Pete Buttigieg Delivers Epic Answer When Asked if 'Religious Liberty' Should Be Used to Deny Service

Pete Buttigieg Delivers Epic Answer When Asked if ‘Religious Liberty’ Should Be Used to Deny Service to LGBTQ People

Pete Buttigieg has the definitive answer to those who think their religious liberty takes priority over equality for LGBTQ people in America.

Buttigieg, one of nine top Democratic presidential candidates to participate in Thursday evening’s HRC Equality Town Hall on CNN, was asked if he thinks people should be able to deny service to LGBTQ people based on so-called religious liberty.

Or, as business owner and audience member Andrew Beaudoin asked, “As a Christian, can you point to any teachings in faith which state things like, ‘Thou shalt not serve the gays meatloaf in diner?’”

The South Bend, Indiana mayor who is currently ranked in fourth place, offered this balanced response.

A famous justice once said, ‘My right to swing my fist ends where somebody else’s nose begins.’ And the right to religious freedom ends where religion is being used as an excuse to harm other people,” Buttigieg said strongly, to great applause.

Wow.. "Pete's in 4th place"!

Whatever anyone around here's feelings about Pete's chances to win the nomination, I think we can all agree he's a great leader and would make a wonderful President.

Pete is a rising star in our party.
Hopefully, he has shown other LGBTQ people that have thought about politics that they should get involved. He gives them a great role model for how to do handle things.

The good mayor is so smart, so skilled, so persuasive, I could find it difficult to believe what he says, were it not for the terrific man he married, and who married him.

How you worship -- what prayers you say, what services you attend, what holy days you observe -- are completely separate from how you treat others. Which should always be with dignity and respect.

He would be an excellent VP pick if EW can win the nomination.

Would help balance the ticket with his "midwest" tag, would bring military experience.

And, both are top of the line intellects with their own unique style of plain speaking.

Would put him in a great spot to make a run after her.
