Bernie Sanders tells Sacramento rally he won't settle for defeating Donald Trump

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders campaigns at Cesar Chavez Park in Sacramento on Friday, August 22, 2019, as 4,000 supporters fill the park.

https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/election/presidential-election/article234294242.html

Vermont senator and 2020 presidential contender Bernie Sanders drew an overflow crowd to his downtown Sacramento rally on Thursday evening, part of a multi-day swing through California as he vies for the Democratic nomination to take on President Donald Trump next year.

“I’m here this evening to ask for your help to win the Democratic primary in California,” Sanders boomed to a fired up crowd filling Cesar Chavez Plaza — a diverse mix of young people, parents with children, men and women in business attire, and retirees in wheelchairs.

But Sanders said he was also asking for more from his area supporters.

“It’s not just good enough to defeat Trump, he said. “We have to take on Wall Street. We have to take on the insurance companies. We have to take on the drug companies. We have to take on the fossil fuel industry. We have to take on the prison-industrial complex. We have to take on the military-industrial complex. We have to take on the whole damn one percent!”

Sanders’ rally marked the first time one of the top 2020 presidential candidates has held a public event in Sacramento. California Sen. Kamala Harris spoke to California Labor Federation members in April.

3. I'm glad Bernie pointed out that the whole point of the election is to defeat the other guy,

but you have to run on more than that. Some people seem to forget that. Heck of a crowd there, I love watching Bernie in action. You're welcome Uncle Joe.

2. "We have to take on Wall Street"....

Is he going to divest himself of his Wall Street mutual funds? He has more than $1 million invested in those funds. That would set a great example for everyone to follow.

6. No one has to divest their portfolio to take on Wall Street, everyone knows that.

Bernie Sanders has a way to raise $2 trillion -- tax Wall Street trading

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/bernie-sanders-taxing-wall-street-trades-will-raise-2-trillion/

. Sen. Bernie Sanders has introduced a bill that would tax trading of stocks, bonds and derivatives at rates ranging from 0.005% to 0.5%.
. A so-called financial transactions tax could raise between $776 billion and $2.4 trillion over 10 years, economists estimate.
. The U.S. hasn't taxed financial trades since the 1960s, although the 2008 financial crash brought the idea back in vogue.

Sen. Bernie Sanders has put "Medicare for All" and free public college at the center of his 2020 presidential campaign, and he knows just who should pay for the federal programs: Wall Street. The Vermont independent this week proposed a bill that would impose a small tax on trades of stocks, bonds and derivatives.

Under the measure, any stocks traded would be taxed at a rate of 0.5%, bonds at 0.1% and derivatives at 0.005%. So selling $1,000 of stock would incur a tax of $5. Such a tax could conservatively raise tens of billions of dollars per year, according to the Congressional Budget Office, which estimated the potential revenue at $776 billion over a decade. A 2017 study by the University of Massachusetts concluded a so-called financial transactions tax could yield a far bigger bounty -- $2.4 trillion over 10 years.

4. Well, the message is still on spot!

I wonder just how you do all that though..without meeting with an unfortunate accident? I mean, when you are in a position to actually accomplish it.

It is a huge pit of snakes that infests the entire system from top to bottom and there is a lot of power, money and influence at stake.

7. Tax Wall Street trading. Capital controls that would regulate the flows of financial assets

in and out of a country and enforcing limits, like transaction taxes, on the movement of financial and physical assets. That would be a good start.

The focus has to be on winning back the WH and the Senate. Without that all the stuff Bernie is shouting about is hopeless.

12. Why do you think we have about 21 candidates running? They all want to defeat Trump,

that's the whole point of the election. To defeat the other guy. And there's some who can actually do it. Those people aren't just running on just beating Trump, or past laurels, they are running and campaigning on issues and ideas.
