Hurricane Michael aftermath

The remnants of Hurricane Michael roared through our area and left lots of damage in its wake. The husband of our company's owner had 4 feet of water in his office building in Danville. He had furniture floating down the street, employee's cars that were parked on the street had water up to the dashboards, and an old wooden train trestle ended up being dislodged and blocking the entire street. My friend was leaving a doctor's appointment in Roanoke when the area started to flood. Her doctor came out to try to start her car and ended up having to escape out of a window.

Smith Mountain Lake (where I live) has been overwhelmed with runaway boats, barges, and debris. Not so much where I am, but up where the Roanoke River runs from Roanoke. The lake level is high, but Appalachian Electric Power manages it so well. We are never in danger of flooding here due to the design of the dam, spillway, and building code enforcement.

Other than that, today feels like a crisp, fall day which was a nice change from the mugginess that we've endured.

I'm sorry for the loss of life and property so many are dealing with. Hope you are all okay.

Here's one of mine - see if you can help!

ETA it would help if I added the image, no?

If you're phone banking, canvassing, or writing cards (like me!), how's it going?

Better minds than mine - is this scenario a false equivalency for abortion?

I am pro-choice, so I need no convincing regarding keeping abortion safe and legal for anyone who wants one. I was trying to think of a way to come up with a narrative to explain why no one should impose their will upon another person's personal and medical decisions. With a forced pregnancy, you undergo a medical procedure (pre-natal care, birth, aftercare), your body will change, and you may or may not be left with scars.

Here's my scenario: Your child/sibling/parent needs a liver transplant. Now, the liver regenerates so yes, you'll have a medical procedure, your body will change, but it'll turn out more or less how you started, minus some scars. Should you be legally obliged to submit to surgery to keep your loved one alive - even if you don't want to (I know you should not) because you're saving a life?

Please help me shape this or let me know if I'm on the right or wrong track. I'm sure someone smarter than me has figured this out

Will Sen. Harris get a chance to question him?

It's 5:16. I'm listening now. Are they done or on a break?

Thanks to everyone taking the time to fill us in

on what’s happening. It’s very kind.

Kav: I'm in a car with a husband who'd rather not listen

Has Senator Harris questioned him yet?

Yes, I’m reevaluating the 37-year marriage

Hurricane Florence kills 4, including infant, in NC, officials say

(CNN) - At least four people, including a mother and her infant, have died in North Carolina as Hurricane Florence slowly moves through the Carolinas, officials said Friday.

Two people died in Wilmington after a tree fell on their house, the city's police department said.

"WPD can confirm the first two fatalities of Hurricane #Florence in Wilmington. A mother and infant were killed when a tree fell on their house," police tweeted Friday afternoon. "The father was transported to (New Hanover Regional Medical Center) with injuries."

The hospital said it has received three injured patients.
