The politician who kissed the staffer fired the staffer. The politician did not fire himself.

The woman, of course, was fired.

.................

Vance McAllister (R-LA) is the freshman Rep caught in that grainy surveillance camera video smooching a member of his staff. According to an interview in the local paper, McAllister says he plans to run for reelection this November “unless there is an outcry for me not to serve, and so far there has been an outpouring of support, not for my actions, but for me to continue to represent the people."

But this part caught my attention ...

The video, which came from a surveillance camera at the congressman’s Monroe district office, shows McAllister in an embrace and passionate kiss with one of his staff.

The former staffer who McAllister is with in the video is Melissa Anne Hixon Peacock, 33, of Sterlington.

Adam Terry, McAllister’s chief of staff, said Peacock was taken off of the payroll during the past 24 hours.

This bible-banger has five kids with the wife he cheated on, and his staffer is married. If he were asked about the same situation on the campaign trail, I’m sure he’d recommend that anyone engaging in such behavior should have their food stamps and Medicaid cut off without recourse, and that the cheater and his harlot descend to their knees and wail to the heavens in vain hope of forgiveness from the one true God and his only son. Instead, he says that he will run again “unless there is an outcry for me not to serve”. He also claims that this is “absolutely” the first time he’s cheated. My guess is that it ain’t but I’m a faithless atheist, so my opinion is of far less value that a God-fearing upright church-going Christian like McAllister

President Carter: "I don't think that George W. Bush won the election in 2000, against Al Gore"

President Jimmy Carter: Bush Didn't Win in 2000

Thom Hartman
"I'm wondering, have we had a legitimately elected Republican president since Dwight Eisenhower?"

Carter chuckles and says he thinks so, but wouldn't want to comment on that, and then sort of backs off the question. Carter does make a point to say:

"I don't think that George W. Bush won the election in 2000, against Al Gore, because I think that he probably lost Florida and also nationwide. But the Supreme Court rules in our country - that's what we have to accept."

Now He Tells Us: McCutcheon Attorney Admits Money Is Not Speech

Dan Backer, the lead lawyer behind a landmark case that further opened the campaign finance floodgates, conceded in an interview with HuffPost Live that money is not, in fact, speech.

..........HuffPost asked Backer why, if money is speech, bribery is illegal. Shouldn't bribery be considered an expression of one's First Amendment rights?

Money quickly transformed in Backer's reasoning. "The court did not say, and really neither does any serious commentator, that money is speech. Money is not speech. Money is a necessary tool to engage in political speech and political association," he said.

Jesse Jackson Jr. Tossed In Solitary After Advising Fellow Prisoners Of Rights

Source: Huffington Post

Jesse Jackson Jr. was locked in solitary confinement after a guard "took exception" to the former congressman advising fellow prisoners of their rights, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Jackson, the son of the civil rights leader, challenged the legitimacy of his detention and was awarded a transfer to a new facility.

He has been moved to a federal prison facility in Alabama following the dispute at the North Carolina prison where he was serving a 30-month sentence for misusing campaign funds.

Family of the ex-Illinois congressman confirmed to ABC Chicago over the weekend that Jackson was transferred to a minimum-security federal prison in Montgomery following disputes at the North Carolina prison that led to Jackson being placed in solitary confinement.

The Bureau of Prisons declined to provide the Chicago Tribune specifics over Jackson's transfer, citing privacy and security reasons.

US Navy 'Game-Changer': Converting Seawater into Fuel

Source: Industry Week

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Navy believes it has finally worked out the solution to a problem that has intrigued scientists for decades: how to take seawater and use it as fuel.

The development of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel is being hailed as "a game-changer" because it would significantly shorten the supply chain, a weak link that makes any force easier to attack.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

U.S. experts have found out how to extract carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas from seawater.

Then, using a catalytic converter, they transformed them into a fuel by a gas-to-liquids process. They hope the fuel will not only be able to power ships, but also planes.

XLNT! Conservatives Are Furious With Harry Reid For Warring With The Kochs

Conservatives Are Furious With Harry Reid For Warring With The Kochs :

Harry Reid's war on the Koch brothers -- the wealthy oil tycoons who are spending millions to defeat Democrats in the 2014 mid-terms -- has sparked an intense backlash from Republicans and prominent conservatives.

The feud has grown acrimonious and personal over the last few weeks, with figures on the right leaping to the defense of the Kochs and even suggesting that the Democratic Senate majority leader is mentally unstable.

Jeb Will NEVER Be President

W is responsible for the complete destruction of Iraq, the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, the deaths of thousands of our troops, the theft of the oil that belongs to the Iraqi people, the torture and maiming of thousands of insurgents that were trying to protect their country and families, leaving the Middle East unstable and violent, etc., etc., etc. Those were not mistakes, those were deliberate acts, the acts of a very evil man. And he doesn't regret a damn thing.

In his recently released memoir Decision Points, George W. Bush admitted that he enthusiastically authorized that certain detainees be waterboarded – or tortured, a crime under domestic and international law. When asked if he would authorize the torture of one detainee, former U.S. president Bush declared “Damn right!” The release of Bush’s memoir coincides with reports that no one will face criminal charges for the destruction of CIA videotapes which contained interrogations using waterboarding.

*******************

Barbara knows that the main reason "W" is no longer vilified is that he is out-of-sight and thus out-of-mind. The Tea Party hates him because he ran up the national debt, and did part D of Medicare. A large fraction of the country despises him for not reacting at all to threats that led to 9/11, for abandoning the Afghan war when we might have finished it off, lying us instead into the Iraq War (costing thousands of lives, limbs and over $1 trillion), for Katrina, for the economic collapse that wiped out trillions of dollars of boomer and X-er wealth, and left millennials without gainful employment. And, that was only the big stuff that we read about.

Oh, and Did I mention The TORTURE REPORT:

The report also says that harsh interrogation was used on many more of the 119 detainees in CIA custody than the 30 that the agency has acknowledged, and that CIA officers used unapproved methods and were not punished, McClatchy's Washington bureau reported. The report also says that the CIA misled the Justice Department and public on how brutal the interrogations really were, McClatchy reported.

After working four straight days, House GOP plans 18-day vacation

Once the House adjourns on Thursday, it’s in recess until April 28, giving members time back home to run for reelection. House GOP leaders have scheduled only 55 more days of legislating (less than two full months in session) for the year prior to Election Day, according to the House calendar issued by Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s office.

"Sharpest Drop In Uninsured Since 2008"---So now will Republicans say Gallup is cooking their books?

Sharp Drop in Uninsured Americans

Gallup: “The uninsured rate dipped to 15.6% in the first quarter of 2014, a 1.5-percentage-point decline from the fourth quarter of 2013. The uninsured rate is now at the lowest level recorded since late 2008.”

“The uninsured rate has been falling since the fourth quarter of 2013, after hitting an all-time high of 18.0% in the third quarter — a sign that Obamacare appears to be accomplishing its goal of increasing the percentage of Americans with health insurance coverage.”

“The uninsured rate for every major demographic group declined in the first quarter of 2014. The uninsured rate for lower-income Americans dropped 3.2 points to 27.5% — the largest decline within any key subgroup — while the uninsured rate for blacks fell 3.3 points to 17.6%. Hispanics remain the subgroup most likely to lack health insurance, with an uninsured rate of 37.0%, though their rate dropped 1.7 points in the first quarter.
