Democratic Primaries

Well, shit, ORourke responded, hours later, tearing into candidates he said are triangulating, poll-testing, focus-group driving their response, adding that Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell pretending to be interested in something that is literally a life-or-death issue
is simply not enough.

I originally thought the media was being unfair with Beto by suggesting that he was trying to revive his campaign by cussing. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that his dropping the "f bomb" in connection with the mass shootings was organic and unplanned. But now that he keeps on doing it, it's pretty clear that the media was correct.
Beto is in danger of becoming a meme candidate at this point. Not because of his policy positions, but because this apparent strategy of his of dropping in a cuss word into his policy discussions is a transparent and sad ploy for attention. I had really hoped for better from him.

(14,487 posts)He cursed occasionally during his senate campaign also. I don't give a shit if he cusses. He is not my candidate of choice this go-round (though I was fully on-board for his last campaign), so he should be his authentic self, IMO. If that means cussing, fucking go for it!

(7,277 posts)think of the children bleeding to death from the injuries caused high velocity ammunition, because the ambulance services are overwhelmed by the sheer number of wounded.
What kind of triangulated, poll-tested, focus-group driven language is appropriate here? What words suffice when MAGAts want your children to grow up without a daddy?
When it comes to gun violence, Beto can fucking tell it like it is.

it's not like beto is saying these things as a way to attack others.
it's anger over what trump McConnell and others like that are doing.
what you posted was not even that that serious. why get upset over something like that.

(34,186 posts)A rose is a rose. Requiring them to be turned in the government under penalty of law is confiscation.
The use of the term buyback is to conflate it with voluntary buyback programs.
I'll let Beto's words speak for themselves: Beto O'Rourke: 'Hell Yes, We're Going To Take Your AR-15'
And yes, Beto did see an increase in polling. 2.1% to 3% temporarily.

(13,448 posts)Extreme problems sometimes require extreme solutions. Mandatory gun buy backs and confiscations are minor compared to another school or grocery store or church filled with corpses from the latest massacre. I sure hope the vast majority of DU recognizes Betos gun policies as the sensible policies that they are.

(34,186 posts)When machine guns were being used too much in criminal homicides we registered them and it worked. We didnt confiscate them.
Its indefensible to say that semi-auto rifles are somehow more dangerous than machine guns that we have to confiscate them.

(12,712 posts)It is time to get past the idea of putting so much emphasis on words being "good" and "bad", as per our childhood. Much of that is based on class issues and elitism from the past, along with a good dose or religious moralism about cursing.
That's mature to me and I think Beto is bold in making that point. We are all adults, I hope, and can make the distinction between words and actions and how much difference that alone can make.
My only caveat is, (concerning expletives) don't wear them out. We need them for the emphasis they provide.
