Donald Trump Jr's Probably Racist Campaign Destination: Philadelphia, Mississippi

The Rachel Maddow Show 7/29/16

Rachel Maddow describes the tragic racial history of Philadelphia, Mississippi, the creepily calculated Ronald Reagan campaign stop there in 1980, and the curious visit by Donald Trump, Jr. even though Mississippi is not a risk for Republicans this year.

"Democrats are supposed to be part of the "reality-based community.""

Creative Speculation (Group): About This Group
Statement of Purpose

Discuss conspiracy theories and other highly-speculative topics. Free-thinkers and skeptics are both welcome.
When posting, please be mindful of the DU Terms of Service.

No kooky, extremist, or hate content
Do not promote ridiculous, bigoted, or extreme-fringe conspiracy theories. Do not promote extreme fringe views. Do not reference hate sites or other extremist/fringe sources.

Why we have this rule:
Democrats are supposed to be part of the "reality-based community." Some amount of skepticism toward powerful institutions is healthy and appropriate, but that doesn't mean every paranoid fantasy is true. Posts about mass shootings being "false flag" operations, 9/11 being a controlled demolition, no airplane at the Pentagon, chemtrails, black helicopters, the Illuminati, or other nonsense make us all look like fools. This website may have the word "underground" in our name, but we are not extreme fringe.

EU referendum live: David Cameron resigns as UK shocks the world by voting for Brexit

Source: The Telegraph

Britain has voted to leave the European Union, with the Leave campaign securing around 51.8 per cent of the vote.

David Cameron has resigned as Prime Minister.

While England voted overwhelmingly for Brexit, Scotland and Northern Ireland backed Remain. Statements are expected to be made by Sinn Fein and the SNP later today calling for a breakaway from the Union. London backed Remain but the turnout was lower than expected because of bad weather.

The pound crashed to the lowest level since 1985 as sterling fell below $1.35. Complacency about a Brexit outcome will come clear this morning, as out of hours trading suggests that the FTSE 100 will drop by 8.8pc, or by some 560 points. The fall would be the third worst in history if stocks ended the day down as sharply.

Confessions of a Republican - 1964 Campaign Ad Eerily Relevant to Today's GOP Nomination Race

Learned about this seeing Bill Bogert - the ad's actor - on CNN tonight in an amazing interview.

More info:

Confessions of a Republican: Democrat campaign advert from 1964 is eerily relevant to today's GOP nomination race
Charlie Atkin @charlieatkin18 Thursday 10 March 2016

A US election advert dating back to 1964 has gone viral after bearing uncanny similarities to the current state of America’s Republican Party.

Titled ‘Confessions of a Republican’, an actor, Bill Bogert, can be seen expressing his concerns over election candidate Barry Goldwater, whose conservative views were alienating liberal Republicans.

The most eerie lines sound like they could be lifted straight from the political discussion of today, as Donald Trump becomes ever nearer to being a candidate for the 2016 presidential election.

After declaring himself a lifelong Republican, the actor goes on to say ‘when we come to Senator Goldwater, now it seems to me we're up against a very different kind of a man. This man scares me.’

It's a bad idea to tell another DUer to "piss off" in a post you don't want hidden.

That's often enough reason to Hide for people who discourage incivility here. I'm not sure why you think the Hide voters must have been bernie bros (other than their being a majority, I suppose).

And yes, Hillary did well.
