I find it stunning how many people believe the Oscars are nominated on pure merit
as though there is a perfect criterion to meet to win the Oscars, instead of a very arbitrary and subjective set of criterion. So many people seem to be making the argument that there are no AA's nominated on the pure basis of merit.
Is it more likely that not a single black actor was talented this year, or more likely that they got overlooked because those who nominate them don't recognize black actors as talented unless they play some very specific roles?
I think the answer to that question reveals something important about oneself, and less about the actual value/talent of people of color.
