MSNBC capitulates to Priebus..

RNC bans staff from MSNBC barring apology from boss

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus isn’t at all pleased about what MSNBC put on Twitter last night. As discussed here, the network made note of an ad for Cheerios featuring a biracial family. It wrote up a story on it and promoted it with this tweet:

Citing that tweet, Priebus today declared that he had banned “all RNC staff from appearing on, or booking any RNC surrogates on MSNBC.” He communicated the ban in a letter to MSNBC President Phil Griffin and insisted that it would remain in place until Griffin “personally and publicly apologize[s] for this behavior.” He also wrote a memo to “all Republican elected officials, strategists, surrogates, and pundits” asking them to join in the MSNBC freeze-out.Sean Spicer, the RNC’s communications director, told the Erik Wemple Blog that already a “handful of folks” have gotten in touch to express their solidarity with the ban. As for the insistence that Griffin come out with a public apology, Spicer argues, “He needs to accept responsibility as CEO for the inappropriate behavior of the people who work for him.”

According to Spicer, MSNBC has expressed a willingness to get Griffin on the phone with the RNC. “They’re trying to set something up for the afternoon,” says Spicer. Yet, as the RNC’s missives on the matter make clear, the ban won’t end by virtue of a private phone conversation.

MEMORANDUM

FROM: RNC Chairman Reince Priebus
TO: All Republican Elected Officials, Strategists, Surrogates, and Pundits
RE: Until MSNBC’s Phil Griffin Apologizes…

Last night, MSNBC sent out a tweet that read as follows.

[Tweet not available]

While we understand MSNBC will go to great lengths to discredit Republicans and conservatives, this kind of attack on the millions of Americans who identify with the political right is offensive and unacceptable.

This morning I left a message with MSNBC President Phil Griffin to express my displeasure. I have sent him a letter demanding that he personally, as president of the network, take responsibility and apologize for the disgusting tweet. Until he takes internal corrective action and personally apologizes — not just to the RNC but to all right-of-center Americans — I’m banning all RNC staff from appearing on, associating with, or booking any RNC surrogates on MSNBC.

MSNBC hosts — including Alec Baldwin, Martin Bashir, Melissa Harris-Perry, Alex Wagner, and Ronan Farrow just to name a few — have had a troubling streak in the last several weeks of making comments that belittle and demean Americans without furthering any thoughtful dialogue. Perhaps it’s time for the executives at MSNBC to consider whether their network is upholding a meaningful journalistic mission. This is more than just a tweet or an offhand comment. This is part of a pattern of behavior that has gotten markedly worse, and until Phil Griffin personally apologizes and takes corrective action, we cannot be part of this network’s toxic programming.

Federal authorities 'looking into' allegations about Turtleman

DAMMIT!!

I was hoping someone in KY had a sense of humor, and this story was about "you-know-who"..but it isn't..

It;s about THIS guy....................

he Turtleman might be in some hot, murky water.

Kentucky icon Ernie Brown Jr., aka "Turtleman" and the star of Animal Planet's television reality show Call of the Wildman, is under scrutiny from federal and state officials after a critical report in Mother Jones magazine.

The article, published Tuesday at Motherjones.com, accuses Brown's show of setting up situations for Brown to "rescue" animals, sometimes to the detriment of the animals involved. According to Mother Jones' report, a baby raccoon in Kentucky and bats in Texas died after being used on the show.

"When you're filming, in TV nothing is necessarily perfect, and filming with animals is even more unpredictable," Patricia Kollappallil, senior vice president of communications for Animal Planet, told the Herald-Leader. "You do everything you can to make sure those conditions are as safe for the people and the animals involved. For Animal Planet, the animals are our main priority."

Sen. Rand Paul spoke to Commerce Lexington at a luncheon on Thursday.

During a Lexington luncheon Thursday, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul discussed the possibility of cutting government benefits for unwed mothers who have multiple children, though the potential Republican candidate for president in 2016 didn't directly endorse such a policy.

During a question-and-answer period following his remarks at a Commerce Lexington luncheon, Paul responded to a question about workforce development by including a warning about unwed young mothers doomed to poverty. Although he said the job of preventing unplanned or unwanted pregnancies should be left to communities and families, Paul left open the possibility of a role for government.

"Maybe we have to say 'enough's enough, you shouldn't be having kids after a certain amount,'" Paul told the business group at one point.

An aide to Paul declined to comment Thursday night when asked to clarify the senator's statements about unwed mothers.

Paul told the audience that being "married with kids versus unmarried with kids is the difference between living in poverty and not." "We should sell that message," Paul said. "Not in a mean way to tell people who already have made a bad decision, but if you've had one child and you're not married, you shouldn't have another one."

Entire family of Kim Jong Un's uncle executed

I guess that eliminates the issue of revenge

http://tvnz.co.nz/world-news/entire-family-kim-jong-un-s-uncle-executed-reports-5810665

There have been more deaths in North Korea following the execution of an uncle of leader Kim Jong Un who was accused of betrayal.

Jang Song Thaek was executed by the regime in December.

Now his entire family, including children, are reported to have been killed.

Jang Song Thaek was a close adviser and mentor to the young leader, but was reportedly executed for considering a military coup. The Yonhap News Agency reports multiple sources said all relatives of Jang Song Thaek, including children and North Korea's ambassadors to Cuba and Malaysia, have been put to death at the leader's instruction. The executed relatives include Jang's sister Jang Kye-sun, her husband and Ambassador to Cuba Jon Yong-jin, and Ambassador to Malaysia Jang Yong-chol, who is a nephew of Jang, as well as his two sons, the sources said.

All of them were recalled to Pyongyang in early December and executed, they said. The sons, daughters and even grandchildren of Jang's two brothers were all executed, they said. It was unclear exactly when they were killed, but they are believed to have been put to death after Jang's death on December 12.

"Some relatives were shot to death by pistol in front of other people if they resisted while being dragged out of their apartment homes," another source said.

School ditches rules and loses bullies (New Zealand)

http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/school-ditches-rules-and-loses-bullies-5807957

Ripping up the playground rulebook is having incredible effects on children at an Auckland school.

Chaos may reign at Swanson Primary School with children climbing trees, riding skateboards and playing bullrush during playtime, but surprisingly the students don't cause bedlam, the principal says. The school is actually seeing a drop in bullying, serious injuries and vandalism, while concentration levels in class are increasing. Principal Bruce McLachlan rid the school of playtime rules as part of a successful university experiment.

"We want kids to be safe and to look after them, but we end up wrapping them in cotton wool when in fact they should be able to fall over."

Letting children test themselves on a scooter during playtime could make them more aware of the dangers when getting behind the wheel of a car in high school, he said. "When you look at our playground it looks chaotic. From an adult's perspective, it looks like kids might get hurt, but they don't."

snip

However, the school took the experiment a step further by abandoning the rules completely, much to the horror of some teachers at the time, he said. When the university study wrapped up at the end of last year the school and researchers were amazed by the results. Mudslides, skateboarding, bullrush and tree climbing kept the children so occupied the school no longer needed a timeout area or as many teachers on patrol. Instead of a playground, children used their imagination to play in a "loose parts pit" which contained junk such as wood, tyres and an old fire hose.

"The kids were motivated, busy and engaged. In my experience, the time children get into trouble is when they are not busy, motivated and engaged. It's during that time they bully other kids, graffiti or wreck things around the school." Parents were happy too because their children were happy, he said.
