I wouldn’t know about. There is no way they would dare do something like this without getting clearance from me.”

“And besides that, the trashing of David Wildstein and Bridget Kelly indicate that they are setting up a ‘he said, she said’ battle,” Rendell said. “They’ve trashed her. They’ve trashed women with this idea that she was emotionally unstable because she broke up with a man. Heaven forbid that breaking up with a man would make you do something mentally unstable like closing down four lanes of a bridge.”

Eleven Year Old: "...I don't want to be shot today"

Police in Henry County, Ga., reportedly harassed a group of pre-teen boys who were building a tree fort in the woods behind their house after a neighbor called 911 on them (!). According to Omari Grant, the 11-year-old who came forward, two officers, one with his gun drawn, rolled up on him and a few of his friends as they built a fort in the trees behind his home.

"I was thinking that I don't want to be shot today, so I just listened to what they said," Omari said.

Omari said the officer holding his gun also used foul language and made him and his friends lay down on the ground.

...................

The husband of the neighbor who called 911 said police pulling a gun on a child was "shocking," but that his wife called because of "falling hazards, tripping hazards, all types of hazards." His wife's primary concern, he said, "was concern for the children and concern for the environment." So instead of calling her neighbors, or going to warn the children about "hazards," she called police on a group of kids.

Battle of the Billboards: “Christian Taliban” vs. Constitution at Air Force Academy

the cadets of USAFA are completely free to say “so help me God” if they so choose. Our issue is that this important decision should be THEIR clear choice; coercion, bullying, and force shouldn’t play a role in what they choose. But the dominionist Christian American Taliban was never very big on “choice”.

Feds Launch Grand Jury Investigation Into BridgeGate

Source: Talking Points Memo

Federal prosecutors in New Jersey have convened a grand jury to investigate the George Washington Bridge lane closures, ABC News reported on Friday.

Twenty-three grand jurors on Friday heard testimony from Michael Drewniak, press secretary to Gov. Chris Christie (R). Drewniak's attorney, Anthony Iacullo, told ABC News his client was not a target of the investigation.

"I'm not going to get into the specifics as to what would be discussed in the grand jury," Iacullo said. "I would say though that Mike is a witness and we have been assured that he continues to be a witness throughout these proceedings and Mike has continued to cooperate as requested by the government into this inquiry."

In January, the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey confirmed that it was looking into the lane closures, which caused a multi-day traffic jam in Fort Lee, N.J. in September. But as ABC News reports, the existence of the grand jury confirms that the matter has evolved into a criminal investigation. Last week, a legal team representing Christie's office released a report claiming the governor had no role in the closures, and pinning blame for the plot on two former Christie allies: former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey executive David Wildstein and former Christie deputy chief of staff Bridget Kelly.

PAUL RYAN LETS THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG - By Charles P. Pierce

Finally ... finally someone speaking on behalf of the beleaguered insurance industry.

PAUL RYAN LETS THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG
By Charles P. Pierce on April 4, 2014

Paul Ryan, the zombie-eyed granny starver from Wisconsin and First Runner-Up in our most recent Vice Presidential Pageant, apparently will set the kitty free from the burlap during an upcoming interview with Al Hunt on the Bloomberg teevee channel.

The former GOP vice presidential nominee was asked on Bloomberg's "Political Capital with Al Hunt" about whether Republicans would keep provisions like requiring coverage for pre-existing conditions, keeping kids on their parents' insurance until they are 26 years old and barring insurance companies from having different rates for those whose jobs include physical labor. The first two provisions are among the most popular parts of Obamacare, which as a whole is not popular. But Ryan says such provisions would also drive up the cost of insurance too much. "If you look at these kinds of reforms, where they've been tried before - say the state of Kentucky, for example - you basically make it impossible to underwrite insurance," Ryan said, according to an advance transcript. "You dramatically crank up the cost. And you make it hard for people to get affordable health care."

He really doesn't know what he's talking about. He hasn't had to live in the real world away from the government trough for 10 minutes since he entered high school. Biggest fake in American politics.

George W Bush: Vladimir Putin dissed his dog, Barney: "You call it a dog?"

George Bush: Putin Dissed My Dog
By John Amato April 4, 2014 2:22 pm

George Bush appeared on the Today Show Friday Morning, showing off his painting to his daughter Jenna Bush Hager, when he revealed a funny tidbit about an exchange he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin about his pet, Barney.

Bigger, badder, stronger:

When former president George W. Bush unveiled his paintings of world leaders during an interview with daughter Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY Friday, it brought back memories of an encounter with Vladimir Putin that revealed a lot about the character of the Russian president.

“As you know, our dear dog Barney, who had a special place in my heart — Putin dissed him and said, ‘You call it a dog?’’’ Bush told Hager.

He continued: “A year later, your mom and I go to visit and Vladimir says, ‘Would you like to meet my dog?’ Out bounds this huge hound, obviously much bigger than a Scottish terrier, and Putin looks at me and says, ‘Bigger, stronger and faster than Barney.’“I just took it in. I didn’t react. I just said, ‘Wow. Anybody who thinks ‘my dog is bigger than your dog’ is an interesting character.’ And that painting kind of reflects that.”

Can you imagine if Putin had done something like that to President Obama? Rep. Louis Gohmert would be trying to impeach President Obama for making America look weak in the pet face-off. Every hate talk show host on the conservative side would be berating Obama for not having a tougher pet, one that's virile and strong like moose.

Jon Stewart calls ‘bullsh*t’ on court’s election rulings: ‘Justice is blind, but only in one eye’

Jon Stewart calls ‘bullsh*t’ on court’s election rulings: ‘Justice is blind, but only in one eye’

.................

According to an Associated Press report, only 646 donors bumped up against the now-defunct legal maximum contribution limit in 2012.

“McCutcheon doesn’t get more people involved,” Stewart said. “It lets those 646 individuals get themselves more involved.”

He contrasted the court’s loosening of campaign contributions with their tightening of voter ID laws and striking down portions of the Voting Rights Act.

“Justice is blind, but only in one eye,” Stewart said.
