Ilsa
Ilsa's JournalAnother day go be proud of our President.
I love how he is listening to dozens of people tell their stories as first responders, medical personnel, family of victims. He shakes their hands, offers hugs and hopes they will be blessed and comforted. He has so much heart.
So the drug company Glaxo Smith Klein or Pfizer (or both?) has been pushing
their RSV vaccines for seniors over 60 years old, particularly if they have any form of COPD. Problem is, only Medicare Part D (Advantage) pays for it, as far as I can tell, and I don't have Part D. The vaccine can cost as much as $330 at a pharmacy, doctors' office, or County Health Dept.
I have a supplemental policy, but I haven't found out yet if they cover any or all of it.
Anyone know a way to get the vax cheaply?
Going through a rough time in life has reminded me of
numerous coping mechanisms I've used in thepast to help me not fall completely apart. One of them is that I have to make myself take care of my hygiene, dress neatly, comfortably, and slightly too nice for the activities of the day ahead. When I do this, I feel better about being in public, asserting myself when necessary, and] looking for joy and ways to help others as I "get out of myself." These are days when I'm happier, even when faced with grief. I dress the way I want to feel.
Maybe senators are innately better at dealing with their professional jobs without needing to look a certain way. But I tend to think most people will behave in a more constrained, prepared, formal manner when they are dressed more formally. How often do DUers make comments on the way Rs are dressed, and how it represents their behavior? Like Trump in that tuxedo, it doesn't fit, he doesn't fit, he looks like a slob, he acts like a slob.
I really don't understand why Fetterman can't at least wear a shirt and sport coat and trousers, and why Schumer won't put a time limit on relaxing the code.
I can't get my Android phone back to Mobile view.
I went to My Account and selected "Mobile" for when reading DU on a mobile phone, but it doesn't switch to mobile.
I've restarted my phone.
I've closed the tab and re-opened it.
I've logged out and logged in again. I can't seem to get back to a mobile view of DU. What am I doing wrong?
Suspect in today's shooting in Atlanta is in custody without further
incident.
He found a car with keys in it and took it to Cobb County. GDot cameras played a role in identifying him and led to his capture.
Active shooter in Midtown, Atlanta GA.
Near Northside Medical on West Peachtree. Dozens of police, SWAT are present. At least one person sent to Grady Hospital (leading trauma center in region).
Has anyone watched Season 2 of "The Terror: Infamy"?
The show is an anthology of a generally true event, but told with fiction woven into it, particularly Horror genre.
Season 1 starred Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, Ciaran Hinds, etc as British merchant marines looking for the Northwest Passage in 1845. Their two ships get ice bound, and things start going wrong with everything. A very large, vicious creature appears to be hunting them. There is contact with small groups of "Esquimeaux", including a medicine man type of character.
Season 2 was fantastic. It begins on Terminal Island in 1941 with Japanese immigrants and their American-born children. A young Japanese man, Chester, who attends college has a girlfriend, Luz, from Mexico. When everything goes to hell after 12/7/41, the families are shipped off to various internment camps. Luz follows him to the camp. But trouble seems to always pursue Chester. Trouble is in the form of an ancestral spirit chasing Chester, and sometimes possessing people near him, but frequently killing people who get in the spirit's way. The ten episodes cover the family history and cultural supernatural beliefs of both Japanese and Mexican cultures, and immigration issues as well. George Takei is in it and is one of the producers. Lots of subtitles! I highly recommend this series.
I have to say, I'm not ready.
I'm not ready for 18 months of campaigns, ads, shit showing up in my inbox begging for money several times per day. It's all too soon, too much, too expensive and too much of a distraction from all of the other significant issues. I guess I'll need to stick my head in the sand for awhile.
"The Diplomat" on Netflix
appears to be a limited series, starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell. It was created by Debora Cahn, and covers a crisis appointment of a US ambassador to Great Britain after a British Navy vessel was torpedoed by unknown terrorists in the Persian Gulf. The appointment was not a political gift to a wealthy donor.
The ambassador's husband was an ambassador himself until he was fired. He is supposed to be helping his wife meet the right people, but he keeps acting on his own and creating chaos as MI5 and the CIA try to figure out if the attack was ordered by Iran. Furthermore, the US President is elderly, and the VP is about to be removed from office. POTUS' Chief of Staff is evaluating the new ambassador to be the next VP.
Feels like The West Wing, sort of.
5:27pm EDT on Deadline White House...
They played a Clarence Thomas clip with him saying how much he enjoys RV parks, especially parked at WalMarts, and how he likes regular folks.
Nicolle's reaction (incredulous laugh) is priceless! Should be part of an End-of-Year clip. She's so wonderfully natural and sincere.
