Behold the Baby Ferret of Forgiveness...
Make sure to forgive someone today, even if it's just yourself.
Although I'm usually comforted by old-timey music YouTube...
And if you know me, and I think that you do, then you know that I love to share my love of that stuff as well. I hope that you love it too whenever I do... In the LOUNGE.
But with so much going on in the Internet, unfortunately, that's not all that's there. Just like everywhere else, there's a dark side as well. Places that I've been avoiding for the most part, because I really don't have a burning need to feed my own many inadequacies. But for those who do, there's plenty of content out there. Clearly, it's a cottage industry, littered with slickly produced vids and narrated by calmly rational sounding hosts, ostensibly in the form of self-help. Clearly, it's a trap though.
Just today, while viewing some non-objectionable personality analysis and self-help vids as a tool for dealing with pathological narcissists like Trump, the suggested videos steered me toward another direction. I soon found myself surrounded by the fodder for RWNJ/Incels and trolls. It was like finding the mother lode... Thank you, wonky algorithm.
In some of these vids, I got a taste of ambient straight white incel male rage, and finding myself greatly disturbed by it. of course. Straight white incel male rage has never been my own struggle, so their messages all became new to me and my nagging curiosity.
For example, there's an entire segment, anchored by that Guru on Incels, Jordan Peterson, that focuses on aggrieved straight white male victimhood. I can only take about 15 seconds of that guy before I have to start watching Led Zep vids again. At least Robert Plant never went about trying to make me feel bad about myself. The ridiculousness of it all would be laughable, if it wasn't so destructive.
Apparently Peterson's entire shtick is justifying and centering the perceived penultimate position of white straight males in the social hierarchy. Social injustice, wealth inequality and LGBQT bashing are all signs of the moral failings of everyone on the short end of the stick. Hours and hours of this guy, pontificating on the lack of necessity, in hip opinion, to make the world more fairer, inclusive and compassionate. The problem isn't the world, according to Peterson, the problem is with you... And those pesky women and gays who are "controlling" your life.
I can see that he's the avatar for all of these angry straight white guys who end up on OTHER YT vids, declaring their "right" to not don a mask in a public place during a freaking global viral pandemic. Despite his resting colonizer face, he's quite a charmer. Snake charmer for white male homophobic trolls that is.
Peterson is clearly a smart man, especially to people looking for an "intellectual" defense for their own prejudices, sprinkled with a heavy helping of self-righteousness, paranoia and anger. There were other vids claiming to show successful techniques for debating "liberals," "feminists" and people who want to be addressed by their own preferred gender pronouns. (Icky!) Alpha male Central, baby.
Needless to say it's a lot of poison for young, impressionable, white male minds, who have very little experience in navigating diverse circles. Given the recent need to socially distance ourselves, I can't but help to fear the immediate impact of a large segment of the population sequestered at home, ingesting mile-upon-mile of this bullshit.
We clearly have a large problem here. Frankly, instead of watching this stuff on YouTube, I can't but help to think that these enraged white males straight incels would be much better adjusting if all they watched were PornHub instead. At least waxing the ol' eggplant from time to time has more positive outcomes.
Now back to more Led Zep!
