... because he believes Joe is not going to be the winning candidate, so that seems not good for the Biden campaign. However, a more thoughtful analysis would have Bloomberg entering the race to oppose Elizabeth (or Bernie); this would be good for Joe...

I think that's it. And it moves the conversation to where Elizabeth wants it as well. Interesting times.

...because it gives anti Warren/Sanders voters one more way to split those votes. Bloomberg is not going to get any Warren or Sanders supporters, but he could conceivably get some anti-Warren anti-Sanders voters who might otherwise have gone to Biden.

So maybe Bloomberg only fully enters the race if he thinks that he has a better chance of winning against Warren/Sanders than Biden does.

There IS a way Bloomberg could help Joe and hurt Warren/Sanders if he wanted to... he could finance an anti-Warren, anti-Sanders PAC. That we he could still spend unlimited money knocking out the candidates he doesn't like, but since he wouldn't be promoting his own candidacy, he wouldn't be stealing votes from (splitting votes with) other "moderate" candidates like Biden. Joe is probably the best positioned to benefit from that strategy. But for that, Bloomberg would have to believe that, with a weakened Warren/Sanders, Biden would be a stronger candidate that Mike himself... and he may not be inclined to believe that.

I think this common view is probably right: it's not just about beating Warren... it's that Bloomberg really would love to be president, and if he sees a path that is viable, he'll take it. There's no support of Joe in this maneuver.

primary today, I would vote for:
