(3,477 posts)I appreciate the argument here, and under normal circumstances I think it would be valid.
However, the problem here is that the packed right-wing SCOTUS has already shown its cards -- they're in the bag for Trump, and are already in the process of engineering a "procedural delay" that will effectively prevent the DC case from reaching trial in this now-opened window.
The reason Cannon isn't blocking the next date out is *because she no longer has to*. The rigged SCOTUS has now fully blocked the DC case out for her. Expect that to be formalized in the next 6 weeks (although technically, they could probably stretch it out as far as October ... which I wouldn't put past them).
The only real wildcard is the Georgia case, and Republicans down there are already well into their plot to have Willis removed by an "independent commission" (handpicked by Kemp). It may or may not work, but the fact that Judge McAffee very publicly indulged the defendants' *massive* trolling through Willis' personal life is a huge give-away, imho. They're terrified of the process looking *too* illegitimate, so they're playing it out very slowly and carefully. But make no mistake, that's where they're going. And when it looks like that trial will actually start moving again, they're going to make their move.
Long story short, Cannon's corruption isn't a win -- she's pulled every crooked move she can. And although she may be the most flamingly obvious (by far), she still has plenty of corrupt company.

(208,173 posts)It boggles the mind that those most responsible for supporting the rule of law in this country are as good as overlooking the criminal behavior of potential presidential candidate who has no intention of following the law and has attempted to overthrow democracy.

(3,477 posts)I'm a huge supporter of MeidasTouch, they generally do a great job (especially Michael Popok, whose analysis is almost always superb). But I think in this case they missed the mark a little, although I do appreciate the case they're making here.
Now, if Jack Smith finally decides to try to get Cannon removed from the case, then I'll start popping the champagne ...

(208,173 posts)And we have since seen all the pressing reasons.
And Michael Popok is my favorite as well, he explains the legal issues thoroughly and clearly so that even I can understand them.
