I haven't found anything else on it. In any case, a head wound needing seven stitches isn't anything to take lightly.

I hope his insistence on flying so shortly afterwards doesn't aggravate his condition. After a very close family member suffered a blood clot, I always worry about that when flying and having an injury of any kind. When I had to fly after injuring my ankle, I wore pressure socks to make sure I didn't get a blood clot, but I have no idea if that is a risk you can have after a head injury.

as time goes by - particularly since working in congress all this time doesn't exactly do much for your bones. If you work hard manual labor you get strong bones but really bad arthritis. Less hard work means weaker bones but a little less arthritis, usually.

A head injury is nothing to trifle with, but he got medical attention. If it was me, I would have insisted on going to the ER rather than a walk-in clinic - head injuries bleed so much they seem worse than they usually are. I'm pretty cautious about injuries though, especially after I dismissed my ankle injury as less serious than what it really was, and ended up on crutches for half a year, and needed surgery anyway.

I sympathize with Sen. Sanders and wish him fast healing. Getting old is really rough, things just don't work as well, like balance for one, and we just don't bounce back as quickly as when we were younger. I still can't drive or go outside when it's light and have to severely limit my screen time. Soon as my head is healed, I'm going to start taking a balance class at the Y so hopefully this old woman won't fall and hurt my head again.

I wish you all the healing and a speedy recovery. Even as a "spry" 43, I notice that things take longer to heal these days, and I don't have the same energy levels I used to have.

There was a drawing hung at one of my first work places, of two cows, one young and one old, going from Monday to Friday. The young cow starts out all disheveled on Monday, and gets perkier and perkier as Friday nears. The old cow starts out with lots of energy on Monday and gets tireder and tireder as Friday nears. The comment underneath the cows said something about how the young and old understand each other only on Wednesdays - because that's when our energy levels are the same!

Fri Mar 15, 2019, 02:25 PM

Could be an interaction. Could be that an adjustment is needed. When my Levothyroxine levels were off, I had multiple symptoms. Strength and coordination (fatigue, dizziness) were among them. I hope his regular geriatrician gets a chance to evaluate him soon (instead of just a walk-in clinic). You really shouldn't ignore episodes like this... it could be a symptom of something more serious.

I'm paying extra for the brand name... just because my body is SO sensitive to the "allowed" variances and tolerances between the different manufactures of Levothyroxine.

One manufacturer may be on the high side of the strength tolerance... and if I get accustomed to that, AND if CVS changes manufacturers to one that's on the LOW side of manufacturing tolerances, then it throws my body out of whack.

In my case, paying extra for Synthroid (tm) is annoying but worth it for the peace of mind and consistency. I like knowing that 50-?g is always the same.

Anyway... I wouldn't be surprised if it's his thyroid. In someone his age, it certainly a possibility.

Look at his posture... I think he's definitely suffering from osteoporosis. Even though it's more prevalent in women than in men, just by looking at his stooped position (very visible in how he sits, stands and walks) so I have no doubts that he suffers from it.

No shade... it is what it is... most people his age have SOME chronic health condition. It would be a miracle if he didn't.

I'm just saying that I think that EVERY candidate owes it to the voters to be perfectly honest and to come clean about their health problems so that we can make an informed decision... so that we can have all the FACTS.

The responsibilities of being the POTUS is a heavy burden that requires a lot of stamina. After today's fall, I just hope he's up to it.

No, Sanders is NOT too old to be president.
As uncomfortable as it appears to makes you, this is a legitimate discussion. People have the right to ask legitimate questions about his health. What's being described sounds a lot like it's possible that it could have been a syncope episode... one where he actually lost consciousness (or nearly lost consciousness) and then hit his head as a result.

Regardless, I find it interesting that there was no mention of a CT scan at the minimum to insure no internal bleeding or swelling, or other brain-damage occurred.

Was the clinic being negligent (possible malpractice?) or are we not being given the entire story of what happened?

Don't try and short-circuit the conversation by labeling it as "kneecapping". We deserve to know the truth with regard to whether any candidate is mentally and physically prepared for the rigors of the job of being the "Leader of the Free World".

http://tinyurl.com/y44ktoxx (short URL goes to heart.org)

What is cardiac syncope?

Cardiac or cardiovascular syncope is caused by various heart conditions, such as bradycardia, tachycardia or certain types of hypotension. It can increase the risk of sudden cardiac death.

People suspected of having cardiac syncope but who don't have serious medical conditions may be managed as outpatients. Further inpatient evaluation is needed if serious medical conditions are present. Conditions that may warrant hospital evaluation and treatment include various cardiac arrhythmic conditions, cardiac ischemia, severe aortic stenosis and pulmonary embolism. If evaluation suggests cardiac vascular abnormalities, an ambulatory external or implantable cardiac monitor may be required.

Heart failure, atrial fibrillation and other serious cardiac conditions can cause recurrent syncope in older adults, with a sharp increase after age 70.

What are the risk factors?

Syncope is common, but adults over age 80 are at greater risk of hospitalization and death.

Younger people without cardiac disease but who've experienced syncope while standing or have specific stress or situational triggers aren't as likely to experience cardiac syncope.

Cardiac syncope is a higher risk in: people older than age 60; men; presence of known heart disease; brief palpitations or sudden loss of consciousness; fainting during exertion; fainting while supine; an abnormal cardiac exam; or family history of inheritable conditions. Other existing conditions and medications used are particularly important in older patients.
