Who is playing politics poorly?

I fear that it is the Democratic establishment. The attacks on the students
attempting to label them anti-semitic, Putin-led dupes, and Hamas-loving idiots
then sending in the riot police do not open dialogues. It is amazingly insane
and totally self- sabotaging. It denies the sincerity of their sacrifices.

They have a legitimate perspective just as the students in 60's. They need to be
heard. You do not have agree with them, to listen to their positions. Otherwise,
they may ask exactly what country are we in and turn their back on the political
process permanently.

Medicare Advantage is a corporate enterprise paid for by taxpayers.

It is just one more form of the corporate profit seeking takeover our health care as are most if not all
Medicaid plans. Profit-based health care will not have good outcome for any of us. It is a business
model that turns the patient into a commodity and makes decisions based on what is best for
the CEO and the stockholders, not you and me.

Sorry, revmclaren

That is horrible. Pretty much makes me cry that someone here would be so vile to you.

I had no intention of reporting you or even alerting the post. I was not following you
around only responding to several of your posts which just happened to be on the. same

We will just have to disagree on who is the victim. As a student of the Middle East for
over four decades, I know this conflict is complicated. Israel has occupied Palestinian
lands with increasing brutality and cruelty while continuing to steal territories
from the Palestinian people while putting over million Palestinians men in prison for resisting
the onslaught.

The 800,000 illegal settlers have added much intensity to this cruelty. Often they destroy
Palestinian homes, harass, and even kill Palestinian farmers and others in an effort to drive
them from their lands under the protection of the IDF These lived experiences continue to
breed increasing anger and resistance throughout the occupied lands

We are in full agreement, that Hamas in all their horrible violent behavior and evil goals of
genocide is the cause of this most recent horrific attack. The people of southern Israel were
the victims of of nightmarish atrocities and all Israelis as well as Jews everywhere feel
endangered by the assault.

Both sides of this conflict have contributed to the increasing spiral of violence and
it is obvious from this terrifying attack by Hamas, that each side must find a non-violent
solution that helps both peoples live in safety and security.

Genocide is a process.

The risk in Gaza is high. With little food and water. almost no medical care. People
are dying for lack of medicine. With 85% of their housing gone. the term
is domicide and the environmental devastation, experts are asking if
Gaza will even be habitable for decades.

100's of thousands of wmen and children are living in makeshift tents of plastic sheeting
which fall apart in the wind. Many have no winter clothes as temperatures drop and the
rainy season is occurring. Raw sewage and uncollected garbage are running in the streets
putting everyone at risk for disease.

Genocide is occurring; it just takes a while.

This is our war and those who oppose it, know that.

We are supplying the bombs and artillery. Our tax dollars
are funding it.

What you are not considering is the many outside forces
that will feed the animosity in the party through social media
that was not present in 1968. Schisms become fractures and
fractures becomes canyons when massaged by those whose
interests are in causing distention within the party.

This is a very dangerous time for Biden and the administration
knows it. (Hence the change in messaging if not in actions) Netanyahu
would just as soon destroy Biden's credibility with his base in hopes
that the Republicans win. Young and many not-so-young Democrats
already were showing dissatisfaction with the President, feeling
he is out of touch with their lives and interests. When over 60%
of the party are against this war, it builds on that narrative that
he is out of touch.

"Conversely, more than six in 10 Democrats (63%), adults younger than 35 (67%), and people of color (64%) disapprove, as do the slight majority of women (52%)."

HIs overall approval has dropped to 37%. Johnson's was at 36% when
he dropped out of the race. Yes there are intimations of 1968 if this
war continues.

I am not accusing Israel of genocide.

I am stating that multiple of ministers of the Israeli government have made shocking statements
that spoke of genocidal intent.

Do not take my word for it, It is Omar Bartov, a professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Brown University,
an Israeli.who is stating it.

From his writing in the NYT Nov 10th:

What I Believe as a Historian of Genocide

My greatest concern watching the Israel-Gaza war unfold is that there is genocidal intent, which can easily tip into genocidal action. On Oct. 7, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Gazans would pay a “huge price” for the actions of Hamas and that the Israel Defense Forces, or I.D.F., would turn parts of Gaza’s densely populated urban centers “into rubble.” On Oct. 28, he added, citing Deuteronomy, “You must remember what Amalek did to you.” As many Israelis know, in revenge for the attack by Amalek, the Bible calls to “kill alike men and women, infants and sucklings.”

The deeply alarming language does not end there. On Oct. 9, Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, said, “We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly,” a statement indicating dehumanization, which has genocidal echoes. The next day, the head of the Israeli Army’s coordinator of government activities in the territories, Maj. Gen. Ghassan Alian, addressed the population of Gaza in Arabic: “Human animals must be treated as such,” he said, adding: “There will be no electricity and no water. There will only be destruction. You wanted hell, you will get hell.”

The same day, retired Maj. Gen. Giora Eiland wrote in the daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, “The State of Israel has no choice but to turn Gaza into a place that is temporarily or permanently impossible to live in.” He added, “Creating a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a necessary means to achieving the goal.” In another article, he wrote that “Gaza will become a place where no human being can exist.” Apparently, no army representative or politician denounced this statement.

I could quote many more"

It is not necessary to keep repeating this obfuscation of a complex crisis.

There are those on DU who agree with you completely and there are those here who are
offended by the simplistic dehumanization of a people's suffering. I doubt that repetition will change any minds.

And yes I truly wish the hostages are released very soon. I have no confidence that would stop the bombing,
starving, and killing, Nor do the million and one-half woman and children huddled in the south and
dodging bombs have any power to hand over the terrorists.

November 5, 2023

I do not speak for these people who are in the streets.

My hope would be that they grieve for the victims of Hamas in Israel, the people who are
trapped in Gaza and the West Bank and all powerless people who suffer everywhere.

Until we can move beyond our tribalism and recognize our common humanity and
capacity to suffer equally, we are doomed to repeat this fearsome drama of death
and destruction into infinity.

November 3, 2023

Do you really believe that this all started on Oct 7th?

You are way too intelligent to buy that line. That is a talking point.

Neither sides cares about the people who are trapped in Gaza.
They both only care about power. Hamas is a destructive force and the
the ultra-right leaders of Israel are as well, but with lots more weapons of war.

How do you call this a war? 2.3 million people starved and dehydrated, many displaced from
their homes trapped in a large pen while an advanced powerful military drops thousands of bombs
on them in three weeks. They have no defense; they have no shelter. They have given up hope.
They ask how is the world letting this happen. They are just waiting to die.

It is up to us, the people of the world to speak for those who are without power
to defend them against the powerful. It is not for us defend the powerful and participate in
the dehumanization of a million helpless children are suffering and who, if they survive,
will never recover from this terror.

October 31, 2023

Israel is systematically making Gaza uninhabitable..

I do not see how or who is willing to rebuild the infrastructure. Most of the homes in northern Gaza.
are gone. Most hospitals are gone. The sewers and water lines destroyed. The roads filled
with rubble. And this is before the ground invasion and the destruction of the bulldozers.
Gaza will be no more.

Your theory about the Arab States may have been true at one time, but is not true now.
Like the rest of the world, the Arab States have abandoned these people. They are busy
making peace and trade deals with Israel. They want the surveillance technologies that
Israel uses to control the Palestinians, to hold on to their power. The world has changed;
and the Arab countries have changed. No one, but radicalized groups like Hamas want
to destroy Israel and that will never happen.

Israel has built a superstructure around the remaining pockets of Palestinians in the West
Bank.allowing hundreds of thousands of illegal settlers to make the Palestinian lives intolerable
while making a two state solution impossible. The ugly truth is the only ones who keep
these people alive are the UN and the NGO's. No one else in leadership positions care a bit
whether they live or die including our government.
