Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI'm supporting Warren but Klobuchar is impressing me!
I've seen her on some TV interviews. She does very well. She is "midwestern nice" but has an inner toughness that appeals to me.
I'd like to know more. I understand she had a former employee who had job issues with her and I'd like to know more about that.
As with every Dem candidate I am looking at her in a debate situation with Trump. If she gets that far, I wonder what derisive nickname he'll try to hang on her and how he'd attack her.
Amy strikes me as having a cool hand but comes from strength...

(7,575 posts)I will be Biden with either a woman like Klobuchar or a man of color or even Mayor Pete as VP candidate. Maybe even Stacey who is dynamite! I will be so glad when our ticket is established so all DUers are on the same page for a change and not arguing with each other,

But don't kid yourself she is a shark.

There are 8 candidates I would be more than happy to vote for in a GE and she's one of them.

(1,086 posts)is not uncommon. They both have some attributes in common. Warren tends to be more of an architect and Klobuchar a builder. The difference is more in working with the materials at hand then designing new solutions. I can see the attraction in both views.
I would say former employee's. it is an interesting case in management styles. Amy came out of Big Law, she had an extremely stable tenure as county prosecutor slightly less then normal turn over. In the Senate she has had one of the top turnovers from the beginning. I do know several former staffers and the overall consensus is that they just burn out. It was the pace more then anything and the Washington staff was much more effected then the home state or campaign staffs.
It is also interesting that the turn over statistics seem to indicate a gender component. I note that in one of her years seven of the top 10 in turnover were woman.
Also she gets poached more then most out of a staff of 30 the Obama administration grabbed 33.
Given the campaign and the lack of staff stories associated with it that she is intense but fair. That she has a temper but only lets it out when she feels safe with friends.
As far as Trump goes, it is interesting to look at how She and Harris question in the committee. Harris aggressively points out you are a fool, Klobuchar lets them do it themselves. I actually think Amy's way is better with Trump.

(1,086 posts)Indeed the most likely to do that although several can.
But what she is even more likely to do is bring others along. Interesting factoid not only is she always the top vote getter statewide, not only has she won every congressional district each time, but every time she has run at least one of the state chambers flipped to Team D.
The Nomination perhaps not.

She now falls behind Buttigieg and Booker in my rankings. One reason that I have downgraded her is because of her gratuitous (IMO) snipes against Warren.
She is very smart, IMO, and a hard worker. But she makes me have to grit my teeth.

(63,912 posts)I must say I've been quite upset of late over the mfa fallout that is more than likely later in the campaign if Warren is our candidate. I am not happy about how that is being handled. I think it was left too vague.
Bottom line, we have to win in 2020 and get this orange menace out of the WH. Period.

But it isn't enough! I don't want the "same-old same-old" when Dems win, because we simply cannot afford to let the criminals keep getting away with their crimes. We keep trying to be the better persons and move forward, but GOPers just see us as suckers for doing so and keep on with their nastiness.
That happened after Iran-Contra; it happened after Guantanamo and torture; it happened after our financial system nearly fell apart in 2008 ... and the real culprits never paid the price. They just slithered into their holes for awhile and came out again when they thought it was safe with 45.
The corruption has GOT to be dug out by its roots.
As it is now, even if we win the Presidency and even if we are miraculously able to have both a Dem House and Senate, we must literally rebuild most of our our institutions from the bottom up again. What credibility and influence we have lost on the international playing field will take generations to claw back. And it may be too late for us ALL wrt climate change.

Any Democratic candidate who does NOT realize this will NOT be the candidate that we need.

(63,912 posts)I am sick and tired of the "too far left" meme that the media is trying to put over on us! IMO, and to my great dismay, Warren didn't have a powerful rejoinder on mfa. It was not strong enough to satisfy the media so back we go again to the "too left" business.
I know. I want a "bullet proof" woman candidate. Yeah, I do. Or at least one who's not gonna get the "socialism" label hung around her neck. Our necks. I'm tired of "explaining." And the "undecideds" aren't gonna buy it because the repukes will twist the explanation any way they want to.
We gotta win the election before we can do anything about health care or the environment or safeguarding a woman's right to choose.

(1,086 posts)Between the two. They have been going at each other for years, in a friendly way more or less.
Amy points out the political weaknesses in Warren's plans and Warren chides Klobuchar for not pushing even harder.
The back and forth they have had over anti-trust over the last couple of years is fascinating.
These two are well suited for each other. To be honest I see Warren as Klobuchar's Frances Perkins.

(31,823 posts)Trump will debate our Candidate. So that's not a scenario in play for me. 45 is too are and it will play to his base.
Personally? I love her. She's tough as nails and has very little tolerance for nonsense.
And so what if she was "mean" to employees? Men are mean all of the time and no calls it mean . . . It's called Leadership.

(1,701 posts)She could help the ticket win, especially in the Northern-Central swing states.
She could help get legislation pushed through Congress (and has one of the best records for doing so as a Senator).
And she'd make a great loyal partner for Joe Biden.
I've long thought Biden would want someone to serve as VP who was "his Biden" to President Obama. A real team-mate with a close personal connection.
No one fits the bill better than Amy Klobachar to my way of thinking
