at the SOTU was the head of a group called "Ukrainians of Colorado." The choice of SOTU guests is one more way that legisators can use their voices and make points.

I have family in Colorado and my cousin is freaked out at the possibility of Boebert running in her district.

3. I'll be interested to hear your cousin's response to Ken Buck quitting early

(which would mean a special election which Boebert would have to give up her House seat now in order to run in - assumingshe isn't already too late to run in it.)

4. That's what my cousin is freaked out about, his retirement means the seat is open and Boebert wants to run in CO-4

And I suffered the same fate here in New York. Bill Owens was a long time incumbent moderate Democrat here in NY-21. But when he retired and the seat became open, that's how we ended up with Stefanik.

5. Was there a special election in New York when Owens retired?

If Boebert wants to run in the special election for D-4, she will have to give up her seat in D-3, and there will be a special election in D-3, which Adam Frisch would have a good chance of winning. If my math is correct, that would make the House D to R ratio 50-50.

If Boebert doesn't run in the Special Election, her chances of winning D-4 decrease dramatically, as she would then be running against an incumbent.

I'm not saying she has no chance, but she definitely has an uphill battle, made more so by Buck's retirement. Tell your cousin to take a deep breath. It's true that D-4 is our reddest district, redder even than my district, D-5. But this is not going to be a shoe-in for Bobo.

7. No, he retired at the end of his previous term, so we had 2 candidates in the general election

I went to the local meet up when Bill Owens introduced his chosen successor and I like him a lot, made GOTV calls for him. But his Republican opposition was Stefanik and she inexplicably won.

And thanks for the information about Boebert! My cousin is freaked out enough about TFG, so the possibility of Boebert was the last straw.

and I won't tell you to send it to your cousin without watching it forst .. but you may want to after you see it. I think I have a handle on what Buck might think is funny (based on a comment he made while he was runnung for Governor over a decade ago) but it was just one comment and I could be wrong - I do think he might find fun in this.

But it's good news that Boebert faces an uphill battle just to be qualified to run. hi:

that Bucl's leaving early is specifically a slap at Boebert, designed to reduce her chances -I have never like Buck but lately he has done a few things which make me think that he does have some notion of representing his district - and this may be one of them.
