And, Tennesseean, it is not only Tennesseeans or Southerners who make this mistake. I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and I heard it there sometimes. And I heard it when I lived in small towns throughout Illinois. There are people everywhere who think they have done their duty when they tell a suffering person, "God bless you, may you keep warm and eat well." The apostle James mentions someone who only said this prayer to a suffering person, BUT the apostle James reacted to these words the same way Trae Crowder's girlfriend did when she heard them: "What good is it if you find a person who has a desperate need and only say words like these, if you don't give them what they need? Faith without actions is dead faith." (Book of James, chapter 2 verses 15-17)
