I'm at a loss for words. Did this really happen?

?s=20

Imagine if Biden said “walkin’ around the hood” and then did that impression.

It would be a scandal for days.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

There was a black guy that walked through the apartment complex at 6 a.m. where I lived with a boom box at loud volume. He did it for three or four days before it finally stopped. I guess that someone else got upset about it and told the young man to hold down the noise. No not really... I think it's just a simple matter of some people having higher moral and ethical standards than others. That's all. Nothing is "amok" about it.

Why do some people feel they must express outrage on behalf of other people?
I think the more relevant question is: Why do some people feel that the outrage being expressed "on behalf of other people," and not on behalf of those expressing it in the first place?

I didn't say the laughter in and of itself meant it was fine...but, personally, I hear genuine laughter there, not a kind that could alternately be interpreted as possibly "uncomfortable" or "forced" laughter. That's why my earlier comment was that it sounded genuine to me. The type of laughter does matter, I think we agree on that.

Maybe someone will find out where this was and ask them, so people don't have to assume anything. But if they weren't offended, my opinion is there's no reason to be offended on their behalf.

But even you weren't sure. In post # 2, you hadn't made up your mind, asking, "Is that racist? Looks racist to me. Is it?" Yet by post #18, it changed to "I know what I saw. It was racist." What happened in the interim to convince you?

re:

I think it's just a simple matter of some people having higher moral and ethical standards than others. That's all. Nothing is "amok" about it.

Unnecessary personal insult noted.

re:

I think the more relevant question is: Why do some people feel that the outrage being expressed "on behalf of other people," and not on behalf of those expressing it in the first place?

Maybe it's too early in the morning, but I'm not quite getting the point there.

I was convinced from the beginning. It was a query intended to be a "conversation starter". Get it?

but, personally, I hear genuine laughter there,
I guess people hear what they want to hear, if they are unwilling to look beyond the superficial "laugh-track of life" that lets people get through the day without conflict. Whatever.

Unnecessary personal insult noted.
Oh please. GMAFB. No insult. I'm pointing out an obvious difference. I'm less tolerant than other people are when it comes to matters of this nature.

But if they weren't offended, my opinion is there's no reason to be offended on their behalf.
Only on my own behalf, thank you very much. Why presume otherwise? Hmm?

but I'm not quite getting the point there.
The outrage I'm expressing isn't "on behalf of other people" it's on behalf of myself. Get it now? No? Have another cup of coffee.

re:

So it wasn't a real question you were asking, got it. Though I don't know why you would expect everyone to read it that way. "Is that racist? Looks racist to me. Is it?" which was the entirety of the message reads like a legitimate inquiry to me. So I don't see where the dismissive "get-it?/eyeroll" was called for.

re:
I guess people hear what they want to hear

I guess I'm surprised the laughter doesn't sound as spontaneous and genuine to you as it does to me, but, yeah, we agree, I guess people hear what they want to hear! That said, I'll also grant the possibility that there were a good number of people in the room, and we're hearing only the laughter of a few who were genuinely amused, while not hearing the others who were silent or laughing only minimally/politely.

re:
The outrage I'm expressing isn't "on behalf of other people" it's on behalf of myself. Get it now? No? Have another cup of coffee.

Again, uncalled for snark. But at least your explanation here makes sense. Your original version was a bit of word salad, as it was not actually a grammatical sentence, though it probbly made sense if you already knew what you were trying to say.

Anyway, back to the point, I'd put forth that it is not as clearly offensive as you seem to think it is, even if only on the basis of the sheer number of people here who have disagreed with your viewpoint (and no, they are not all Sanders supporters). I'd be surprised if wider dissemination of this clip would actually drive down his AA support. I think it's just another anti-Bernie pointless distraction, which will not contribute to changing anyone's mind about him one way or the other.

It was a real question. Of course it was. It was simply that you interpreted its purpose incorrectly. Don't blame me.

Though I don't know why you would expect everyone to read it that way.
And I don't know why you wouldn't. Oh well. Why is it so important to you. Why are you fixated on that one element? Do you think that there's some advantage to be gained by hyper-parsing my words and phrases in the hopes of discovering some deep and dark and nefarious hidden meanings or intentions? GMAFB, would ya?

Again, uncalled for snark
No snark. Hey, you're the one who first mentioned that "Maybe it's too early in the morning" for you. I'm simply going along with your own self-assessment. And for that you snap at me? Thanks a lot! I don't deserve that.

our original version was a bit of word salad, as it was not actually a grammatical sentence,
No need to insult my intelligence like that. Uncalled for snark! (Oh me! Oh my! How dare you? I'm very delicate! You're hurting my feelings!)

I'd be surprised if wider dissemination of this clip would actually drive down his AA support.
I wouldn't. Not among the "hard core" supporters and defenders, however.

I think it's just another anti-Bernie pointless distraction,

re:

It was a real question. Of course it was.

Well sure, to the extent that it ended with a question mark, it was a real question. But the point is you weren't really asking if it was racist, which is what I thought you were asking (because literally, that was the question you typed). In fact, as you've later explained, you'd already decided that it definitely was racist. But that was not clear in reading that original post #2. Certainly not to me, anyway.

re:
No need to insult my intelligence like that.

There was no insult to your intelligence there. Literally, it was an ungrammatical sentence, which is why I had a hard time understanding it until you explained. Pointing out that a sentence didn't actually make sense as typed is not an insult to someone's intelligence.

Of course I was. Take it at face value or not. It's no skin off my nose if you want to believe me or not. I suppose it's easier for someone to get bogged down in these types hair-splitting, imagined intent, grammar, and other forms of irrelevant hyper-analysis as a way to distract from that which they'd rather not talk about in the first place. Those efforts did not go unnoticed by me.

There was no insult to your intelligence there.
I know. Of course not! I was making fun of the times I was accused of unnecessary snark. Whoosh!

It was a stereotype for a reason. It has been featured in countless movies over the years based in the era.

Hell, I live in East Bay SF. Do you know how many black people I see now with portable speakers in parks and in the baskets on their bikes, blaring whatever for all the public to hear?

Countless. I just don’t care. Seems a cultural thing (and I’m sure someone can enlighten me about how that became a thing). I walk home from from work and read in a park for an hour a day. Black patrons found a plug in a light poll and play their speaker all day. So what?

Bernie was funning. And all the usual haters are, “So offensive!” No one’s offended. Just you pretending to be.

BS was talking about what he thinks Castro's revolution brought to Cuba in 1959.

President Obama was talking about the post 2014 strides that Cuba had made as part of the negotiated
pre-conditions for normalizing US-Cuba relations. Cuba had to meet benchmarks during the gradual process of moving towards normalization.

President Obama made the remarks at a joint press conference in Cuba in March 2016.

Amazes me how hard anti-bernie people work on this site to try and hurt him. They will drop any and all logic in anything they say just to justify their hate of him, they’ll pick at the smallest of things and try to amplify them out of desperation.

Every time I look at democratic primaries page it is always full of some sort of anti-Bernie screed or some kind of faux outrage at the smallest of things to try and described it him.
The entire front page is basically an anti-Bernie rage and the most heavily commented threads are always anti-Bernie.
For someone who has the most support out in the real word which makes him the front runner, it’s funny how DU heavily skews to being against him, if that’s not our of touch I don’t know what is.

I go out into the real world and I see excitement and passion and a whole lot of support for Bernie and his ideas, after all that’s what makes him officially the front runner.
And then I come in DU and read and the heavy relentless anti-Bernie people here who spam the board with anti-Bernie propaganda all day long make me wish I never found this echo chamber of a place.

I’m not asking for more attacks against other candidates but ffs, it’s nothing but attacks on Bernie around here mixed in with a few threads attacking other candidates.

Anyway, thank god I live in the real world and see what’s actually happening out there, I encourage others to do the same rather than let your world view be influenced by an echo chamber that does nothing but strengthen any outrage the echo chamber instilled in you to begin with

I like all our candidates, and it’s amazes me why DU isn’t full of posters advancing their own candidates and their policies instead of devoting every post of theirs to actually attacking someone else’s candidate.

Instead of looking for outrage in every little thing, advance your own candidate.

After all, for all those here that Hyperventilate about sanders being unelectable in the general, how are you helping your candidate be electable if you won’t even sell him to the public.

I’ve been reading it for years and years, it actually a good place to get news and usually the discussion is nuanced in regards to other topics.

But when it come to the primaries it’s nothing but a anti-Bernie echo chamber.

Want to know why Bernie is a clear front runner now when most of DU and even the media discounted him a while back?

Because Bernie supporters are mostly focused on promoting his policies and positions while DU shows us that other candidate supporters are only focused on ‘never bernie’ agenda.

If you all actually put more effort into pushing and promoting your own candidates policies etc, then the race would be much closer.

Deny it all you want, but Bernie wouldn’t be the front runner ahead in most polls and delegates if the real world wasn’t different to the echo chamber of anti-Bernie DU.

This is the stuff I was talking about in regards to this anti-Bernie echo chamber, you just disregard any facts and logic and continue to contribute to making this place an echo chamber instead of understanding that you make not like Bernie but more people like him than do not.

Same with general election polls, the only indication we have of what will happen in the GE is polls of people saying what their future intentions of voting will be, nothing else can predict what will happen, and even if polls aren’t always correct they are still the only indication we have of people voting intentions.
Yet people here will continue to argue that Bernie is unelectable even when polls show him doing as well or better than all other candidates.

So either accept polls completely or don’t, but don’t argue a position based on something that you have no more proof of than the polls have proof.

Fact are what’s decided what the real world is.

Bernie has highest approval rating of any democratic candidate, heck he is right up in the upper echelons of the most liked politicians in the country, so that tells me that majority people like him in real world and majority hate him here.

Election results so far and polls of future states are facts that show the majority of the democratic real word agrees with Bernie more than any other candidate right now, yet here on DU it is nothing but attacking him.

Ask yourself, how can a candidate being in front, have the highest favorability of all other candidates in the race, and yet DU be reflective of the real word when it does nothing but try and paint him as a devil?

Whether you like it or not, Bernie is ahead in delegates and votes right now, he is also ahead in most polling even if polls can sometimes be wrong.

There is a reason he is officially the democratic front runner at the moment, and it’s because the facts back that up.

Now you can continue to live inside your little echo chamber and believe what you want, but’s what’s not in dispute is that Bernie is currently leading in the democratic world and that’s shows the the real world is not as anti-Bernie as this place has become. Hence an echo chamber.

His campaign dismissed Clinton’s contention that Sanders had presented himself as potentially better than Obama on race relations. Sanders was asked if race relations would be better under a Sanders administration than they had been. The senator said, “Absolutely, because what we will do is say, instead of giving tax breaks to billionaires, we are going to create millions of jobs for low-income kids so they’re not hanging out on street corners. We’re going to make sure that those kids stay in school or are able to get a college education.”
